"Finiterre," meaning lands end, is precisely where you will be, with no other land mass between you and the continent of Africa.
The majestic Atlantic Ocean takes on a kaleidoscope of colors throughout the day and the sunrises are sheer delight. The house is perched on a bluff 45 feet above the beach. Enjoy 180 degree views from either the upper or lower decks.
Miles of sugary, pink sand beaches stretch in either direction and most of the time your footprints will probably be the only ones you see. Beachwalks during the day are candy for the eye, beachwalks under the moonlight, are magical.
If you can be lulled into contentment by the tumbling surf of the Atlantic ocean, swimming in the crystal clear water, snorkeling with colorful fish, sipping cocktails on the deck, looking for beach treasures that have washed up, then consider Finiterre a small slice of heaven because it is quietly waiting for you to enjoy.
As of February 2005, a new one-bedroom guesthouse (maximum two guests) was completed that is available to rent with Finiterre for an additional $600.00 per week allowing larger groups to vacation together.
The guesthouse has a beautiful view of the ocean, a small kitchen, an air-conditioned bedroom and a bathroom with shower. We do not rent out the guest house as a stand-alone rental so your privacy is assured if you just take Finiterre for groups of 2 or 4. WHAT A GREAT PLACE II

I hate to do this but in reference to the last review, this place was great but I have to comment on a few issues with the owners. 2 weeks before we left I e-mailed the owners asking directions to the house - they never responded. I had to get the direction from the caretakers who live on Eleuthera. Also its been 3 months since we returned from our trip and I have e-mailed and sent letters to the owners multiple times asking to return our security check. I have yet to hear back from them. They did not cash the check so I had to put a stop payment on it . Very unprofessional and I would not deal with them again.

This was our second time to Eleuthera and we will keep coming back. Finiterre has everything you need. It is clean and very well kept. The view is stunning from the back porch. The beach is great, you will be the only one on the beach. I can't say enough about how nice the house is. The caretakers Reta and Andrew take great care of this house. When we return to the island we will be staying at Finiterre.

It’s hard not to sound repetitive this far along in the book, but here it goes. Our group comprised of two 25 year olds on reading week, two 30 year olds with a 2 year old in need of a holiday and tow 65 year olds enjoying their retirement and wondering how their kids could still be needing money for ice cream so many years down the line. Neeedless to say, Finiterre has met all of our various needs, from a well equipped kithcen, incredible maps, bikes, satellite cable to catch the Olympics in Vacouver, to beautiful grounds. Our highlights from our time here include being the only people at Whitelands beach, takeing the bikes down the road for an incredible snorkeling at Gut Island, and being first in line for fresh bread and cilantro pesto at the Island Farm on Friday morning. Thank you Andrew and Reta for your heartfelt hospitality, local lore and coconut 101 course (they were amazing). Our trip has ended but the memories will last. Cheers and thanks again!Tim & Dawn, Dan & Lindsay, Duncan & Janet Allen….CANADA

What a stay! The weather, the house, the view, the beach, the fish, the snorkeling all were magical. We caught several fish right off the beach. Discovered Beach House Restaurant and Tapas Bar on the coast road and went there 5 times. Beautiful setting, great food and friendly staff and cute beach dog named “Patron”! Go exploring if you are adventurous and have a 4 wheel drive. Head down any road not marked as private or with a home name-beautiful beaches and vistas at the end of many. I don’t want to go home.

Goodbye Finiterre! We had a great week here. Explored the island from top to bottom. Really enjoyed Rainbow Bay, Club Med Beach, Preachers Cave beach and Twin Cove. It was comforting to know Andrew and Reta were only a phone call away - lovely people.

