A fifteen-minute walk takes you to Oak Creek, and a small hike directly behind the house puts you atop of a 225-foot red rock bluff where you'll capture unbelievable views.
This contemporary home has simple elegance with excellent flow, having been designed in consultation with feng shui master Valmai Howe Elkins. Completed in 2006, it won the "People's Choice" for best house on the Sedona Art and Architecture Tour that year.
The entire house has great natural light, no matter what time of year you stay. Winter sunlight streams through southern windows, and summer patios are shaded and cool with natural ventilation. This is a green passive solar home built with ultra low voc materials, and also features ample conventional heating/cooling systems.
Downstairs you'll enjoy an open plan living room/dining room with 12-foot high ceilings and a wood burning fireplace. A gorgeous modern kitchen features all stainless steel appliances and stone countertops, as well as a separate bar and wine refrigerator. Throughout this main living area you'll find in-floor radiant heating, engineered maple hardwood floors, hand-made wool rugs, Italian leather sofas and HD satellite video. There's also a guest room downstairs with full bath, perfect for the visitor who requires additional privacy.
Upstairs you'll have your pick of two large master suites. Each comes with its own large deck, queen size bed, full bathroom and walk-in closet. Sedona Cliff House - Contemporary Elegance
Year Purchased: 2006
Why the Owner Chose Sedona
Sedona is an astonishingly beautiful place to be. Living here is akin to camping in nature where wildlife and nature abound, yet with most of the amenities I enjoy such as good restaurants, supermarkets and coffee houses. Sedona is truly a spectacular place.
The Unique Benefits at this House
This property is located in a special area of Sedona along Red Rock Loop Road. Originally this was one of the first areas to be homesteaded and farmed in the 1800's. Today there is a delightful mix of luxury homes among farms and working ranches. Nearby, the creek rolls through the red rocks providing a rich contrast between the lush green pastures and dramatic red rocks. Excellent hiking trails out the door take you to high ridgetops with views of Cathedral Rock, Thunder Mountain and the vast National forest. Cool off with a dip in the creek and explore its natural beauty.
Public park and creek access. Great views of Cathedral Rock and lots of major hiking trails.
Situated along Oak Creek, this is a significant riparian area, a favorite among bird watchers.
Most of the land surrounding the house is located in the National Forest, Red Rock Ranger district.
Downtown West Sedona is approximately 3.5 miles from the house. The drive to town takes you through some of the most picturesque red rock formations in Sedona.
Oak creek meanders through this area. Closest access is 2 blocks from the house.
Owner's Map of Sedona
Hi, my name is Glendon and I have been a resident of Sedona for 13 years. Having lived in many places in my life, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and internationally, I can truly say that Sedona is a unique and magical place. So when I discovered this amazing five-acre property, complete with its own gigantic red rock, I knew this was the place to build my dream house. I currently reside next door to the house with my two chocolate labradors, Charlie and Coko. I am an artist specializing in creating high-end functional art and sculptures. I enjoy hiking and running the trails in and around Sedona.

This home is at an ideal location. It is close to Red Rock State Park, Crescent Moon Picnic area, and directly adjacent to Coconino National Forest land. Scheurman Mountain (the back yard) has several established trails; an easy 2 hour hike along the upper and lower Pyramid Mountain trails can take you from the house, up 800 feet over Schuerman’s eastern peak to the High School, and back home on a gently rolling trail bordered by exotic cacti and with amazing views of the Sedona scenery. My wife and I did this trip several mornings as a warm up to visiting some of the area’s popular trails later in the day. Inside the rooms are spacious and sparsely furnished. Amenities’ include a gourmet’s kitchen with high countertops, several large decks and oversized picture windows. Looking out, you are surrounded by the site’s natural beauty; a red rock cliff face in the back and the Oak Creek valley in the front. The owner is friendly and helpful. I recommend this to anyone lucky enough to vacation in Sedona.

Just came back from a wonderful weekend in Sedona with my two sisters. We stayed at the beautiful Cliff House. The views were spectacular and we truly appreciated the peacefulness and uniqueness of this property. I wish we could have stayed longer. Glendon is very helpful and the care and pride that he takes in this home are quite evident. I would definitely go back.

