ok room, dirty old building under construction

Guest: birthday (California)
Date of Stay: 02/05/11 Review Submitted: 02/16/11

We stayed here 2/5-2/8, 2011. The room was OK basically, tho the electricity kept going on and off in parts of the condo. We were not told, but the whole building is under remodel. The hallway was so dirty and smelly that we had to hold our noses getting to our room. We went and looked on other floors that had already been remodeled, it WILL be nicer some day but NO mention of this issue or any of the following to us before we arrived. We stayed here because of the easy access to the Russian Turkish Baths & pool. But the pool was also under construction and off limits. When we mentioned the pool being closed to the owner upon arrival he said, oh it was supposed to be done, and it will be in about a week, but others working in the building (both at the front desk and the baths) said it was more like a couple months away from completion. The beach access was down another dingy dirty hallway... very embarrassed to invite friends and family here and that was our original intent, ie. lunch by the pool, etc. When we did go to the beach, the remodel contractors were actually sandblasting the back of the the building to redo balconies and it was loud and quite disturbing. Overall if we had to do it over, this is NOT the situation we would choose to deal with, especially when we realized we were not told the truth up front and still charged highest "in season" rate.

Owner response:This review was made on February 2011. In reference to my property, Unit 919 of Castle Beach Club Condominium it says that is Ok. At this time more than one hundred visitors of my studio have been satisfied with the property and with the quality of the service that we give to them. In reference to the building of the Condominium, actually the swimming pool deck, has totally renovated, the cabanas by the pool also. All the halls of the building have been furnished with new carpets, and look totally different. The lobby of the building has a new look with mirrors and chandeliers. We will be very pleased to send new photos with the actual situation of the building.

stayed here a few years ago, owner was super accommodating and friendly. excellent locale, publix is close as are other restaurants and businesses. all the buses headed south take you to lincoln rd in south beach so if you want you can avoid driving and parking . the private beach is beautiful, very quite and clean. it has a bodega downstairs as well as a lovely russian bath. we liked it so much, we're coming back at the end of march.
