The Griffin House nests, like its mythological namesake, on a secluded acre and a half on the lofty cliffs that form the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge. The home feels swept up yet stands solidly commanding breathtaking, aerie views, widely acclaimed for spectacular sunsets, osprey and geese fly bys, and bald eagle sightings. Our Garden Suite studio apartment is the lower floor, with private entrance, facing garden and lawn. The ambiance is unequaled!
Our hip, garden level suite provides a special, red leather and leopard lounge ambiance where visitors can find a place of their own amidst fine leather furniture, huge old beams, relaxing warm hues, on exotic leopard carpeting. Add a dining table for two alongside the large TV and lounge the evening away! Our locked off private garden suite includes a sleeping area, nice living room, great furniture, full bathroom, clothing armoire & kitchen. Exits right out to the Epic Lawn, the place for sports, outdoor dining & lounging, providing private time for guests. Glimpse a most intriguing Gorge perspective via the Griffin’s “secret” tunnel, looking West!! You are welcome around the fantastic grounds and invited to enjoy the stunningly located hot tub as our guests.
The downtown area is approximately a three minute drive to historic Hood River boasting great shopping, art galleries, fine cuisine, theater, wine tasting, and coffee/internet cafes. It is a 15 minute walk from there to the spit where the kiteboarders launch, and a 10 minute walk to great fly fishing near the mouth of the Hood River itself. There are four wineries and three brew pubs within five minutes or so of our retreat and several other vineyards with winetasting in the area. By special arrangement, Cathedral Ridge Winery, the closest, will offer a special discount to vacationers or wedding reception hosts!
Mt. Hood Meadows, a winter ski resort, is about 40 minutes south. The historic Timberline Lodge, with year-round glacier skiing is about a 50 minute drive. Lost Lake and Timothy Lake are within a one hour drive and the infamous Mt. St. Helens is about 2 hours to see the most spectacular viewpoint at Johnston Ridge. There are numerous spectacular, scenic routes for road biking and mountain biking with varied trails for all ages/abilities. White water rafting and kayaking is available on both the White Salmon (5 minute drive)and Deshutes River (60 minutes approx). Enjoy numerous options for hiking, windsurfing, and kiteboarding for all levels (The Event Site, The Hook, The Marina, and the Spit are a 3-4 minute drive).
Fine catering, flower delivery, wine tasting, babysitting, party planning are all available at The Griffin House by special arrangement.

Year Purchased: 1986
My '59 Caddy, painted as though a rainbow trout/salmon is a great representation of the Hood River "me", however cannot be printed here due to regulations. Suffice with a shot of me. I came up to windsurf over 20 years ago in it, fell in love with the Gorge, (a local painted it up as "the fish" caddy" and have had a home there ever since! I've owned and renovated a number of them over the years actually, rented them to wonderful residents as my business On The Hood, Inc. grew. In time homes have come and gone with ONE exception!!! The Griffin House in its most spectacular location captured my heart permanently and will always be a family and friends' retreat now shared with a few, special VRBO new friends too! Perhaps THE best hot tub location in the world, shshshsh!
Why the Owner Chose Hood River
I came up here to windsurf the river over 20 years ago, fell in love with the Columbia River Gorge. We have had our wonderful retreat, recently gorgeously remodeled inside and out, as well as numerous rental properties, here in Hood River ever since.

See the live windsurfing/kiting action on the river from our live cameras, imbedded in the cliffs near our big slate patio. The relaxing Garden Suite looks out to the gorgeous lawn, trees, flowers with invitation to enjoy the rest of the property as our guests.
World famous Swell City and the Hatchery are right on the river here, viewed from our perch in the Gorge. The Gorge wineries are amazing and we especially love to recommend Cathedral Ridge Winery, just nearby.
