Isla Retreats was envisioned to provide what we value in an adults-only hotel: tranquility, and a unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. At Isla Retreats, our guests are sheltered and pampered in order to relax, savor the lovely island, and recharge. Our common area has been tailored to provide a peaceful ambiance featuring tropical gardens, a heated, salt-water swimming pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, and a mayan-inspired palapa. By keeping the grounds as green as possible and meticulously selecting local tropical plants and coconut palms, we believe we ensured a harmonious merge with nature, rather than displacing it.

On-site parking is available for golf carts next to the security guard’s office. The island’s main grocery store, Chedruai - where you can find imported food items, a bakery, and a nice selection of wines in and liquors - is a mere few blocks away. Directly across the street from the property is a “tiendita” corner store that offers beer, soft drinks, ice, eggs, and many other basic groceries.

There are 6 villas at Isla Retreats. All are upscale, tastefully decorated, and fully furnished with everything you will need for your stay. All villas have smart TVs and WiFi Internet. We provide beach towels and bath towels, high quality linens, a hair dryer, and iron/ironing board for your use. There is an in-room safe to store your valuables and passports. Housekeeping (daily or as requested) is available at no extra charge (tips are appreciated!). There is on-site staff available to accommodate our guests in setting up golf cart rentals and other activities.

Villa #1 is a one bedroom unit on the ground floor with a king size bed, one bathroom, a living room, dining area and a full kitchen. The kitchen includes a full size refrigerator, microwave, 4-burner cooktop and oven, blender, coffeepot, toaster - everything you need to make this your home away from home experience. There is air conditioning in each room, all modern stainless steel appliances, marble counter tops and marble floors, and smart TVs.

Villa #1 can be rented along with Villa #2 as a two bedroom unit or individually. Villa #2 is a one bedroom unit with a king size bed and a bathroom that has a lock-out door to Villa #1. There is also a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. Please see property # 932788 for more information about Villa #2.

Isla Retreats is located five minutes from El Centro and Playa Norte, past the airport and just past the college, Bachilleros. It is within easy biking distance to the main beach, Playa Norte, as well as to all the attractions in town. You can take a low cost cab ride, or you can rent a golf cart or a scooter to explore the town, where the banks, ATM’s, shopping, bars, restaurants and live music are located. Transportation is not needed here, but is recommended if you wish to explore the extended area on your own. If you want to stay in the neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of town, Isla Retreats is located within walking distance to many great restaurants: Rosa Sirena, Mango Cafe, Aurora, Caribbean Brisas, Isla Village, Isla Brewery (local craft beer) Green Verde, Kash Keken Chuc, just to name a few. It is also located three blocks from the main grocery store on the island, Chedraui.

Our goal is to create a high-scale experience within the a local neighborhood - your perfect island retreat. With its breathtaking heated pool, tropically landscaped gardens, charming and luxurious villas, Isla Retreats offers a wonderful place for people to escape to to enjoy a restful vacation. Relax under our palapa or poolside beach chairs, just steps away from the rocky shore of the Caribbean and the sound of the breaking waves.

30 Year Anniversary Stay

One of the most beautiful properties you will find. The grounds are lush and well lit and manicured. The units are custom built and very nicely constructed. The salt water pool was perfect and very nice with outdoor shower and bathroom steps away from the water. Golf cart parking was a breeze and outdoor palapa with bar and fridge were a nice touch.

Paradise…Would not stay anywhere else.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by this villa. Everything was new and immaculate! The villa was very spacious and had every accommodation one would want. The housekeeping service was top-notch. Our host, Katy, was very kind and friendly. She lined up a golf cart for us and gave recommendations on activities and restaurants. This is a very special property, centrally located and just beautiful.

We stayed for 7 days. Absolutely wonderful!!! Highly recommend beautiful rooms, spacious villa.. SPOTLESS! I can’t say enough! So friendly and helpful staff. Nice peaceful property away from the chaos

The property was clean and the host Katy was communicative with any question , her Dad Dave was super nice and recommended a nice restaurant for us to try. The Villa #3 was very clean and spacious it was only my husband and I but it has an adjoining room if needed. The cleaning staff were also friendly and they were there if needed during business hours. I booked this place last minute and I would recommend! Also, they can arrange a golf cart to the property just be sure to wait at the Palapa for it at the set time. Everything here was ez breezy. Pros - In the middle of island , easy to get around with a golfcart - convenience store nearby - felt safe as security was on property - friendly hosts Cons - cats on the property one snuck in when I opened my door and I am not an animal lover (this would not prevent me from coming back not a huge deal)

Exactly What I Was Looking For

This was my first stay in a VRBO and I have to say that I am really impressed. Normally I am a resort person - an all-inclusive resort person. For this trip, my wife and I were looking for a more affordable, long-ish term place to stay in a less touristy area. We booked just a few days in advance and in hindsight, I am amazed that this property was available. First, the communication with and from Katy, the host, was exceptional. We had no issues at all in booking, and Katy was even kind enough to reserve a golf cart for us and have it waiting at the property upon our arrival. When we did have an issue with one of the air conditioners losing its cool, I emailed Katy and she had a maintenance person on it within 5-10 minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a full-time maintenance person on-site every day and a cleaning staff of two or three that kept the rooms, grounds, and pool all in a fantastic state of cleanliness. The room we had (#1) was exactly as-pictured with a perfectly sized, appointed, and cooled bedroom on one end, a large bath with two sinks in the center, then an ample living room, a dinette, and a complete kitchen. The mattress was comfortable and the bedding was really just right. Hot water was plentiful with small hot water tanks in the bath and kitchen. We never ran out of hot water. The kitchen was fully stocked with nice glassware, plates, and flatware. We used the kitchen just a few times in our two weeks there since the food scene on Isla is just crazy-good. This brings us to the location. With the centralized location on the island, it takes 5-7 minutes to get to either end. No beach, no problem. There are plenty of easy-access beach clubs on the island. Our intent was to spend time relaxing and decompressing from a series of stressful months at home. This was the perfect place for us.

