The Pineapple Retreat

The Pineapple Retreat is located in Michigan City's acclaimed Beachwalk Resort Community. Beachwalk hosts a variety of things to do. We have our own private Lake Kai, beach volleyball, heated swimming pool and kiddie pool, splash pad, playground for the kids, tennis courts, basketball court, putting green, and park. A brand new Beachwalk community center located on the shore of Lake Kai five houses from the Pineapple Retreat, we have a Cafe where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner and an ice cream parlor if you don't feel like cooking in our gourmet kitchen. Beachwalk offers concerts in the summer along with craft shows on the weekends.

The Pineapple Retreat has a master bedroom, king-size bed, adjoining bath, and private balcony. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed with adjoining bath. The third bedroom has two sets of bunk beds, and the fourth bedroom has bunk beds with a full bottom and twin top. The first floor has a living room with a massive sectional and full size futon, dining room seating for four, island seating for five, kitchen table seating for six, and table on screened-in porch which seats four. We have provided for all your needs by including a hair dryer in each bathroom, a high chair, a stroller, picnic basket, army beach blanket, and beach chairs.

You can walk to Lake Michigan and Sheridan Beach, just one half block away from the Pineapple. On Sheridan Beach you can enjoy swimming, windsurfing, jet-skiing, sailing, fishing, and watching the sunset over the Chicago Skyline. Other attractions in the Michigan City area include Washington Park, a 90-acre public park for walks and family gatherings, Washington Park Zoo and Friendship Botanical Gardens, both within five minutes of Beachwalk.

There is the Barker Mansion to visit, the Old Lighhouse Museum, Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, The Blue Chip Casino, and the Lighthouse Outlet Mall, all within a short drive or 10 minute bike ride of Beachwalk. Fine dining and family dining can be found in Michigan City as well as the surrounding areas. Nearby Equestrian Facility - Farmer's Market - Saturdays mornings May through September at Eighth & Washington -

We are just 22 miles from the Notre Dame Football Games in South Bend, Indiana and 68 miles from Chicago. Our home is great for family vacations, family reunions, or business meetings.

Just outside of Michigan City is the Indiana Dunes National Lake Shore and State Park, which has 8,500 acres of bogs, coastlines, forests, and Mount Baldy. Activities at the State Park include hiking, biking, picnicking, and walking. The Pineapple Retreat provides putters and golf balls, basketball, tennis rackets and tennis balls, and volleyballs. No Pets allowed and No Smoking. Available Year Round.

We had 8 people for a girls’ weekend. This place was ideal. Plenty of space, plenty of beds, great location. The beach chairs/towels were great. Easy walk to the beach or pool. We fit 3 vehicles in the back parking area. We wanted to use the fire pit but never got around to it. We spent most of our time just gabbing on the screened-in porch. We’re already talking about coming back next year.

Best Weekend Ever!

Got some of my best pals together for a long weekend and we had the BEST time at the Pineapple Retreat. The house was the cutest place ever and we absolutely loved the amenities. Our host responded to questions super quickly, and everything was just lovely. Hands down one of the best weekends of my life!

Very special place. Great location. Caring owners. Many clocks and lightbulbs not working. Maybe a message to be the light and live beyond time? Great energy. Dishes, etc were all labeled to be a certain number in a certain place, but it didn’t compute. All the same, the cluttered cabinets and mislabeled stuff added to the charm of the experience. Practice non-judgment. Owners had soap, toilet paper, garbage sacks, Kleenex and paper towels—all of which we brought with us because most rentals don’t give such gracious hospitality. Thankful. We loved the front porch, especially the swing. Such a gift and a grace to feel welcome in every moment. Pineapple motif everywhere. A reminder that we are called to live with kindness and generosity.

Very cute house in a cute neighborhood

The property manager was always available to answer any questions. The place was in neat order and located in a cute enclave. I am giving four stars to the accuracy of the listing because the enclave’s beach was not Lake Michigan’s but their own lake which sufficed for us but was not expected.

