About Bonnie Swanson
Ken , our sons, and I moved from Tampa, Florida, to Appomattox, looking for a quieter community to raise our sons and to try our hand at farming. Traditional farming was out because we only had 10 acres, so we looked into alternative or niche farming. We still continue in our careers as a teacher and a nurse practitioner while managing the lavender farm.
Bonnie Swanson purchased this Cottage in 1999
Why Bonnie Swanson chose Falling River
Evergreen Lavender Farm is a family owned business located in the rural community of Evergreen in Appomattox County, Virginia. In 2009, the farm began to transition from cut flower production to field grown lavender. The lavender harvested is used for our handmade sachets, eye pillows, lotions, and soaps.
What makes this Cottage unique
Lavender is not our only horticultural component, for there are several flower gardens to see. The farm offers scheduled workshops for successful planting of lavender, creating a lavender wreath, and making your own products. We have many plans and are hopeful that visitors will discover Evergreen Lavender Farm as a relaxing, beautiful, and educational experience.

The Cottage is really nice and roomy.
Everything was neat and clean in the living areas - looked exactly like the pictures, very spacious.
Bonnie is a great hosted
My husband and I celebrated our 31st Anniversary with a trip to Appomattox, VA. Our stay at Evergreen was wonderful. The house is very cozy and clean. It has all the amenities that you need for a nice get-away. It is convenient to all the attractions in the area. Bonnie is wonderful to work with and a joy to meet. I would recommend Evergreen to anyone as a great place to stay!!!
Cozy, comfortable, relaxing. Hosts were friendly and welcoming. Good location for sightseeing in Appomattox and Lynchburg. Enjoyed our week immensely. Space is larger then it appears.
Had a wonderful time
The cottage was located in a nice location and Bonnie was very nice. Enjoyed walking around the lavander and was able to entertain family. Would definitely recommend staying here.
Everything a VRBO experience should be!
Wow, impossible to summarize my impression of the property. A myriad of things to see....Lavender fields, of course, but a gift shop in an old trolley! A stage for performances. Lots of plants, everywhere! Funky, fun and Bonnie is a delight! We made lavender wreaths (slight extra charge)!
Civil War history surrounds The Cottage at Evergreen Lavender Farm. The American Civil War Museum and Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are within 15 minutes of the cottage. In Appomattox, Baine's Books and Coffee offers delicious coffee drinks, books, music, and more. There are several vintage and antique shops in the town. The town offers several restaurants to choose from and there is live theater with The Court House Theater and Wolfbane Productions. Going west a half an hour is the city of Lynchburg with plenty of restaurants, movies, shopping, and entertainment. Going east for 25 minutes is Farmville which has Longwood University, Green Front Furniture and High Bridge Trail and painting and clay workshops, dining, and music. Guests can stay on the farm and be a part of our daily operations, especially during the lavender season from mid-May into July. Our annual lavender festival is the third Saturday in June with music, food, wine, and lavender. Check out www.evergreenlavender.com for more information or on facebook.