It was a wonderful and relaxing stay. Everyone we encountered at the property were pleasant and spoke. The unit was well stocked and cleaned to perfection. I own a cleaning service, so cleanliness is a huge thing for us. The bed was comfortable and soft enough to keepe from tossing and turning. The use of Netflix was a plus. Location was perfect. The biggest plus was ease of check-in and helpful information provided before arrival and during check-in. I loved the information book on the coffee table as well. I will say this though, there are cats on the property that made it difficult to eat on the patio, so we stuck to sipping wine. Also, the internet was not the best on any device we used. However, it worked well on the TV's. If I had to recommend a place on the island this would be it. The ambiance and tropical feel made it an oasis in and of it self. A great find all around. Thanks for having us!

Ok first off... the Pool and grounds are IMMACULATE. You have never seen a more well maintained VRBO. There are very friendly people there working constantly. The pool is warm and inviting during the day and at night. A wonderful, private oasis. THE SUITE OMG... We stayed in #1 and it was huge, clean and gorgeous. We would go out for breakfast and wed come back to a sexy, fresh bed and all new towels beautifully wrapped up. After a day at the beach, there is nothing better than showering and stepping into a clean bed with no sand in it. The location is Mid-Island. Close to the hustle and bustle, but far enough that you can relax and sleep at night. We rented a moped and loved exploring the island. Everyone raves about Mangos.. but we liked Green Verde, Aroma and Pizza mikes much more. You should absolutely stay here when in Isla. Highly recommend. We will be back. Thank you for the trip Katy!

My husband and I have stayed here twice. Our most recent trip was to celebrate my birthday. Katy and her dad are wonderful owners and incredible hosts. The resort is a hidden gem on the island. The landscaping is beautiful, the pool is wonderful, the villas are extremely nice and the size of the resort is perfect! We love Isla Retreats and have found our home away from home! I highly recommend this property if you want to stay at a 5 star!

The units are impeccably finished and maintained. When we arrived, there was still some ongoing construction from everything being newly redone. The design is clever in that you can rent single portions of or conjoined suites. The pool is heavenly - heated and with a cool waterfall feature. Well appointed with bathrooms, a tiki bar, pool toys, etc. A really spectacular place.

This property is impeccably maintained, the cleaning staff, the attention to detail in the rooms, the pool is awesome, clean, warm. The property is very pretty. The location while not on the water directly is very convenient to all areas of the island. We fell in love with the neighborhood which has many good restaurants and local street food. No negatives really except that I shared villa one and two with my friends and it is a little shaded in for a winter visit, great for sleeping and for staying cool. If I come again in the winter I will stay in Villa 5 or 6 because the light is better. The nice thing about the main floor is you are only a step to the pool. I felt very safe without having to be behind walls and the taxis are going past the entry day and night if you need to get somewhere. If you are at all OCD and need spotless detailed well attended and appointed property this is your place. Super clean and well staffed with very friendly people.

We loved everything about this place! We stayed here for 10 days and really enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are immaculate, love the decor and furnishings. It's like a little oasis. We had a lot of time to tour the island and check out other places and we didn't find anything that we felt was nearly as nice as Isla Retreats. It was a great stay and we would highly recommend it!

If you want to stay at the best place on Isla de Mujeres, stay here. Hands down the best spot on the island. It's recently built, clean and stunning. It's located outside of the tourist zone, but only a quick golf cart ride to anywhere on the island. The pool was my favorite part, but the rentals are immaculate and have everything you could want. No question about it. If you are planning a trip to Isla, stay here.

This place is amazing! If you have a large family or are traveling with a group, this is the place to stay. Everything is 1st class from the garden, pool, bar to the beds! OASIS IN ISLA

This place is paradise. Owners made us feel very welcome from the minute we started the booking process. Close to town , the large grocery store , the beach and much more. Totally comfortable and lots of room. Pool area is just great and there is rooftop seating for star gazing or looking at the coastline of Cancun. Owners couldn't be more familiar with the island. Highly recommend and can't wait to return.

Isla Retreats is owned and operated by father and daughter team, Dave and Katy Hochmayr. We began coming to Isla Mujeres in 1989 and it soon became our second home. We love the unique family and cultural ambiance on the island that creates a very comfortable and relaxing place to live and vacation.

We purchased the property where Isla Retreats is located as an empty lot in 2006 and began building in February of 2016. We are very excited to have finally finished the project in May of 2017. The design and vision of Isla Retreats came from Dave - he creatively thought of the most unique details that make this property so exceptional.

Our main goal for Isla Retreats is to provide an adults only, tranquil and unique Caribbean-Mexican experience. Guests can get away from the hustle-bustle of downtown and everyday life to relax and savor the lovely island. We designed the common area to create a peaceful ambience featuring a salt-water pool with waterfalls, beach chairs and umbrellas, tropical gardens and an exquisite palapa. We wanted to keep as much green-space as possible, so we designed the property with many tropical plants and coconut trees. There are many extraordinary hand-carved marble and onyx sculptures throughout the property as well.

We enjoy working with our guests directly so that they can have the best vacation possible, as we know how special and memorable vacations are. We look forward to sharing Isla Retreats with many guests in the years to come.