With this trip being our first experience of the Bahamas we stayed in Nassau for a few days and then flew out to Eleuthera to stay at Finiterre.I have never experienced anything like the hospitality we received all over the island but we have to give a special mention to Andrew and Reta (the managers). If you are looking for stores, resorts and casinos then you stay in Nassau which is a hybrid of Las Vegas and Puerto Vallarta; but if you are looking for peace and tranquility with the opportunity to create your own adventures and meet the "locals" then Eleuthera is the place for you. The island is long and narrow with Harbour Island at the north, Governor's Harbour in the middle, and Bannertown at the south. Each end provides something different and it makes sense to stay somewhere in the middle. You can't go all the way to Eleuthera and not go site seeing; but once you have been seen all there is to see you will realize that there is nowhere better than the deck at Finiterre. To stay at Finiterre (North Palmetto Point)is to be on a beach where we saw three people in ten days; to sit on the deck and enjoy the million dollar view and read a book; to sit in front of the TV and veg out and still enjoy the view; to go to sleep listening to the ocean; and on and on (sigh). So many places to go and so many things to see but all will be compared to our stay at Finiterre.

We have had a fabulous vacation exploring the island and just plain relaxing. The people were very friendly. Took in 2 softball games - it was the Men’s National Softball & Keith being an umpire was extremely entertained (me too!). Savanah Sound won! We visited the Revival Baptist Church on Sunday. At at 4 Points Restaurant and the food was great. Unfortunately Tippy’s that everyone was talking about was not open. We’ll have to catch it next time. Finiterre is a beautiful home and view is breathtaking especially at night where you can see all the stars. Thanks to Andrew and Reta who were especially thoughtful. We really enjoyed the coconut Andrew. God bless you both and if you every find yourselves in Calgary we’d love to show you around. We saw a praying mantis and I especially liked watching the little lizards - named them Fred, Barney, Wilma, Betty & Pebbles. Make sure you listen to Reita and keep the doors closed in the morning and evening - we did get eaten alive by the no-see-um’s but we survived. Thanks for everything, we won’t soon forget Eleuthera!Sheri & Keith Davies, Calgary Alberta, CanadaPS…watch out for Bert and Ernie - the 2 tarantulas that were on the deck the last night here!

Our first trip to Eleuthera was amazing. Finiterre was the perfect place for our stay as we enjoyed the central location and the fantastic water and beach. The water toys and bicycles were put to good use daily. We loved the kayaks and snorkeling right in front of the house. There was no need to travel far…Finiterre’s beach was among the best. We truly enjoyed Lighthouse Beach (what a ride…take it slow and easy!) and Ten Bay Beach. The waters were too choppy at the other beaches while we were here, but we were truly amazed by the shapr contrast in water at the Glass BridgeThe people of Eleuthera were friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed hearing Muriel Cooper’s stores about her family and travels. Mos importantly we were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet Jeri…thank you so much for letting us stay at yoru h ome. And, Andrew and Reta were the best! They worried about us when the electricity went off and were here immediately whenever we had a need. We are forever grateful to them for making our stay so enjoyable. We’ll miss the rain and thunderstorms, heat and humidity, bumpy roads, power outages. But what we’ll miss the most is the relaxing atmosphere, incredible view, and wonderful hospitality of the people of Eleuthera!. Thanks again for everything!Gary, Patty, & Kevin Denny and Kyle Edwards, Lee’s Summit, MO

This was our first trip to the islands! Wow, the water is incredible; swimming, snorkeling, wading and just watching the fish…..and kayaking! Unfortunately Daniel (age 6) was bitten by some type of bug on our 3rd day here. Eye swelled shut, little Benadryl and after 3 days he was back to normal but it took the wind out of his sails for a few days. He even says that he would be back. Thank you for sharing your home!! Thank you Rita for meeting us when our flight came in late. Thank you Andrew for showing us how to cut up a coconut, yum, yum! God Bless! How can anyone say there’s no God when you see the water, the fish and creaturs all around. We had such a relaxing time. Only one creature in the house, a tiny crab and Andrew took him outside. Watching my last sunset here at FiniterreBut what great memories! The Gibsons, James, Jennifer, Andrew, Daniel -- New Castle, DE

Our first trip to Eleuthera and it was wonderful. Such a beautiful place! The house was perfect! We will return. We hate to leave, but the good news is we extended our stay another 4 days and will relocate to another spot. It won’t be as perfect as this house but we will enjoy the island. We had a great time. Andrew and Rita are such lovely people. Dennis and Stella Fouche, Tallahassee, Florida
