Me and my girlfriends stayed here for 5 nights to celebrate our 40th birthdays this year. It was the trip of a lifetime. You can see and hear the waves from the massive front porch (coffee in the hammock was my favorite) and walk down to the beach easily. We did yoga at the beach, a sound bath, and had wonderful meals at amazing restaurants nearby. Carla even helped arrange a delicious private chef meal at the house. We flew into Liberia and rented a car for the trip. Tamarindo is about 45 minutes away and Avellanas about 10. Thank you to Carla for being a communicative and gracious host!

We were traveling with a family of 10. It is not stated that two of the bedrooms are not in the same area of the house as the other 3. We were told to always keep the doors locked for safety which was a bit concerning and then there was security that came by the 1st night 2 times which did not make it feel safe. Also the housekeeping came in when we were there and on the last day they were cleaning as we were packing up to leave. That should be addressed as we felt it was a bit intrusive. Overall we loved the outside area of the house and the pool area. The bedrooms situation was not ideal for us and having two keys but always needing to lock the doors was stressful. Also Carla did book a horseback riding day for us which was wonderful, however I should have asked to make sure one of the people was bilingual.

Hi Joe! Thanks for taking the time to write the review! Part of my job is to tell to my guests to lock the doors even if this should be obvious cause you don’t leave a house with doors unlocked when you go out, worldwide I think, but I am sorry this caused you stress. the security guard is going around between all the properties from 6pm to 6am, and it’s a service that all the guests appreciate, I am sorry that wasn’t for you. You left at 7am and as I told you the maid would have come to the house at 6.45 for the checkout procedure which is always better to do it at the presences of the guests, you could have told me that would have be uncomfortable for you, I am sorry. Regarding the not bilingual horseback riding guy I am sorry but I think that if you come in a country that the first language is not yours you could try to communicate, there are many translators applications that can help. I think is the beauty of traveling! You can’t take for granted that everyone speaks English. I’ll write more clearly about the disposition of the bedrooms, thanks for the advice! You are more than welcome to come back at La Choza if you wish!

My husband and I booked this place for our milestone 15th year anniversary. This was our first time in Costa Rica and the place was so magical. It was very clean, and I loved seeing the ocean waves from the kitchen sink. The kitchen island was huge! We loved hearing the birds which sounded different than what we’re used to in the United States. On a rainy day, Carla did an amazing job booking me a massage therapist who came within a few hours for 90 minute massage on the deck. Her name was Francis and she did an incredible job! It was very relaxing to hear the ocean and the rain during the massage. Carla was very responsive to our messages and made our stay very enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again!

I rarely leave anything but 5-star reviews, and at the start of our stay this would have been as well. The home is beautiful and Playa Negra is stunning. The main drawbacks were no AC in the main living area (though it is open-air) and two bedrooms that require walking outside to access — not ideal for two families with five young kids. The same key also locks both areas, which complicated things.Unfortunately, our experience with the host significantly detracted from the stay.The listing states there is a washer and dryer and notes laundry is 8 per load, but guests are not allowed to use the machines.All laundry and cleaning must be done by the cleaning crew with no disclosure of additional fees, tipping expectations, or charges, and with the implication this service is included in the booking total. At checkout, it became clear guests are expected to tip substantially, apparently because the cleaners are not paid by the host, despite the cleaners daily cleaning required by host.We were also contacted repeatedly about tipping. Although tips are said to be optional, the messages created pressure. Being told after checkout that your tip was insufficient is inappropriate, especially with no clear expectations.Any laundry, cleaning, or concierge fees beyond the booking total should be clearly disclosed. The home is lovely and Playa Negra is magical, but the lack of transparency and pressure around extra payments made this stay far less relaxing than it should have been.

