Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

Enjoyed tea by the cozy fireplace; lounged on the comfortable couches reading...we didn't want to leave. Daniel provided everything we could need for our short stay. A gorgeous, u pique space unlike anything I have ever stayed in before. A lovingly restored family chapel that has been renovated into a comfortable, airy space for living and sleeping. It was quiet though is really close to downtown Boone. The pictures don’t do it justice.

The Thomas Chapel was an absolutely amazing experience! A sanctuary amidst a snow storm, it was warm and cozy, making for a perfect trip. Daniel was an absolute joy to work with and made sure we were all good to go. I am so grateful for him extending the stay for us when we weren’t sure we could leave with the snow and ice on the roads. Would wholeheartedly, enthusiastically recommend this wonderful space to all travelers!
