About mike lahey
I am originally from California and have been coming to this area since 1980. I was brought up here by a friend and decided that I wanted to spend time in this area. Now I live here most of the time. I enjoy playing music (guitar and harmonica), singing, painting, camping, fishing, kayaking, golfing hiking, and more :)
mike lahey purchased this Cabin in 1980
Why mike lahey chose Marion
Quiet and Serene with a special feel.
What makes this Cabin unique
The feeling people get when I am here is unique to any place else. It is possible to kayak, bike, hike, chop wood, build fires, cook on a wood stove or just sit in the outdoor jacuzzi while barbcuing on the deck while listening to music. Recommended: a glass of wine on the lower deck at dusk with the one you love.

Awesome cabin on Little Bitterroot Lake
We had a great time at this cabin!! The property was in a great location. The property manager was very receptive and helpful!! We rented kayaks from him and had soo much fun on the lake with them. The beds were comfy and everything was in great working condition! The hot tub on the deck was a great added bonus! The views from the cabin and the hot tub were great and we wished we could have stayed longer!! We will definitely be back again soon!! Thank you!!
The cabin is rustic and nicely set on Lake Bitterroot, scenic ,quiet and good sized. However the cleanliness and some of the functionality was lacking. Upon arrival we had to mop the floors 3 times to get rid of hair and filth, clean all table tops, wash most of dishes, and clean old food remnants out of sink drain. The hot tub never got warm, the bath tub did not drain (water over feet in 2 minutes), sliding door did not work and two electrical problems.
That said it was a good visit to the Whitefish / Glacier Park area
First of all, I am sorry that the guests had issues with cleanliness.
I ask all guests to contact me if there is any problem or question, and they never did. When I asked them the next day, they said everything was fine, so I am surprised by the response.
There is iron in the water and although the filter removes 95%, sometimes there is a residue.
Firstly, They said they mopped the floors three times in the bathroom. My house cleaner said she mopped the floor and scrubbed the toilet, sink, and tub. Some of the linoleum in the bathroom has been scratched over the years and appears to be dirty, but is not.
Second. My housekeeper washed all of the glasses and dishes. I looked at the refrigerator, dishes and glasses and looked fine. There is hard water there which can make them look unclean.
1. The tub was draining slowly and has been fixed.
2. A kitchen light switch was broken and has been fixed.
3. I told them the hot tub takes a few hours to heat up and had just been filled. They turned it off before it heated. It is working perfectly.
Great lake cabin to stay for a family vacation!
This place is roomy, comfortable, and met all our needs just fine. The owner is very helpful and friendly, and stayed in touch to be sure everything went well. A very smooth stay in all regards. Next time we need this kind of place near Kalispell, we hope to go back there. It was definitely a home away from home. We would highly recommend.
classic romantic cabin in the woods
What a great little cabin in the woods. Took the kayaks over to the island and did some serious exploring. Sunsets are off the charts and the solitude of the mornings is what dreams are made of. Just a beautiful little cabin in the woods. Beds are clean and soft and Mike left plenty of goodies to munch on. I would recommend this cabin to anyone who really wants to relax and leave the stress behind, just a fantastic, rustic getaway.
Greg and Tena. It was nice to meet you both. We have upgraded since your stay and we will see you next year. I am glad that you were able to tap into the 'magic' here. Mike
Fantastic, charming, relaxing! Loved every minute spent at this cabin!
We can't say enough good things about our stay at Mike's cabin in Marion. Not only is he a delightful host, he offered some great tips on fishing spots! The location is convenient to so many quaint towns and amazing adventures. We were here for our annual girls trip and so enjoyed kayaking around the lake, grilling up a great meal, and just sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and tall tales of each days activities. We were so enamoured by this space that we cancelled the last leg of our trip to just stay and take in all the peacefulness this place brings. If you're looking for fancy, you may be disappointed... but if you're looking for simplicity and a good natural recharge, you've found it. The cabin was clean with everything we needed for cooking. I thoroughly enjoyed cooking on the old stove. Some of the "dirt" here can't be scrubbed off because it's part of the history of each piece of this delightful place. You can feel the good times that have been had here over the years. Sleep with the windows open! Absolutely perfect stay, thanks to Mike (he even left fresh coffee which I forgot to pick up). Watching the Eagles fly and dive around the lake was an awe inspiring experience. Bring a book, a good bottle of wine, and a fishing pole... you won't be disappointed. I am already making plans to bring the family back next summer! Thank you so much Mike for sharing your lake cabin with us!!
My pleasure to have you here, and happy that you two were able to tap into the 'natural magic of the setting'. The cabin will be waiting for you next year.
So unsuitable as a rental.
The odor of the owner was pervasive in the cabin. So obvious it was a full time home. Old food everywhere, and left open. Coffeemaker was filthy. Fridge was dirty. Deck unsafe. Very nice area, just a very unacceptable cabin. I expect cleanliness, especially where kitchen and food is concerned. I pulled a glass for some water, it wasn't washed! It felt like what it was-staying in an elderly bachelor's personal home. We stayed one night due to exhaustion, but left before coffee the next morning. Paid in full for 3 nights. Called Home Away, they blew us off and were rude as could be. Avoid this rental unless and until it is kept up as a rental.
We are dumbfounded by this response, but still addressing the issues raised. I waited till 9PM to check them in and they seemed very tired. After showing them the rooms, deck, kitchen and bathroom, they seemed happy and content. I explained that there was some food and a few condiments left for our guests in the refrigerator and that I could remove. (Sometimes I offer to leave fresh food so the guests don't have to go shopping after a long trip). They seemed fine with using it. Before I left, I told them to call me if there were any problems of any kind. They never did or complained. Four days later I saw this review. Since reading this review, I have asked previous and subsequent renters about bad odors, unclean conditions or any of these issues so that I could fix them. No one said they experienced these odors or unclean conditions. They were happy with the extra towels, fabric softener bedding, and extra condiments.(The subsequent renters even asked for a couple extra days). These two sisters were not getting along and having a bad day. Sorry they didn't have a good experience in a special place and I refunded part of their money.
The cabin is located on Little Bitteroot Lake, near Marion Montana. The lake offeres great swimming, fishing, water sports. Wildlife abounds in the area, including deer, elk, moose, otter, and many species of fish in the lake.