I'm very sorry you felt this way, probably because I don't speak English well. We were very happy to host you and hope you'll return in the future. Of course, the cleaning staff is paid by the owners for their valuable work, and certainly a recognition from the guests, since daily cleaning is offered and included in the price, is welcomed and appreciated. It's my job to ensure this is recognized, as they work so hard to make your vacation even more special. They clean, wash, and tidy every day, and all the guests appreciate and acknowledge their hard work. Apparently, this wasn't the case for you, which I think is normal in your country. I'm sorry if I didn't express myself clearly when requesting recognition for the cleaning staff. I'll try to improve my English and hope you'll visit us again!

Absolutely perfect!!!

Every minute of our stay was perfect! Carla (property manager and a true gem) ensured that we had everything we needed, including getting our groceries prior to us arriving. The house was exactly as described. We loved the huge deck with hammocks and couches. Spent our time between the pool in the backyard, the pool at hotel and beach - paradise. The bar and restaurant at the hotel were fantastic - every meal we had was amazing. We will be back…

Perfect vacation in Playa Negra

We had the most amazing vacation and loved everything about our stay in Playa Negra. We were looking for a comfortable home, near the beach, convenient to restaurants and activities, but off the beaten path. La Choza checked every box and then some. Carla was incredibly helpful and responsive before and during our stay. Highly recommend this property for anyone looking for the perfect Costa Rican get away.

Beautiful house in lovely coastal Costa Rica

Can't say enough about this beautiful house. We had 8 family members and everyone was comfortable and happy. The little hotel down the path had great food, beach yoga on a covered platform and massages. Carla was super helpful with recommendations for activities, food and anything with the house. This was a perfect choice for our family.

Love this house

My family met another family and enjoyed the house so much. Everything was amazing and as billed in description. Carla was amazing. We even got to meet the owner and his son, super cool. Would 100% stay here again. Loved loved loved it. There is nothing one could complain about. Pura Vida.

Wonderful Trip

We had an amazing time in playa negra. The house was lovely and short walk to the beach. You could see and hear the ocean from the porch. It was nice to have access to the pool and restaurant at hotel playa negra. Playa negra is a cery remote beach/surf village and we really felt like we were away. Not many tourists or Americans around which was really nice. We took several day trips to see other parts of Costa Rica. I would love to go back!

Paradise!

Wonderful experience from start to finish. The layout for our five friends was perfection. We were very happy about the walking distance to beautiful beaches - and even more happy to have a drink at the bar during the walk back to the house. Carla had terrific dinner recommendations and we opted for Costa Rican breakfast to be prepared on site. Delicious and artfully presented by two lovely women. We will definitely return!

Repeat family visit

We were happy to return to this terrific property and were not disappointed. The house is large and comfortable and allowed us to spread out and chill. The small and relaxed beachfront Hotel Playa Negra next door just added to the ambience and ease with its restaurant and beach bar. Although we were familiar with the house and area we appreciated Carla's help with various reservations and availability for the few minor questions which arose. We hope to return.

La Choza is a great place to stay in Playa Negra Guanacaste

The house is great, plenty of space and well located. It was very clean, key for us during this pandemic of Covid-19. We stayed 4 nights and was wonderful. The host Carla is so kind, and always willing to help with any detail or question. This property is highly recommended not only to International tourist coming from anywhere in the world but also to Ticos who look for a calm place to enjoy. He hope to return in the future. Carla is very kind and accommodating. The resort next door is very convenient for quick bites and surf shop. House was very clean. We got personal chefs and massages at the house which was 5 star for sure. Beach is beautiful and property is stunning. The only thing our group felt was missing g was a grill by the pool. Beautifully decorated, spacious and Carla checked on our needs daily. Great 40th birthday experience for our friends and family

Location, Location...

