ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY AT HUNTER RIVER RETREAT.

If your looking to leave the city behind and unwind on the deck of your own private rustic cottage with stunning views, to sit back and sip a glass of fine Hunter Valley wine and do nothing but soak up the peace and serenity. Then a visit to Hunter River Retreat is a must!

Perhaps a picnic on the mountain with a loved one, bush walking on our many trails, spotting local wildlife including our kangaroos and wallabies or feeding our farm animals interest you, then picturesque Hunter River Retreat is for you.

Hunter River Retreat is situated on 110 acres and approx. 2 hrs from Sydney, 15 minutes from Maitland, with boutique wineries close by and the main Hunter Valley wineries approx. 30 minutes away. Full Day Bus Winery Tours can also be organized that pick up from The Retreat - you can taste and not worry about driving.

Bluegum Cottage is a private fully self-contained cottage with Jacuzzi spa on the deck. It has two bedrooms, with a queen in each bedroom and a set of bunk beds (2 singles)in the second bedroom which offers splendid views of the valley and Hunter River.

Host was excellent and easy to communicate with. Cottage is quaint and beautiful. We loved to relax in the spa watching the sun go down. Went for a walk to see the friendly little horse which came up to us for a pat. There were a couple of friendly alpacas as well. So much fun.

Lovely cottage

The cottage itself was very comfortable and clean, fully equipped with everything, all was thought of for an amazing stay. Surroundings were awesome, very spacious for our cavoodle, kids loved the experience including the horses and the donkeys that were so friendly. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

Australian fishing tournament stay

We stayed in bluegum cottage while fishing a tournament apart of the national series We had 2 16ft + boats and were catered for beyond expectations We were offered access to power from their own workshop to charge batteries as well as our last night were driven into the local pub for free Will be back if we ever go to that venue to fish again!!!

Wonderful spot to relax

We stayed at Bluegum Cottage for 4 nights. Lovely deck with a spa, surrounded by nature. Very clean and spacious. The AC was much appreciated Ona very hot day! We had a small dog and it was great to be able to bring him. The yard is small but enclosed. There are a number of bush tracks to explore. Clear and quick communication with hosts. We had to postpone our booking twice because of lockdowns and Eloise was very kind and accommodating. Will definitely be back!

Quite and secluded cottage

We liked the seclusion of Bluegum Cottage. Lots of wildlife and a lovely view from the deck. Furnishings were comfortable and all the appliances worked perfectly. We'd like to see a screen door added to the entranceway to allow for good air flow. It took a bit of getting used to to only drink bottled water, but we got by. We did all of our own cooking in the well appointed kitchen. We rate this property to be the best we have found within a couple of hours from Newcastle for our two cavoodles, completely safe and secure. Would recommend this location for a quiet getaway. This was out first stay but we will be returning.

Ahhhh The Serenity

This gorgeous rustic cabin was just perfect for our 3 night stay. The view and the bird noises were so relaxing. It was so much fun feeding the horse and donkeys carrot and apple. So funny they would make a beeline for the cabin as soon as they saw someone there. So peaceful and quiet. Eloise was so friendly and helpful. We highly recommend and will return if ever we are in the Hunter Valley again.

Fantastic honeymoon

We stayed for 3 nights in the Bluegum cottage with our small dog. The place was fantastic as it has everything we needed. We loved the walks and all the animals on the farm and the spa in our cottage was just perfect after a day out Exploring.

A Lovely Rustic Secluded Getaway

This is a small but well appointed cabin that feels very private. The horse greeted us on our first morning, super friendly and very gentle. Even the Highland cattle came to say a quick and friendly hello. Eloise was brilliant. She really went out of her way to help. Everything was as described. The property was spotless. The bed was very comfortable. If you’re looking for a secluded getaway, this is a good one. Thanks Eloise!
