RESCHEDULING IS AVAILABLE AS CALENDAR DICTATES. Catfish Cottage is a waterfront vacation rental which provides beautiful mountain views depicting all seasons! A private dock, for use by renters only, is a place where you can either dock your personal watercraft, use the canoe or fishing kayak provided, or a pontoon can be rented from nearby Fish Springs Marina or Lake Shore Marina. The Watauga River flows into Lake Watauga just a few hundred yards from Catfish Cottage which enables adventurers to kayak or canoe up the river for quite a distance. As of 6/2/17 the lake is at at it's summer level which allows canoers/kayakers to go completely up the Watauga River to the rapids! The water level is controlled by the TVA (Tennessee Valley Auhority). The depth around our dock is about 15' at full pool. Fishing is great in Lake Watauga, and a license, if needed, is obtainable less than two miles away at Dry Run Grocery and Diner. They are also the closest for getting those "forgot to get" items. Ready for another adventure? Walk, hike, bike or drive just a little over a mile away to the Lake Watauga Winery which is in an old restored schoolhouse and hear Linda tell the story of all the ghosts they have encountered since they bought the property! Mountain City is only 16 miles from Catfish Cottage. It's an easy route to two major grocery stores. From Mountain City, it's another 17 miles to the Virginia Creeper Trail in Damascus, VA traveling on Hwy. 91 or in the opposite direction, you can travel to Boone or Blowing Rock, NC on Hwy. 421 from Mtn. City. Or, leaving the cottage and going through Prioneer Landing to Hwy. 321, it's 16 miles to the outskirts of Boone and then on to Linville, Blowing Rock, etc. The Bristol Race Track is about 40 miles from the cottage. Lots to do from this location. Or, simply stay at the cottage and relax. This is a NON-SMOKING vacation rental. WIFI is available as well as a phone which is through the internet (VOP). DISH TV is in the cottage as well as several DVD's. HORSEBACK RIDING on nearby Roan Mountain - see pictures. BIKE RIDING either in nearby Hampton TN or the world-known VIRGINIA CREEPER TRAIL! What adventures there are to be had!

About Patricia or George Heinemann

We are an older couple who fell in love with the location of

Catfish Cottage. We kept the name that was on the cottage, but almost everything else has been updated (totally inside).

Patricia or George Heinemann purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Patricia or George Heinemann chose Butler

Location, location, location

What makes this cottage unique

It is at the intersection of the Watauga River which flows from Boone, NC and the lake. In the winter, out front of the cottage is a natural spring which when the lake is iced over, there is a circle of unfrozen water where the spring is. Kayaking and/or canoeing up the river is an adventure or just

going for an evening canoe ride out in the lake. Pontoon, kayak and jet ski rentals are available from either Fish Spring Marina or Lake Shore Marina in Butler, TN

Sweet Cottage With Lake View

  • 5 of 5

Owners very helpful and friendly. Provided plenty of brochures and materials for local activities, restaurants and businesses. And, info on how to use wi-fi, tv, electronics and appliances. Helped us coordinate where to launch our small jon boat and where to park boat trailer. Cottage interior and exterior have all new finishes and are beautiful. Everything neat and tidy. House size was perfect for my husband and I, and our small dog. Lovely view of Watauga Lake!

Adorable cabin on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location and adorable cabin. There is a bald eagle who lives in the area and he came out to see us. We did not catch any fish but it was mid March and a little cold. This was a wonderful experience.

Amazing Cozy Spot Water Front!!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is amazing my wife and I are trying to figure out when we can go back again! The fenced deck made it great for our fur babys and doubles the size of the small by quite adequate cabin. I can't recommend this place enough. It is very well done on the inside and leaves you wanting nothing more. Thank You Pat for all your help! We had a wonderful stay and can't wait to do it again! Pat was amazing! She reached out to me a few days before the trip to provide some information about things to do in the are, check in times and everything. She also provided a very detailed email with useful information. The cabin is beautiful, a very relaxing place! We enjoyed our stay there and will definitely come back

Owner's Response: Thank you for the compliment. We try to make sure our guests are informed enough about the cottage before they arrive, so they can spend relaxing time there and not have to "run out" for anything. Communicating with this guest was a pleasure, and I wish all would let us be of as much help as possible to make their visit more enjoyable.