Our stay at La Choza was perfect in every way. We had six adults on our trip and the house had ample bedrooms and bathrooms, although we spent the majority of our time on the massive porch or by the swimming pool. The spacious kitchen was also more than adequate for our needs. A few of us in the group have traveled to Playa Negra many times and we all agreed that La Choza was the best property we have ever stayed in. The house is comfortable, the landscaping is exquisite, and the location is the best. Being just steps away from the beach and Hotel Playa Negra is ideal. The check-in/check-out procedure was easy with the help of the property manager Carla. She went above and beyond to help our group with massage appointments, dinner recs, and various other questions. Carla is an absolute expert in that area of Costa Rica and always was quick to answer questions. We will definitely plan a trip back to La Choza again!!

The ultimate peaceful vacation

The home is wonderful. We enjoyed morning coffee, naps on hammocks and family dinner all in the incredible outdoor space. The views of the Pacific, nature and of course the neighbor horses were picture perfect. All the bedrooms are comfortable and the kitchen is well-appointed. On hot afternoons, the swimming pool was just right. My favorite spot was the lounge chair under the mango tree. Easy walk down to Hotel Playa Negra restaurant which is on the beach. Terrific breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks. Surf was wonderful. Will definitely return.

A Well-Deserved Five Stars!

Our group of 9 thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Choza. The house is spacious, clean, and secure. The property is steps from the amazing beach and surfing hotspot that is Playa Negra. There are plenty of services within a short walk and even more within a short drive. I can also say that our host, Carla, is without question the most attentive host I have ever worked with at any property I have ever stayed at world-wide. She helped our group organize several excursions we otherwise would not have easily experienced. THANK YOU CARLA!!

Perfect location and layout for a large family

Our family found this property to be perfect to suit everyone's interests. There was plenty of space outdoors and lots of large furnishings for everyone to find a space together or apart to relax comfortably. The views off the balcony were spectacular all day. The pool got just the right amount of sun and shade throughout the day, so you could really plan out when to spend your time there depending on your preference. The very short trail to the beach was perfect as you feel like you're directly beach front but there's just enough distance that it felt very secure. We found lots of great little snorkel spots and despite not doing any surfing ourselves, we loved watching the surfers at sunset. The location was ideal for planning activities and finding good restaurants and gladly not as busy and chaotic as Tamarindo. We also found the kitchen well equiped and enjoyed making 60% of our meals at home. The hosts were incredible at making arrangements for many of our outings. I can't recommend this place enough for large families; we really loved making memories here. Our only caution is to make sure your vehicle rental is 4x4 as the roads are a wild ride.

Massages, day trips, transportation, chef services and dinner reservations

We stayed as Casa La Choza for Spring Break. The house accommodated 2 families with small children perfectly. This was the most idyllic family vacation we have ever had. To start with the house is beautiful and comfortable. Private salt water pool was the icing on the cake. A small walk away is the beautiful beach and a nice hotel if you want access to a restaurant and more people. But you really cant beat eating meals on the deck feeling the breeze and seeing the ocean in the distance. The private chef service was so delicious and an incredible deal. The house manager, Adrian is such a kind, helpful and patient person. He made sure our every need was arraigned for, and I cant say we were low maintenance. It was great having groceries ready for us when we arrived. He set up massages, day trips, transportation, chef services and dinner reservations. We are so lucky to find this place and truly grateful to Adrian for all of his help.

Vacation of a lifetime

To say that this property lived up to our expectations is an understatement. I have been “planning” a Costa Rican vacation for ten years. Landing in this property was both research and luck. This home is beautiful and private while still in a “community” and as close to in the beach as you could want. From listening to the waves as I fell asleep, to the dining on the patio, to napping in the hammocks, to cooling off in the pool. It was both luxurious and comfortable. Plenty of room for larger groups(we didn’t even touch two of the bedrooms) but cozy enough for our family of five. Our host, Carolina, was the cherry on top. Not only did she make everything easy to do( check in etc.) she offered up so many helpful suggestions for activities, food, and basically anything she could possibly help with. I must say, this trip was a go all out splurge for our family…. and worth all of it. And if you can fit it in, I highly recommend the catamaran tour that she helped us line up. I would go back in a heart beat. Thank you for everything.
