Bedrooms 3
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 6 - 7 nights

About the property

Family friendly, 3 bedroom, 2 full baths, sleeps 6, dogs considered

7 private acres on Meddybemps Lake, Alexander, Maine backed by 300+ acres of conservation land. Property has its own sandy beach extending far into the lake (one of few natural freshwater beaches in Maine). Year round residence built in 2003 has right to use adjacent 300+ acres of conservation land private to neighborhood. Kayaks equipped for four paddlers (one double and two singles). Home has two upstairs bedrooms with double beds with shared full bath and downstairs bedroom with kingsize bed and private bath. Eat-in screened sunporch. Gas fireplace. Handicapped friendly (first floor bedroom and bathroom, lever door handles, wheelchair wide doorways and ramp access to house, second floor staircase dual railings to help with balance).

Fall foliage and winter cross country skiing and ice fishing.

Jean, one of the owners, grew up spending vacations on the lake. A favorite spot of hers, and her father and his brothers before her was a remote sandy beach you could only access by boat. When the property came up for sale many years later, she and her husband Rob bought it. Working with a local conservation group, the character of the land has been preserved, but now the beach is a short walk away - and private to their property. It's a very quiet spot, and remains, to many, the loveliest spot on the lake.

Great swimming and boating. Gas grill and picnic table, hammock and beach chairs on beach. Kayaks are provided or bring your own boat and beach it on the white sand. Eat-in heated sunporch. Grocery stores, golf, hospital, restaurants 15 minutes away. Fish for bass (no limit), landlocked salmon, or white perch. Ice cream stand and restaurant 1.8 miles away. Championship golf course at world famous Algonquin Resort in St. Andrews, NB, CA, 45 minutes away, is open to the public. 15 minutes to Calais Golf Course. Located in the St. Croix River Valley, there are numerous river and lake trips minutes away. Two border crossings into New Brunswick Canada are 15 minutes away.

4 Seasons Home on Meddybemps

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful stay on Meddybemps. The house was very clean with many conveniences. Highlights were the lake, private beach, use of kayaks, and having wi-fi. Neighbors on one side, but you cannot actually see them, so we had lots of privacy. Great lake for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. Would highly recommend this place for a quiet vacation spot!

Private, large, immaculate home on stunning setting!

  • 5 of 5

Pictures do not do this property justice! The home is very large and well laid-out for privacy between guests. The water is just a few steps away, with a soft sandy beach on a private little cove. Our two little dogs had the time of their lives and didn't want to leave!! The home was very well equipped, with closets and drawers in each room for our clothing and extra bedding just in case. The kitchen has every single appliance, utensil, cook and bakeware imaginable. Even a coffee grinder and French press! And the Lawlis' even provide a large variety of pantry items, should we have forgotten anything. The only downfall were the mosquitoes - but even this the owners had prepared us for with a variety of bug sprays, citronella candles, even one of those big zappers to help keep them at bay. Even though we were in town to work, this lovely home made our stay feel more like a vacation. We look forward to staying again the next time we are in town!

A Very Peaceful Time

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé, and I along with our two Wheaten Terriers just returned from a very relaxing week on Meddybemp cottage. The cottage was well represented and all the basic supplies needed were there. My dogs enjoyed swimming and loved the freedoms of being able to run around all day without being leashed.

Internet, cell phone service were not very good. The TV did not get any stations, but we rented movies at night from the convenience store down the road. For us it as a nice break from the busy corporate lives we live. I would highly recommend this cottage if you are looking for a place to relax without technology for a week. We feel so relaxed after our week on the lake.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to stay at your home

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry for your trouble with the internet. We didn't know you were having a problem. I should have checked in with you the day after you arrived to make sure everything was working well. The next guests called us when they arrived and couldn't get it working. With help from the service provider's tech support, the guests were able to reset the modem and the problem was resolved. So sorry you had to live with it. Usually when it goes down, turning it on and off brings it back. We are glad you and the dogs had a good time. Sorry we didn't get to meet them (and you). Jean

Lovely but buggy. With wind, PERFECT!

  • 4 of 5

The house was exactly as pictured. We enjoyed the sandy lake; the water was crystal clear, fishing was good, and we especially enjoyed the supplied kayak's.

The house required about 4 hours of cleaning prior to using the facility which was a huge inconvenience after driving 11 hours to get there.

Be prepared if going in July with plenty of bug spray. The mosquitos were relentless.

I would recommend going to Cutler (do not take Rt 1) to get Lobsters from Little River Lobster Company. We purchased enough for the week and enjoyed them fresh out of the water.

The Nook and Cranny Resturant is a must as the food was perfect and the environment quaint.

Thank you for the stay Meddybemps Lake.

Completely satisfied.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was exactly as described by the advertisement.

There was even more special attentions, as a GPS, the provision of canoes, a coffee machine very useful, lots of information on things to do and places to visit in surroundings…

Everything was very well maintained and clean, we enjoyed our vacation immediately.

The owners were very helpful, efficient and very caring. We have not had the chance to meet us, but everything was perfect and very professional. I hope to return soon to the cottage of Jean and Rob, and I already recommended this place to all my friends in France and the USA.

There is a small equestrian center 2 miles away from the cottage (city of Alexander) where my daughter stinks horseback riding with the owner named Audrey. This is a friendly place and Audrey is a very nice person.

We also found in Eastport (7 Sea Street, ME 04631) A place where You Could buy very good lobsters and eat them in front of the ocean on nice picnic area, for a great price. This is the Quoddy Bay Lobster.

Finally those who love fishing can have fun with a direct and private access to the lake, but also on the ocean located 30 minutes from the cottage.

Everything was perfect and it was very hard to leave...

Meddybemps cottage

  • 5 of 5

Expecting a cottage, I was pleasantly surprised at the spacious, sunny home I found. It was well equipped and comfortable, with large bedrooms and baths. The upstairs can be shut off by a door for privacy. The location is sheltered--one cannot see neighbors though they can at times be heard. The sandy beach and the view up the lake draw one to sit there in the shade or to kayak or swim in the lake. There are nearby towns and places to explore, including the seacost town of Calais. A nearby restaurant, the "Nook and Cranny," offers surprisingly fine dining. I hope to return and would certainly recommend this place.
