Owner's Map of Guadalupe

As a private pilot, I enjoy flying from California out to my FlyingAdobe casita in Santa Fe. I love the weather, people, cuisine, hiking outdoors, and culture of Santa Fe. With high speed wireless internet access, I am able to stay connected with my business back in San Diego while enjoying all that Santa Fe has to offer.

Loved the Flying Adobe!

Date of Stay: 11/23/11 Review Submitted: 11/30/11

My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs over the Thanksgiving holiday. The casita was very comfortable and simple and felt like home to us. We liked the fact we could park our car inside the gate at night, and this fenced area allowed us to let the dogs out on their own. The casita is a short walk to the downtown plaza area, and we found it more convenient to walk rather than drive due to the limited parking available downtown. There are two Ekornes stressless leather chairs in the middle sitting room that are super comfortable, and we enjoyed hanging out in them after our delicious Santa Fe meals! We hope to return to this lovely place--George was a very kind host!

Comfortable and convenient

The casita made for one of our most comfortable and enjoyable stays in Santa Fe. The enclosed off-street parking is really helpful in a town where every space is at a premium. The casita was within walking distance for our in-town destinations and was a great place to regroup after touring the museums and galleries. It is also a great central point for day tripping to hike at Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument which has an amazing hiking trail about 45 minutes south of Santa Fe. Chimayo and Taos are also easy day trips from the casita. A new restaurant in the neighborhood, Azur, has a mediterranean menu with a lot of small plate choices and was an exceptional addition to the always wonderful restaurant scene in Santa Fe. The casita was clean and George and Marga were excellent hosts. We would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful Casita in a great location

We just returned from a 2 week stay at the Flying Adobe Casita. We absolutely loved staying there and enjoying all that Santa Fe and the surrounds have to offer. The home is very comfortable and had everything we needed. Loved those leather chairs in the living room and sitting on the patio mornings and evenings with the mountain backdrop. They were especially beautiful one morning after a heavy rainfall. The mountain tops were covered in snow! We were able to easily walk to the Plaza in about 15 minutes and felt totally safe anytime day or night. Getting to the Railyard district was a bit faster. Loved Andiamo for Italian dining and the Tune Up Cafe has a great breakfast. We'll definitely stay here again. No need to look any further for Santa Fe accomodations!

Perfect for a first time visit to Santa Fe

Guest: Vicki C. (Austin, Texas)
Date of Stay: 08/24/11 Review Submitted: 08/30/11

The Flying Adobe was a great place for two couples who had never traveled to Santa Fe. The casita itself was very well equipped and some very nice stock in the kitchen. We did find Trader Joe's right away and that was wonderful. The location is so easy if you are interested in walking for a quick bite or just to see the surrounding neighborhood. We were a bit creative in creating some outdoor dining space(we live in Texas and Arizona) since we wanted to dine at home al fresco. It worked just fine for us. I would stay here again. V<D<L>L

Owner response:These 2 couples were able to take advantage of the cool evenings and dine outside on the east-facing patio. I really appreciated talking to them as they shared their experiences at my casita. It is interesting how different guests do move furniture around to suit their needs. This is fine with me since everyone has different needs depending on size of their group!

Historic casita is comfortable, close, and lovely

Beautiful old adobe that is roomy, well-stocked and comfortable. Like most old buildings there are plenty of windows to provide great cross ventilation that takes advantage of the evening desert breeze. Even when it gets warm during the day, fans and a portable swamp cooler keep everything comfortable. Been coming to Santa Fe for over 40 years and never seen it so quiet in the summer - locals say people cancelled because of the fires in June early July. Now the rains have come and it perfect. Also one of the best opera and chamber music seasons we have seen and it is an easy jump onto St Francis drive to go to the opera and a short walk to chamber music and the square. A great visit and great casita!

caution with summer heat

Guest: chernieto (austin)
Date of Stay: 07/03/11 Review Submitted: 07/25/11

We stayed here in July and rented the cottage for 8 nights, although we left after only 5 nights and choose to pay for another location. We where trying to escape the summer heat from Texas. However we made the huge mistake of not checking if the house had air conditioning. It did not. Even though there where 3 fans ( one which needed endless water poured into it) in the house we where unable to cool the house down sufficiently at night to sleep comfortably. MY wife and young daughter slept poorly and where sweating at night and my daughter wanted to go home to be comfortable. She was also scared since both bedrooms are on the street and the sidewalk is only inches from the bedroom windows & there where some loud people at night. The owner pretended he did not understand that we left early ( although we stayed in Santa Fe) because of the uncomfortable conditions. If you don't mind street noise & your not going in the summer- maybe you'll like the place. We did not

Owner response:This guest unfortunately was in Santa Fe during the time of the Los Alamos fire as well as during an unprecedented heatwave which covered most of the southwestern states in early July. Since Santa Fe's elevation is 7000+ ft above sea level, it is extremely rare that temperatures don't cool down during the evening and night hours. I had purchased a portable evaporative cooler earlier in the year in order to provide additional comfort during summer months. The onset of the monsoonal rains in August also tends to drop temps during daytime hours. This is the first and only instance in which a guest has indicated their dissatisfaction with my casita and I feel it was due to general weather conditions prevailing at that time over the Southwest.

A most welcoming little house

Guest: deveren (France)

We arrived from an international flight, completely exhausted, and within minutes were revived by the spirit of this little home. We were delighted to find complete kitchen equipment and a well stocked spice cupboard. The sofa bed is more comfortable than my regular mattress at home. Everything runs very smoothly and George is extremely helpful if you have any questions. We were within a short walk of food shopping, art galleries and restaurants. The home is safe and private, even when out tending the bbq at night! We didn't want to leave, and would certainly return, and recommend it to anyone.

I stayed at this rental from 3/19/11-3/21/11 with two girlfriends celebrating our 40th birthdays. The home was absolutely perfect! It was extremely clean and well-stocked. The location was perfect, within walking distance to the plaza. I can't recommend this home highly enough and would stay here again without hesitation.

Just returned from a Christmas vacation with our daughter in Santa Fe. The Flying Adobe offered us a warm, cozy, and comfortable place to stay. The off street parking was great. The location was awesome – close to everything you would want to see in Santa Fe. Would definitely recommend this lovely little casita to anyone coming to the City Different.

This was our first stay at a VRBO property. We are convinced! The casita was a welcome respite after a long day. Clean, comfortable, welcoming and plenty of room to spread out and make ourselves at home. Had everything we needed and more. Easy walk to the Plaza and Railyard District. Loved the neighborhood and privacy of the little courtyard. We hope to return!
