Nice neighborhood

Our stay was overall good. The only issues we had were the noise from the house upstairs and that we needed toilet paper (which the host did fix). I would stay here again.

This place was perfect for our Salem visit. Easy to find and convenient for a quick trip to the store. The neighborhood was nice.

Good Value - would stay again

Location was convenient to the highway with easy access to Boston, Salem and beyond. There was free off-street parking. Automatic check-in with key pad was seamless. The place itself was clean without being pretentious. There was more than ample space for 2 people. There’s not much natural light in the apartment but plenty of lights, that worked for us. We’re late risers anyways. Appliances, including wifi worked well. Except the washer was not working when we were there. All in all, Geng’s apartment was sufficient for all of our needs.

The unit is in their basement so it’s very noisy with them walking around. We could also hear conversations and assumed they could hear us as well. The place was pretty shabby with mismatched furniture from the 1980’s as well as some of their own stuff stored behind the couch. No television reception or cable and parking was problematic. I wouldn’t stay again.

You need to know this

I give this place 3 stars, its a nice place with a good amount of room but there are a few issues. Our stay was Monday - Friday, just 2 adults. Pros - lots of room. Cons - no ac. There is a portable ac unit on wheels in the bedroom however, the exhaust vent goes behind a curtain to the window but not outside. There is no way to open the window for the exhaust vent to take the hot air outside so it just pumps all the hot air back into the room. Be prepared to wake up at 7:30am every morning - which if you like to get up early then this may not be a problem for you, but if you like to sleep in a bit good luck as you will hear lots of talking and lots of walking across the floor above yiur head.

Noisy upstairs residents and not clean unit

Could use a professional cleaner, bathroom was really dirty. I had to clean to use. Kitchen looked clean but items left to wash dishes was moldy and gross. Utensils and pans were dirty. We really felt like they didn't care and we were an after thought. The front door was through the garage, which smells like gas and no windows in the place for sunshine or fresh air. Half was unit was used for storage which made it unusable for paying guests. Broken furniture and unsafe items found in desk drawer while looking for a pencil. Disappointed for the money I paid. I world have complained to host but didn't have anywhere else to stay.

Great location with serious repairs and deep cleaning needed

The house location and layout was fantastic. While we don't mind a "tired" home, this home needs some deep cleaning. We traveled with our adult children and 3 grandchildren ages 5 months to 4. Some baseboards had thick layers of dirt and dust; all of the wall to wall carpeting had stains. The patio door handle is still broken (as noted by another renter in August 2014). My husband had to buy tools to just tighten it so we could take trash out. The cushions at the small breakfast table were dirty and had cigarette burns in them. The front railing is detached from the post so not safe to use ; the front wooden steps also give a bit and could use extra anchoring. Drawers and liners were dirty in the kitchen and bathrooms. Would never use the placemats in one of the kitchen drawers. We also purchased clean sponges, dish rags and towels for the kitchen as the ones left were smelly and dirty. On a good note-the beds were comfortable and bath linens clean. Great location for either taking trains into Boston or easy access to major highways.

Thank you for the review that your noticed – It is at great location for either taking trains into Boston or easy access major highway. The house beds were conferrable and clean linens, Baths and kitchen were clean. All room was spacious. That is enough for the vacation guests have 4+ scales and enjoin. We are not expected a house INSPECTOR come over to evaluate our house. Also especially, when we met the guest coming to check-in after she walk through that she said like it the fantastic house and also said the house is very large, beautiful, clean and fantastic. Even during days stay to the end of stay there was NOTHING complaint but just only needs fix patio door handle. We did fixed it as it been. It is not appreciated when guest back home to write a bed review without let us know even has opposites feeling.

