Chattanooga house description
Montlake is a unique mountain lake formed millions of years ago. It is one of the very few natural lakes in Tennessee. Our Montlake retreat is a very spacious home with about 20 acres of wooded grounds. There are trails around the lake, and there is a waterfall directly across the lake from the terrace.
Montlake has four bedrooms, four baths, living room, library, great room/dining room, kitchen, and laundry room. There are two fireplaces (library and great room) and a large deck above the terrace. It is a long, rambling house, so there is plenty of privacy for everyone. The master bath has a jetted tub and separate shower, as well as a large walk-in closet and a bidet. The other three baths have tub-showers. The laundry room has large capacity (front-loading) washer and dryer.
The views at Montlake are breathtaking.
Here's what our guests have to say:
'Our stay at Montlake was GREAT!!! Your home was so beautiful and comfortable. There was plenty of room for everyone (we had 9 in our group) to relax and do their own thing. The lake was breathtaking, we hiked around the lake, grilled, and enjoyed the sites. The waterfall was beautiful, it had just rained and it was falling very heavily. The location of your home was also great we were just abbout 20-25 minutes to all attractions, Rock City, Ruby Falls and Chattanooga Railroad Station. Thank you for letting us come to your lovely home. I highly recommend this home to anyone. Hope to stay again next year.' --Carol I.
'We have been recommending your house to friends and family!' --Fabienne V.
'Thank you for the use of your lovely home! We had a relaxed, companiable weekend with our friends. Oh--and the view of the lake is breathtaking! Thank you again; you have a lovely, lovely home.
--Linda and John D.

Our week in Chattanooga......
Our week in Chattanooga......
We have just returned from a week long stay in Chattanooga. Upon driving up to this house, we were disappointed to see that the owners live right next to the house. The home itself was very spacious, but is in need of some updating. Everyone views things differently, but in the 4 years we have visited TN, this is the first time we were disappointed with what you got for your money. We have stayed in places that were alot nicer and much more private for less money. The backyard does have a beautiful view. However, it would not be little kid friendly. I have 2 teenagers and I felt that it was not safe to be in the backyard without supervision. There is a cliff to the water below. There is a rod iron fence, but little kids could fall thru that with no problems. The owners did accommodate us in a timely manner with a few things that were not working right in the home. I do want you to know that Chattanooga has some sites you must see. The aquarium, Ruby Falls and Rock City. Rock City is a must, I can't even describe it in words. Downtown they have a great visitor center, which will give you great ideas for what to do in this area. There is a free shuttle downtown. There were a few nice malls and plenty of nice restaurants to eat at in this area. The hiking was really nice, with plenty of adventurous trails. The weather was all-in-all great.

There were four of us who traveled to the Chattanooga area to play golf. We stayed at this property and were very pleased with the accommodations. The house was clean and included all the amenities one would expect. The price was reasonable for the area and the view was spectacular.

Our Tennessee Family Reunion
Our Tennessee Family Reunion
I'd searched long and hard for a place to stay with my family (Mom, sister, adult children and grand children) so we could attend our Tennessee family reunion in Soddy-Daisy. I stumbled across this listing and could not believe my eyes! It just so happened that my Grandparents were Caretakers of this Montlake property for a 10 year (or so) period during the 1970's. I was so excited over my discovery! We traveled from Maryland for our week long stay. We were not disappointed! The house is so roomy and comfortable our large group had more than adequate space. But more than that, it is a beautiful house. My extended Tennessee family congregated, with us, at this Montlake Retreat and reminisced of all the great times we had there, growing up. The grounds surrounding the lake were as wonderful as we remembered. We'd spent many, many hours hiking and discovering as kids and it all came back to us. Now, 40 years later, we have fabulous new memories of our Tennessee family at Montlake. We can't wait to come back!

We had a FABULOUS time at the Montlake home! We came to the area for a family reunion in Chattanooga - there were 9 of us in the home - My husband and I and 4 sons from Charleston, SC - in-laws flew in from Oregon, and sister from Washington State. The home was perfect - lots of room for everyone to spread out - we were very comfortable. The boys were constantly exploring around the lake - every kids dream! We did some sight-seeing at Ruby Falls and visited with family. We spent most of our time outside in the huge backyard patio - it was very peaceful there. In the evenings, we gravitated toward the big 'gathering' table, where we played games, ate, and talked - it was so nice to have a spacious place to visit. The evening before our departure, my son said "Do we have to check-out already? Ohhhh, I don't want to check out, I really like it here!" We really loved our time here and excited for our next reunion. Thank you so much, looking forward to our next stay, The Gass Family, South Carolina

Family Get-Together/ Fun for all
Family Get-Together/ Fun for all
What a great family vacation! Eleven of us came to Montlake ranging in age from 4 yrears old to 68 years old. Everyone found an activity to enjoy, either as a group or divided up. The house at Montlake was spacious and well maintained. The owners helped locate activities. It's location was central to many activieis. Seldom was ut becessary to drive more than 20 minutes to find a fun time. The golf course next door had views just as spectacular as Look Out Mountain. White water rafting on the Ocoee River was exciting, as was hang gliding hight above Look Out Mountain. The youngest ones had an exciting time wall climbing, indoors, while others drove down the mountain a mile to actually climb rock walls.that were a challenge. Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls and the inclined railway were a short drive away and filled a day. There was some rain but the park provided ponchos so our good time wasn't spoiled. Going into Chattanooga itself, we visited the farmers market, the Aquarium, the Children's Discovery Museum, and Hunter Art Museum. The state park at Chickamauga Dam provided a well maintained spot for swimming. The shallow area was well marked so even the youngest knew her limitations. Was there anything we missed? Well, we didn't eat out often as we shared cooking responsibilities at the house. Keeping those expenses down, meant more to spend on activities that we enjoyed. We had a great time together, and as my grandson said, " This is one of the best days of my life."
