Located in central Lakeland the house is close to all amenities, grocery stores, restaurants, cinemas and local sites. The house is also close to the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the world, Florida Southern College. The house is also only a 30 minute drive to LEGOland and a 40 minute to DISNEY. The beaches are approximately 1hours drive away to either the gulf or atlantic coasts. Being fully furnished and equipped with all linens, towels, pot and pans, there is nothing you need to bring. Superfast wifi is available and there is also a TV and cd player. Both bedrooms have queen size beds and the bathrooms have sunken roman baths and step down showers. The kitchen has cooktop, wall oven, microwave and dishwasher. A washer dryer is also available.
The house was designed by Mark Hampton and built in 1957. Hampton was Paul Rudolphs first employee and is part of the Sarasota School or Architecture. The house also features in my latest book 'Living Retro' published by RylandPeters.

Really cool house, but...
Terrific mid-century mod home, however, it’s in need of a few updates (such as modern mattresses and a TV from the current decade) and maintenance. Pool was full of leaves, fridge was out, paint peeling in the bathroom, lawn needed mowing. A nice place to stay, but needs a little work to bring it up to par.
Thanks for review. Great you enjoyed your stay.
Very much appreciate your comments and all will be attended to appropriately.
The pool is cleaned twice a week, but being unscreened it goes get a flurry of leaves, which can arrive as soon as the pool guy leaves!
Thanks also for mention of lawn needing mowing, we have just taken on a new company, so I will speak to them now.
This property is beyond special. It is a mid-century masterpiece inside and out. My only regret is not spending more time at the house to take in every little detail. Both the owner and the manager attended to every need a guest could have. The property was conveniently located near adventures for both our children in the Winter Haven area, while allowing easy day trips to the beaches. We look forward to coming back!
Very relaxing stay in a well maintained MCM
We spent an enjoyable week in this amazing well maintained home. We have rented homes on three continents and quickly decided this was our best find ever! We love mid century modern and my husband a retired architect found this after searching for MCM homes. The furniture is well kept and functional and the outside landscaping is beautiful. Yes the kitchen has not been changed but that is part of the uniqueness of this house. We were able to cook meals daily and also used the brand new outside charcoal grill. We loved having so many interesting local places to walk daily. The house manager was most helpful and does a great job. Hopefully next time we can stay longer.
Classic 1957 Vacation Home - Marvelous
We thoroughly enjoyed a month-long stay in this unique and wonderful mid-century modern classic home. As stated by the owner and in other reviews, this home is NOT equipped with overstuffed furniture/recliners or flat screen TVs with DVR, etc. It IS equipped with high end furnishings, artwork, and appliances from the 1950s and 60s, with quality design being the paramount aesthetic. We did indeed need to adapt to the older TV with antenna, the platform style beds, and Roman showers. But we did so with appreciation for the symmetry, beauty, and light this home has. It has great karma. The heated pool is sublime and great for lounging or laps. The outdoor furniture is VERY high end and comfortable. The owner and the on site manager, Rachael, were attentive and VERY responsive to any question or concern we brought forward. When the wall freezer perished on our arrival, a new portable one was set up in less than 48 hours. In four years of renting, we have never had such remarkable response as here. It is indeed a great location, close to EVERYTHING we wanted. And we learned so much about an era of design we grew up with, but now appreciate more than ever. Thank you Andrew, for this wonderful opportunity.
Thank you so much for your review. It is great to have guests who appreciate all we have done to create the unique experience you have had. We were lucky that the house was maintained so well by the original owners and that we have saved it for many others to enjoy! Hope to meet up next time you are in Lakeland.
Mid century modern
This place is cool to stay for 1 night, but not convienent for more than that. It has all original furniture, appliances, and fixtures which was nice to see but not to smell. It smelled like my great grannys closed up house. It was clean but the smell was everywhere. Don't know if the sheets were clean because the smelled like my granny! I felt like we smelled like the house when we left it. The original fridge did not work. Had a mini fridge. So glad I didn't get groceries first because they wouldn't fit! The beds were hard and uncomfortable ( probably 1956 original.) The showers heads were short. Had to sit to wash my hair. Master bath didn't have hot water, second bath drain was clogged. The sliding screen doors were very hard to move. Thought they might break when we used them. Wood deck outside was so dry rotted it felt like we were walking on a sponge. Pool needed a good scrubbing. Didn't even use it. Like I said this house is cool if you want to step back in time for a night. I really feel like the owner needs to do some major maintenance to make it a little more liveable for people of this century. Also had to send multiple emails to get my security deposit back (10 days after checkout.)
Thanks for the review. It is always good to hear about our guests experiences at the house. But this guest didn't bring up any issues while staying at the house, even though our house manager is on call 24/7 and is located 2 blocks away. The issues mentioned relate mainly to the fact that the house is a great example of mid century modern architecture and design and this guest really didn't appreciate it, which is such a shame as we list the house as this and make it very clear that you are staying in a piece of mid century design with all its idiosyncrasies and not in a bland modern vacation home. Of course we will address all the issues, but if these had been mentioned while the guest was in residence perhaps she would have enjoyed her stay more.
Fabulous and Preserved Mid Century Gem
Staying at this beautifully-designed mid-century modern home was a real treat. We went with another couple who is also very familiar with Mark Hampton the architect and appreciated the architecture of the home. The house was thoughtfully preserved and we enjoyed our time there. Beautiful home, pool and great location. We look forward to going back!