Unsatisfactory property, Horrible Smell

My spouse and I are extremely disappointed in this property. From the moment we entered the property there was a chemical smell in the garage. The couch/tv area had a very foul urine smell. We could not even use this area. The kitchen, where we had planned to cook our meals, was extremely dirty and unsanitary. There were a couple spiders that we had to kill. The floors and rugs have not been swept or vacuumed, and there was hair everywhere. The residents/owners had a tv blaring up above our bed area until late hours. I’m not sure what the over $100 cleaning fee is for as there was still trash/pizza box from previous occupants. We were not made aware that the washer was not working (looks like they knew weeks before our trip per other reviews) which was one of the reasons we poked this property. I can not recommend this listing.

Exactly as described

This apartment was perfect for our sisters trip to Salem. There was plenty of sleeping space for the 4 of us. The couches were insanely comfy. Fridge and coffee pot worked like a charm. Centrally located to lots of great restaurants and shopping! Parking, checking in and out, and all the rental process was simple and efficient. Overall a wonderful stay and we would rent again if we come back to the area!

Vacation Week

We arrived in high 90s temps with no air conditioning. It was miserable. Listing notes that there is AC and maybe the other units have it. This unit should be listed separately as lt is an added basement unit with only two slit windows. The fans they supplied only moved the hot air around. Television is streaming and antenna. The antenna rarely worked in the basement. Location was wonderful as it put us close to everything but we would have enjoyed watching television in cool temps in our unit.

Well, we had to enter through the garage which was kind of weird. And we found a hair ball covering the shower drain. There was a used roll of toilet paper hiding behind the toilet where they must not have seen it and cleaned better. Dusty in some areas too. Just overall could have been cleaner.

Short trip to Boston

Overall, my friend and I were not impressed.... considering we both must have spotted and then got rid of 3-4 spiders each. Terrible smell all throughout the property- we left the stove and bathroom fans on when we were home to alleviate the smell as best we could. Cobwebs were found around the perimeter of the property and in many locations in the bathroom. Safe to say the cleanliness was not up to our standards, but that’s not to say it won’t be for someone else. On a much more positive note, the property felt extremely safe and was in a great location if ever traveling to Boston- quick and easy 20 min drive into the city. Having a parking space available in the driveway was extremely convenient. The owners had provided laundry detergent, dryer sheets, fabric softener, etc.. for us to do our laundry. (Washer and dryer located in property bathroom) sure is nice coming home from a trip and not having to wash your clothes- makes unpacking 10x better. Anywho, I rated this homeaway as a 3 star stay mainly because of my own personal cleanliness standards. Again, that is not to say it won’t be up to ‘your’ standards. I would just note that if any of the cleanliness issues were to be an issue for you.. then I would reconsider. Thank you!

katelyn had a highly unusual experience. But I hope everyone sees we were very responsive and will always ensure we take care of our guests. As the reasonable price for this love property it would much more deserve.

MIT Grad weekend

We were looking for an inexpensive place to sleep while in Cambridge for our daughter's graduation from MIT. The drive was short, the apartment was way more space than we needed but the price was right.

Spacious and comfortable house in the Boston area for family trip

PROS: Very comfortable, clean, and spacious home in a nice neighborhood for 4 adults and 3 teenagers to spend time together. There were enough bedrooms and bathrooms for our use as well. Also, the washer and dryer was a plus. Linens/towels were plentiful and clean. The nearest subway station and grocery store was a short drive away so would recommend a car to get around. The owner was kind enough to let us come into the house early since our flight arrived in the early morning. CONS: The house overall is clean but the walls are a bit scuffed up. One kitchen cabinet fell off the hinge when I opened it but I just avoided opening it again and it didn't contain anything I really needed. The teflon coating of one saucepan was peeling off so I didn't feel comfortable using it. We were traveling with a senior so the the front steps and hardwood stairs to the upstairs bedrooms and was a little difficult for her to manage. The front step handrails were wobbly due to rotted wood. Overall, if you have the right expectation that it is a rental...you will not be disappointed. This house worked out well for us during our stay in Boston.

Perfect for family trip to Boston area

With 4 adults and 4 kids in our group, the house was plenty large enough to accommodate everyone. The adults could visit while the kids played. And the multiple bathrooms and showers were a plus. Everything was clean and well maintained. Location was great. Took commuter train from Winchester station and it was super easy.

