Nestled within a garden of palm trees and exotic, tropical plants, "La Casita del Mar" is the perfect get-away for a couple looking to get "lost" in Costa Rica. Set right on the beach in Bahia Bellena (also called Tambor Bay), this house offers a cozy retreat for maximum relaxation. When the beauty of Bahia Ballena washes over you, you'll never want to return to civilization.
Your day might consist of waking up, looking out into the gardens and beach, laying in the hammock, reading a book, and having a tasty beverage. A dip in the ocean is, of course, a must, and a walk into Tambor for lunch might be in order. Of course, the restless might spend the afternoon on a round of golf, horseback riding, sailing, para-sailing, sea-fishing, or any of a number of local activities.
A number of restaurants are nearby, a favorite being "La Trattoria," run by a local pair of Italians. Their food is authentic and delicious, and shouldn't be missed. Also nearby are any of a number of Costa Rican restaurants. Typical dishes are the "Casados con chuleta", which is typically has a tasty cut of pork chop or chicken with rice, or "Arroz con camarones" (Rice with Shrimp), which is a Costa Rican take on fried rice. Paired with an Imperial, the beer of Costa Rican, you will be enjoying a life of simple pleasures.

Why the Owner Chose Tambor
We love Tambor for it's unique, "untouched" feel. Unlike most other parts of Costa Rica that have seen tremendous over-development, Tambor remains off the beaten path, offering the same wonderful ocean views and sunsets in a hidden paradise. One of our favorite restaurants is "La Trattoria" where its Italian owners offer delicious Italian cuisine for cheap . . . and it's only a stone's throw down the road -- throw on your flip flops and buon appetito!
Multiple flights in from San Jose daily. A great little flight in a twelve-seater Cessna. :)
Don't miss this little Italian restaurant! It's a short walk "towards town." You'll pass by it when coming from the airport. Bonus: the owners speak English in addition to Italian and Spanish!
"Whale Bay" Great for sailing, swimming, and having fun. And yes, whales do appear here if you come during the right time.
Outside the gated area has a restaurant, swimming pool, a convenience store, and local stores and offices (including the local Century 21).

While growing up in the States, our family always loved to travel. Road-trips, day long or week-long, to trips to Canada and Europe were things my sister and I looked forward to doing with our parents. When the family reunited in Tambor for her incredible wedding, we all fell in love with the beaches, lush landscapes, horseback riding, and "la pura vida" (the good life).