Quite a retreat, indeed!

Spacious rental with everything you could possibly need. The home is equipped with everything you could want in the kitchen (all the standard pots/pans/utensils plus spices, condiments, foil wrap, etc and even a griddle for making pancakes). They also provide linens, toilet paper and paper towels, hand soap, and laundry detergent. Best of all was the beach chairs, pool rings for the kids to dive after, sand buckets and shovels for the beach, and 2 adult bicycles, a child bicycle and a couple scooters! The location was perfect - a short walk to the beach and the only road you have to cross has stop signs where the crosswalk is at. Or, walk less than 10 houses in the other direction and you're at the resort's pool with splash pad, the cafe with coffee, a few food options, and ice cream, as well as billiards table on the second floor and ping pong on the first floor. Close enough that the kids didn't complain about the walk and far enough that we didn't hear the noises right outside our window. I do think it's important to note that you have to purchase a $5 parking pass per vehicle and to use the amenities within the resort, each person needs to wear a $15 wristband (that you keep on for you entire stay). If those extra fees were mentioned in the listing, I didn't make note of it so it was a surprise to me; however, I felt it was well worth it for those perks. Great stay overall and can't wait to come back!

Pineapple Retreat Getaway

We absolutely loved the Pineapple Retreat!!! It was perfect for our family of 10. A little piece of heaven on earth. Plan to return next summer🙂 Excellent location for both the beach and pool. Screened in back porch was a favorite as well as the front porch and swing.

Weekend trip for family of 10

This rental was a great option for us. Perfect location to access the beach, and 50 feet or so from the community pool, coffee shop, tennis courts and bball court. We definitely would choose to stay at this property again and it’s larger in person than the pictures reflect. Great experience!

A Shame this Beauty is being let go

Great location, great property, great immunites, HOWEVER, needs one heck of a cleaning up. Great property, but not great for families with infants. My daughter swept the entire first floor the first afternoon, my son in law mopped the entire first floor the next morning. After this cleaning the entire perimeter of this property, both downstairs tile and upstairs carpet, still has a 1/4 line of crude along and on the baseboard (photos available). We have stayed in a Beachwalk property last year and it was great too, but without cleanliness issues. Don't count this one out, the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms were clean and the location and property is great, but I can't recommend if infants are along.

Great experience at the Pineapple Retreat

The Pineapple Retreat was a great rental for our family's stay! The owners were very response to any questions or communication I had. The listing was very accurate. It was very nice to use the provided basic strollers and wagons as well as toys, chairs and blankets to take to the beach, as we didn't have to get ours sandy. There were plenty of towels, dishware, etc. for our group and we stayed comfortably in the home. The walks to the beach and also the pool were very reasonable, and we loved the location. I would recommend this property to others.

Another awesome vacation

My family and I had another great vacation at the Pineapple Retreat! We couldn't believe it had already been 5 years since we had been there before and we don't know why we waited so long. The house is SO nice. They provide everything you might need including a wagon, stroller, booster seat, beach bag, beach blanket, movies, you name it! We enjoyed the pool a lot! The kiddie pool was great for my toddler. The beach is a 5 minute walk away. And we also enjoyed the Washington Park Zoo that is a 3 minute drive, if that. Thank you, again!

Girls Getaway

We had a girls weekend at the Pineapple Retreat and had the best time. The house is in a perfect location and so close to the beach. The community is absolutely adorable as well. We did the winery tours and were in great location to that. There was a small hiccup in checking in, but the owners were very accommodating and sincere. The owners respond quickly and will help with any recommendations. Even though we did a girls weekend, this house is perfect for families as well. The house is set up in a great way with plenty of beds to sleep. Loved the back patio area and grill! All the linens and kitchen utensils are provided. They have many spices and condiments available for use. I would recommend this to any of my friends and family. Great location, great house, great owners. Thank you for everything!
