The Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club sits right on the shores of Playa Avellanas, With an infinity-edge pool looking over the famous surf break of Little Hawaii. The Beach Club has something for everyone whether it's cocktails and or fruit smoothies from the poolside Tiki Bar, kicking back in the poolside sunbeds, surfing one of the world-class breaks of Playa Avellanas, working out in ocean view fitness center, or relaxing with a massage in the wellness center, its the ultimate beach day!
Beach Club has an annual closing in October every year.
As a guest of this property, the entry into the beach club is $5 (only paid once per day and for ages 10+)
BEACHES With 3 miles of coastline within the 4500-acre ranch, there is always a corner, tidepool or wave to be found.
Playa Mansita & Bonita, home of the JW Marriott hotel a great stretch to beach comb and explore tide pools on the lower tide.
Playa Langosta, world-class surfing, beach, and river fishing. We believe Langosta to be the hidden gem of Hacienda Pinilla, the shaded palapas are a great spot for a beach day in the shade, and your just a stroll and river crossing from the action of Playa Langosta and Tamarindo

You can also purchase a day pass for use of the hotel's pool which is the largest throughout Central America. The day pass gives you access to all of the hotel grounds and amenities. Please note that the day passes at the JW are subject to occupancy.
GOLF COURSE 18 hole par 72 beachfront golf course ( the beachfront hole has an awesome sunset view on a secluded beach)
TENNIS COURTS 3 hard court tennis courts with an onsite instructor. private, semi-private, and or group lessons are available. Kids camps and pickleball events are regular activities.
HORSE STABLES The best way to explore the 4500 ranch is by horseback. Tours are available at any time and can be customized to fit your group's needs, with rides from 30 mins to 2 hrs taking you through the forest and out along the secluded beaches all here within the ranch.
MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS With over 45 kilometers of trails throughout the ranch, forest, and coastline, Hacienda Pinilla is a great location for mountain biking. With natural scenic routes and rigorous trails for every type of bike rider, Hacienda Pinilla offers up adventure, challenge, and enjoyment for families, first-timers, experts, and everyone in between.
SURFING Hacienda Pinilla has to be one of the best locations in Costa Rica to base your surf trip. With 6 waves just on Playa Avellanas and private access to the beach breaks of Playa Langosta, you don't even need to leave the ranch, but if you looking to explore the area, the famous Playa Negra reef breaks are just 10 minutes south and the river mouth and beach breaks of Tamarindo just 10 minutes to the north.

Great Family Vacation
We stayed here for 12 days and had a lovely time. The host is very responsive and helped us with anything we needed during the stay in a timely fashion. The area is very nice and we had lots of fun seeing monkeys right in our backyard while hanging out by the pool. We would absolutely return.

A true sanctuary!
Our group of 11 loved staying at the Sanctuary! The house is just as described with very comfortable bedding! Xio and the rest of the maintenance team responded to our requests/questions in a very timely manner. Our favorite beach was Langosta (accessible only to the pinilla community). This has a lot of shade, and bathroom facilities. We also saw monkeys, macaws and iguanas there.

Nice family vacation
The communication with the property management company was fantastic. We had a number of questions before and during our stay and always received a prompt response. The house was great for our family, bigger than I anticipated and we enjoyed it. The private pool and community amenities were a great plus. We went to the club house pool almost everyday. For 5 it was very affordable. The home was a little more “lived in” than expected. Slight signs of use and wear/tear but overall comfort and cleanliness was great.

Getaway in Paradise
We absolutely loved our stay at The Sanctuary. It was truly paradise! The entire home was stunning and fit our group of 11 women perfectly. Mergie and Joel were an absolute pleasure to work with and made the entire planning process seamless. They helped us with recommendations and booking for just about everything — prestocked groceries, transportation, private sailboat and more. We are eager to return to The Sanctuary!

True Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is just that and more. Pictures do not do it justice as it is even more serene and beautiful in real life. Floor to ceiling windows in our bedroom opened up to a tropical paradise, not to mention the enclosed outdoor shower. Breakfast prepared by the housekeeping staff was wonderful. Location could not have been better for beach access or day trips. 100% booking again.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Sanctuary. I can’t say enough about it. My family enjoyed an amazing vacation here. The house is beautiful, and super clean, the pool is really nice. My kids loved playing in the pool and lounging on the floaties. We especially loved watching the family of monkeys swinging in the trees behind the pool deck. The gym at the clubhouse was a definite plus. Not crowded and very well equipped for a great workout. We will definitely come back to the Sanctuary'.

