3 Bedrms, 2.5 Baths, Sleeps 6 in 3 beds (8 MAX on daybed, kinda a tight fit)
It all started in 2006 when we were a family of 3 (Midge, Aaron & Bodi, age 2) & we bought Casa Beya. Now Bodi is 15. Casa Beya has been sold to a wonderful couple from Canada. Midge (still the owner of The Seagrape Escape) runs Guest Services/reservations for the 2 houses, while Casa Beya's owners, John & Judy manage all other aspects.
Midge purchased this Villa in 2005
Why Midge chose Maya Beach
We initially came to Belize in 2005 for a 7 day epic mountain bike race, which started and ended at the Placencia Hotel. We fell in love with the culture, the people and the vibe on the Peninsula. On one particular bumpy bike ride down the rode from the village we came upon some newly constructed condo which were offering 'pre-construction' prices. We nibbled at the bait and were caught hook, line & sinker! However, we just knew we were not condo folks....so when we saw Casa Beya on the market, we never looked back. It has been a dream come true to be able design and run this house as a rental. We have had many return guests and even several memorable weddings on the property!! Since May 2014 Casa Beya is now owed by John and Judy, who enjoy leaving cold Canada to warm their toes in the sand. They can't wait to start bringing their young grandchildren down to Belize.

Classic Beach House
Casa Beya is right on the beach with a great dock and outdoor porches, including a hanging napping bed. Even though it's right on the main road into Placencia, the traffic dies down at night and is pretty quiet. With kayaks and SUP's, it is a great place to wind down after climbing the Mayan temples inland. And it is a 2 minute walk to a wonderful restaurant, Maya Beach Bistro, which is open for all 3 meals.
Everything you need, nothing you don't
We had a great stay at Casa Beya, and Midge plus the on-site managers were wonderful to work with.
Location: we loved the location in Maya Beach and walked to the best restaurant on the peninsula, Maya Ocean Club, often and it was only 100 yards away. This location is NOT close to the main Placencia Village, which we were very okay with. We rented a golf cart for a few days, and it was a leisurely 25 min. ride to the main village. There was a basic grocery store a 2 minute bike ride away (bikes are provided).
The House: The house has a great layout, and was very clean. If you are looking for luxury, go elsewhere, but we felt it was amazing value. The beds were very comfortable, and sheets were soft. The 3rd bedroom is up some steep stairs, and the bathroom for that room is downstairs, but since we only had 2 couples and a baby, it worked fine for us. The house is a little older, and had a few 'quirks' but it added to the charm. It was very CLEAN, which we appreciated. We especially enjoyed eating outside, which is actually on the second level, and worked well to stay away from most of the sand fleas. The kayaks, bikes, and paddle boards were an amazing amenity, and allowed us to go paddle with the manatees that swam by. The private dock was utilized all the time, and was a must for us! Only suggestion I would have is to buy some cheap ice cube trays: they provided plastic reusable ice cubes, but they didn't work to keep a drink ice cold.
When they say 'pack light' they mean it - everything else is there!
Personnel: The manager, Midge, was very helpful and has a great 'welcome packet'. They were able to confirm some additional questions I had, and do a pre-arrival grocery shop for us. Martin and Diana were the on-site caretakers and very lovely. They always seemed to pop in when you needed them to, and otherwise we had no idea they lived below us.
Wonderful, unique house right on the beach!
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Beya. Its a spacious house with many unique features to relax and enjoy including a beautiful private beach area. Its close to good restaurants also. Some are within walking distance others a fairly short drive into the main town area. The caretakers Martin and Diana are very nice and helpful. The manager was easy to book through and get information as we planned for our trip. We really enjoyed Placencia/Maya beach.
We enjoyed our stay, but don't think I'd go again at the start of the rainy season. Waters were choppy several days - if you think the waters will be calm the next day, book that snorkeling experience! We missed our chance - not that that has anything to do with the property. Also of course, very hot and humid, the bedroom air conditioners could barely keep up. We did sleep with all the windows open a few nights, it was nice to hear the ocean. I loved sitting out at the end of the pier at the beginning and end of the day. It's like you have the entire Caribbean Sea to yourself - no cargo or cruise ships or airplanes with banners to mar the view, no stingrays or jellyfish to be careful of. Martin and Diana were great, do use their suggestions. Proximity to the adorable bowling alley and its food was key, along with walking to the little grocery store and of course the Maya Beach Bistro. Midge was great to work with ahead of time. Fully enjoyed our side trips to the Mayan ruins in the south and the Jaguar Preserve. Mosquitos not half as bad as I thought they would be, at least at the house.
great area for traveling around the lower half of the country.
not too far from village where there are several food markets & eateries. loved the "hammock hut"! didnt like the sea grass. everyday we got a bubbler jug of drinking water. the main part of house was always hot, maybe thin out the trees between the houses to allow more airflow. patio & swinging bed got a great breeze. bedrooms were air conditioned, thankfully. loved to house colors & decor, very fun! would recommend this location but do need a car or golf cart.
At the house there is great swimming, hammock lounging, Beach-Cruiser biking, paddle boarding, outdoor showering! 2 Kayaks(more kayaks can be rented down the beach)
Across the street: The country's only bowling alley (4 lanes). They serve cool A/C, Great Pizza & good drinks!
Walking down the road or Beach: several small resorts that serve food & drink. A few of them will let you use their pool if you spend $$ in the resturant. (Maya Beach Hotel , Maya Breeze Hotel & Bz Ocean club)
PLUS!!: we now have a GREAT market just down the road: a 10 min walk or a 2 min bike ride. (Fresh produce best found in the village, 8 mi away)
a 1 mi. walk or quick Kayak: The newly open Belize Ocean Club as a swim up bar. Need I say more?
In Placencia Village, 8 mi away: more markets, shops, restaurants, Turtle Inn, Art Galleries, smoothie shack, dive shops & our favorite= Tuttie Fruitti Ice Cream shop! Please visit Greg at his fresh produce stand right across the road from here!
Within 1 hr= Monkey River tour, Jaguar Perserve (Waterfalls, Mayan Crafts, river float on inner tubes, jungle hikes)
2-3 hr drive: Caves tubing, Amazing Mayan Ruins, Zip Line, Blue Hole Nat'l park, Jungles and our favorite place to spend the night to or from the airport is the BZ ZOO! Their nocturnal tour is not to be missed!