Perfect House for a Large Group!

We were allowed to check-in early, despite the delays from the airport. Owner was extremely quick in resolving some issues we had upon arrival. This home is a quick 20 min Uber ride to downtown, however, not near the T (subway) for public transportation. We would recommend renting a car while staying here. Master bedroom and bath are HUGE! The other 3 rooms were clean, comfortable and cozy. Living spaces were perfect for our group of 7. This rental should be classified as an owner-occupied rental, however, his occupancy in the basement did not impact our stay at all. Great place for a great price! Thanks again for everything!

Good location; Nice neighborhood!

The location of the house was great as was the neighborhood. The house was plenty large enough for our party of seven people (6 adults, 1 child). The house really needed a good cleaning, I am not saying it was filthy, but it was dirty. Bathroom shower stall, shower doors, tracks, etc. have not been cleaned in a while. Kitchen and some bathroom base cabinets were very dirty. There were several repairs that needed to made also; patio door handles fall off when opening, trim loose or broken in some areas, master bathroom sink drains super slow, toilet seat broken (butt pincher). Steps from drive way to front walk are loose/broken and there is no handrail. I do not recommend this house for handicapped or anyone that has difficulty with stairs (this is stated in the listing). On the positive side, the beds were very comfortable, the rooms were nice size.The house is near restaurants, grocery stores and liquor stores and close to public transportation. Would have given this place a higher rating if it were cleaner, but I feel I paid a cleaning fee for nothing.

Very spacious house in an upscale neighborhood

What a fantastic place to stay! We were a party of 4 with 2 adult children. Plenty of room for everyone, even to find your own private place after a full day of sightseeing. We cannot agree with the negative reference that you may read further down. Based upon that reference, I specifically contacted the owner to ensure we would arrive in a clean house with plenty of clean towels. And indeed, all bathrooms were clean, no mold to be seen, clean toilets... We agree that the house could use some more TLC, but overall the floors, bathrooms and bedrooms were clean, and that's the most important. The laundry room came in very handy! The house is located in an upscale and quite neighborhood. The owner himself was very kind. We only met him once, but we were under the impression that he lived in the basement underneath (his car was there most of the time). If indeed so, he never bothered us, we never heard him, so we did not feel in any way uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend this house for its spaciousness and the neighborhood. Good alternative to a hotel for larger families or small groups of friends.

Amazing House and quiet Neighborhood

This house was fantastic and in a quiet Neighborhood. It was the perfect distance to Boston for my family and it was right off of I93, so it made my commute very easy. I stayed here with 5 others in my family, there was plenty of room for all us and a good yard for my kids to run around. The deck in the back of the house was great to have a beer after a long day. The House was very clean and the bathrooms were spotless. This is not really a complaint but we did notice someone moving something out of the basement. It didn't really bother us and I think it was just the owner getting supplies for something. I really enjoyed our stay here and I would recommended it to anyone.

Nice house but...........

This is a very nice house but it was so dirty we would never stay there again. The bathrooms were disgusting with dirty toilets and moldy showers. Some of the towels were dirty and the others had a smell. We had to go to the store and buy towels. I would recommend finding some other place to stay. We've used HomeAway several times and this was by far our worst experience.

Your review is basically not true. Entries house inside and outside-the bed rooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, family room, bath rooms were ALL clean and nice !!! except only few towels not good. We strongly disagree that you grade the house as one star which is irresponsible. There was $35.10 due which you own us. And after you left, we found our HD TV remote control was missing, Please return it back.

Great House

We really enjoyed our stay. There were only 4 of us, so that house felt huge, but we didn't mind. There is plenty of space, 4 good sized bedrooms, beds were good, family room had a comfortable couch set, very nice TV. House was right off the highway. The only complaint we had was that the house felt a little dirty (little thingies on the stairs, pots and pans felt greasy). The towels were a bit stained. I would change a few things if it were my house, but it isn't, and we had a great time.