Love the Sanctuary
The Sanctuary is perfectly named, as it was a true escape for my wife and I. Not only was the weather perfect but the entire property was truly amazing. We loved how the pool was central to the layout of the house and spent every day (and night) pool side. The bedrooms were spacious, quiet, and comfortable. The outdoor shower was awesome and there was lots of space for family fun -- but also private/individual time. Close by the Sanctuary we found time to golf, go to the beautiful beach nearby, play pickle ball and enjoy the Costa Rica sites. My only wish was we made it a 10-day trip vs 7-days!

Outstanding House, Location and Hosts
Fantastic house , appears exactly as advertised. It’s spacious home with plenty of room for our group of 7 (4 adults and 3 teens). The pool / outdoor area is perfect, seeing the monkeys in the trees several times during the week was incredible, there were easily 10 to 12. Bedrooms are great we loved the outdoor shower, kitchen is spacious and well appointed. Location is great , loved having access to the private beach club and close to other public beaches and restaurants. Downtown Tamarindo is about a 20 to 25 minute drive so pretty close but you will need a car. Hosts were fantastic in all the pre planning , coordinating private chefs , groceries and dinner reservations, much appreciated !

Perfect House!
My husband and I stayed here for a much needed getaway for two. This house was absolutely perfect and exactly as pictured. It was spotless, the beds were comfy, and it was stocked with everything we could possibly need. We practically lived out by the pool in the covered outdoor living space when we weren’t out exploring. The outdoor shower was great, we barely used the one in the master! Highly recommend a golf cart to explore Hacienda Pinilla, it would be a very long walk to the resorts or beaches. It is about a 20 minute drive into Tamarindo, so unless you plan to stay inside the property only, definitely rent a car. I would absolutely stay in this house again!

Excellent vacation
Everything about Vida Pinilla was perfect! The property management, the house staff, the home were all first class. Our family of 7 ranged from 6 years old, 3 teens and 3 adults. We had plenty of room and felt completely comfortable and at home. The Sanctuary is in a totally safe and gated community. We enjoyed meals at Lola’s on the beach, the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club and Sabanero Steakhouse at the JW Marriott. We highly recommend this beautiful home in a gorgeous location. (BTW, there were about a dozen monkeys that were literally in the trees behind the house - such a treat!

Beyond fabulous
We could not have asked for a more perfect vacation home! Joel and Tariana were incredibly responsive! We were greeted upon arrival by Tatiana (our concierge), and Xiomora, (our wonderful housekeeper and cook). They had freah fruit waiting for us and Tatiana gave us a tour of the home before connecting us to her via Whatsapp in case we needed anything. It was beautiful, and the pool/outdoor kitchen were our favorite hangouts. It was common to see Howler monkeys and beautiful birds behind the home or out front. The nearby beaches were beautiful as well. I highly recommend this home!

A Memorable, Extraordinary Vacation
My husband and I enjoyed an incredible week at The Sanctuary. The home is spectacularly beautiful and extremely comfortable and well-appointed. We spent days lounging by the lovely swimming pool, enjoying cocktails in the shaded cabana area and luxuriating in the sheer comfort of effortless living, made even more relaxing with the delicious daily breakfast and housekeeping service. The Sanctuary is walking distance to a spectacular beach where we spent days body-surfing, exploring and enjoying the soul-soothing sunsets. While you enjoy all the wonderful comforts of a five-start resort at The Sanctuary, you are also in the centre of an incredible natural environment. A favourite memory was hearing the monkeys that would gather often in the natural habitat behind The Sanctuary. Amazing! We highly recommend The Sanctuary for your next holiday and look forward to a return in the near future.

Great house, amazing service!
The Sanctuary was a fabulous place to stay for three families on spring break (6 adults, 6 kids). We all agreed it was even better than the pictures. The space easily accommodated our large group - having the semi-detached rooms was great for the kids. The kids lived in the pool, and we especially loved when the monkeys hung out in the trees as they were playing. We also can't say enough about the Sanctuary hosts - Mergie, Joel, and Tatiana answered all of our millions of questions promptly and were so helpful in planning our trip and various excursions. Xiomara was also wonderful and so nice about our chaos swirling around her!
The location of the house is also great - close to more restaurants and grocery stores than we were expecting and a short drive to Tamarindo. However, we'd recommend cars (NOT golf carts). The community beach club is a tremendous asset to the house, and we visited several times.
Overall, we highly recommend the Sanctuary as a vacation house in CR!