I am called to Sedona every few years. This year it was for a reunion with 4 dear friends (we all met in junior high school) +one flexible husband, and my nephew from Phoenix joined us for 33 hours. Discovering this gorgeous Cliff House last winter spoiled me forever. It spoiled us all. We all want to return to this magnificent home. Glendon's descriptions and pictures in this VRBO post are spot on. What you see is what you get and it is inspirational. He designed and built the home, studio and some of the artistic furniture. He is also the perfect host. Upon entering the house you are struck by the spectacular red rock views visible through the surrounding windows. There is tranquility within and around this home beyond description. We loved being able to walk out any door and hit the hiking trails just a few feet away. We also loved cooking together in the contemporary kitchen and eating on the porch. Wine at sunset on the upper deck was exquisite. Gathering around the warm crackling outdoor fire pit on a starry starry night, a now and then wet cold-nose kiss from the resident chocolate Labradors, breathing fresh crisp air, takes you right to precious moments of presence...moment of now.

Driving the Red Rock Loop Road to the house is gorgeous, then you arrive and realize you are actually going to be living on one of the red rocks... The view from every window is amazing and each of the multiple decks suits a different mood and time of day. Watched the moon set over the rocks from the master bedroom and then watched shooting stars. Close to everything we wanted to see, but felt like we were miles away from everything - and every trip back and forth to the house on the Red Rock Loop Road was spectacular. Perfect house for a romantic getaway - very private and quiet, but Glendon was always available to answer questions about good restaurants and site-seeing. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Sedona after staying here! (For birders, watch the white-throated swifts that live at the top of the rock behind the house at dawn and dusk...)

I had the joy of watching sunsets, snowfalls and stars from this amazing home. The photos do not capture the true beauty of this home or its location. The light plays over the cliffs and across the rooms all through the day, changing the view and the feel of the place. It gently wakened me in the morning and lulled me to a restful sleep at night. The trails and vistas around the home were perfect and now are some of my favorite in the Sedona area. The home is a blend of just enough spaciousness to capture the feel of the desert, any yet you could still feel the warmth of a true home. I loved the clean lines throughout the home and the lack of clutter – it helped me to “clean out” all the stress and "clutter" that I had brought with me. Glendon is a perfect host, you can feel his love for the place and his pups just made me smile every time I saw their “happy tails”. He is available when you need him to be and unobtrusive when you are just enjoying your time. His connection to the place enables him to offer views or places that you may not find on your own and I appreciated seeing some of the special parts of the area through his eyes. I have stayed at many villas and homes around the world and this one was truly one of the best and is certainly the best accommodation (by far) that you will find in the Sedona area. I have been to Sedona quite a few times and stayed at most of the high end resorts which simply do not compare. The only drawback is that I don’t think I can ever go back to Sedona and be happy staying anywere else!! I'll be back Glendon - see you soon!!

Simply magnificent! My wife, 10 year old daughter, and I recently had the privilege of spending a week at Glendon's house. We've been to Sedona several times and have rented houses before; while these other houses were nice, there really is no comparison (and they were more expensive). If we are ever able to go back to Sedona there is no doubt that we would love to stay here again. The house is gorgeous, in wonderful condition, and in a great location off of Lower Red Rock Loop Road. While the pictures on the website are nice, they don't quite capture how beautiful, elegant, spacious, and comfortable the house is. It belongs in the pages of Architectural Digest. There are a host of terrific hiking trails right off of the edge of the property. Glendon also graciously led us up to the top of the bluff behind the house, a very doable 20 minute climb that offers as a reward spectacular views of the red rocks. If you stay here you really need to try to do this hike! Glendon is a delightful host, very helpful with lots of good suggestions, while at the same time respecting our privacy. His two chocolate labs (Coco and Charlie) are utterly charming. We so enjoyed the house and the setting we ended up eating all of our dinners here, meals on the deck were very special. Our advice is simple -- if you are going to Sedona, and are looking to rent a home, stay here -

My wife and i just returned from visiting Glendon's home from a celebration of my 50th birthday. As a builder myself, i immediately recognized the incredible attention to detail of every facet of this comfortable, sleek contemporary dream home. As mentioned in other reviews, the views and location of the property are perfect. Great light everywhere in the house and every amenity you could ask for from flat screen hd tv to ipod imputs on stereo, firepit, hard line fueled large bbq grill, outdoor tub, many decks & patios, comfortable beds, etc, etc. Glendon built not only the house but almost all of the furniture down to the hangers in the front closet - amazing. Great time and the house is big enough for three couples with three full bedrooms each with their own private bathroom. You will fall in love with this house and this place. We will never forget it..

I stayed here with my husband, 8 year old son an mother for 5 nights and wished it could have been longer. Both the house and the surrounding environment are stunning. Walking and biking opportunities right from the house are excellent. The view from the cliff behind the house is like every archetypal picture of Sedona you've ever seen all rolled into one. If you feel you must drive somewhere then you'll be spoiled for choice. As others have already said, Glendon is ready with information and guidance if you need it, but if you'd rather be left alone that's fine too. I hope very much we'll be back there next year.