Beautiful home in Hacienda Pinilla
This property was nothing short of amazing! The house was beautiful and came fully equipped with just about everything we needed for the week. The house managers were very responsive and helpful, and housekeeping was available every day if we wanted.
We also appreciated that Hacienda Pinilla was securely gated, as well as the specific area to The Sanctuary. We felt very safe for the entire duration of our trip. This house was also about 25 minutes from Tamarindo, so we were able to do some shopping, excursions and eat out at a variety of restaurants.
The outdoor pool and patio space was wonderful. It was very well thought out in that there was always some shade throughout the day. We often saw monkeys in the nearby trees and heard and saw lots of birds. The ability to use the nearby beach club and beaches was a wonderful addition to the amenities of this house. The beds were comfy and the outdoor shower spaces made for a great experience as well. We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a trip to the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica.

Fantastic vacation for 6!
I'll start by echoing the previous reviews that mention how very responsive the concierge team is. They helped with all our excursions prior to getting there and were readily available for a few minor mishaps to help straighten things out during our stay. We also had a request after we got there and they were able to make that happen as well. The property is just as pictured although there is no TV in the Master bedroom which didn't bother us at all but worth mentioning if that is important to you. We had groceries delivered and I'm not sure I ever want to go somewhere that isn't offered again. It was wonderful to get to the house after a long day of travel to have everything already there. One of my very favorite things about our vacation was Xiomara. She comes Mon - Sat and will cook a delicious breakfast of your choosing (with supplied groceries). She was so kind and accommodating and it was so nice not to have to cook and clean up. The drivers that were arranged to pick us up and take us to various excursions were all wonderful and very knowledgeable about the area. We rented a golf cart but I would probably not do that again. It has strict restrictions about where you can take it so if you want to explore at all, a car will be a much better choice. Several nearby restaurants were out of the allowed area but thankfully some deliver and saved the day. All in all everyone really enjoyed the trip and we would definitely book with Vida Pinilla again.

Fun stay; some improvements warranted
The house is beautiful and new. Well-stocked with kitchen supplies, towels, etc. The beds were comfortable + the linens great! The home is in a neighborhood; it’s a suburban vibe. House is on a culdesac; it’s def just a new neighborhood development. I was misled to believe we’d have access to the JW Marriott’s beach club. In fact my first correspondence with the house manager was to confirm that. Despite confirmation of that before booking, we did not have any access to that club. I understand this was high season and probably the most touristed week of the year—but I was never told our access would be conditional. JW was “sold out” our week there. The community’s beach club, though, was awesome. It’s a drive (vs walk) with kids—about a mile away. You’ll never find more than 2 beach chairs together in the beach club but it was still a cool vibe. Easy going and great food (only one restaurant on-location). The home’s primary bathroom shower had close to zero water pressure. If 2 showers in the home were going at once, this shower was unusable. Wifi didn’t work for 5 out of our 7 days there. House manager said it was a problem in the development but that was false after talking to neighbors. We finally executed a full router reset ourselves and fixed it. A car rental (not golf cart) is a MUST for this house!! You will be stuck without one. Don’t use the rental company the host recommends; they never told us they were sold out and we scrambled upon arrival to find another car.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion regarding access to the JW Marriott's beach club. It appears there may have been a misunderstanding, as our guests have limited access to the private resort inside the compound, subject to occupancy levels and policies. Our confirmation typically includes access to the Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club, for which we maintain a yearly membership. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed it and found it to be a positive experience.
We regret any inconvenience caused by the water pressure issues in the primary bathroom shower and the intermittent WiFi connection. It appears that one of the service providers in the area, the one servicing this house, experienced difficulties for over a week reestablishing the service.
Regarding transportation, we appreciate your insight and agree that a car rental is highly recommended for exploring the area. We're sorry to hear about the challenges you faced with the recommended golf cart rental company, and we will review our recommendations to ensure that future guests have a smoother experience.
