Teton View Cabin - a Cozy Basecamp for Your Outdoor Adventures

Year Purchased: 2006

Why the Owner Chose Tetonia

Location, location, location! We bought this property because it is centrally located to access some of North America's most spectacular areas including the Teton Valley and the surrounding mountains and National Parks including Yellowstone and the Grand Teton National Park. There are numerous rivers and creeks near the property including the Teton River, the Snake River and Henry's Fork which all offer blue ribbon fly fishing. The property appeals to us as it is located on the "quieter side" of the Tetons. We also enjoy driving the 35 miles and spending the day on the Jackson Hole side with all its activities, restaurants and galleries.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

The privacy of the property and it's spectacular views with the rustic warmth of the cabin makes all its visitors feel relaxed and rejuvenated. The property is located on three acres with an additional common property of 25 acres makes the cabin unique to its area.We have great personal connections to World Cast Anglers and Dry Ridge Outfitters - two of the best local fly fishing and horse pack riding guides in Teton Valley. We love to mountain bike ride or X-country up the nearby road into the Targhee National Forest.

A
Grand Targhee Ski and Summer Resort

Excellent summer and winter activities including hiking and biking and downhill and cross country skiing.

B
Teton River

One of the most scenic rivers in North America is located a few miles from the property. Fly fishing, canoeing, nature watching are all widely enjoyed activities on this beautiful river.

C
North Leigh Creek Road

The North Leigh Creek road which is located next to the property leads up to the Targhee National Forest border and the Grand Teton Crest Trail. Great hiking, camping, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, pack horses and many other activities can be accessed directly off this road.

Owner's Map of Tetonia

We'd rather be skiing! Or just enjoying the outdoors. Summer or Winter, Spring or Fall. Getting away from work and office life is what we live for! And pursuing worldwide active adventures whether skiing, cycling, trail running or fly fishing is what we truly love. Originally we are both from the east coast but have gravitated west and while we still can, we'll pursue our cherished summer and winter active adventures in the less traveled, open spaces of Teton Valley and it's surrounds!

Beautiful & Secluded Cabin!

We stayed in this cabin for one month summer of 2011. We had a wonderful time! The cabin sits next to a national forest with creeks & great hiking! The cabin is secluded & relaxing with amazing views of the Tetons. Jeanette was friendly and wonderful to work with. She made sure we had everything we needed. The cabin was clean & well maintained! We saw wildlife right off the back porch. My husband even caught a glimpse of a black bear. Spectacular!

Tetonia Cabin:

Guest: TR (Spokane Valley,WA. USA)
Date of Stay: 06/12/11 Review Submitted: 07/20/11

My Wife and I rented this cabin six nights in mid June 2011. I am retired and my wife still works as an RN, CGRN, we live in Spokane Valley, WA. I recognized immediately that this Cabin was a skiers Crash Pad after a hard days skiing. I lived in Western Colorado for 25 years and have done a lot of skiing in bygone years. Upon arrival we were greeted by a pile of used damp towels on the bathroom floor which I placed in the laundry room. Not much has been done to upgrade the interior or the outside deck in about 10 years or more. The microwave is 20 years old and if you have a surgically implanted device you better be very careful. I mention this because my wrist watch that has the correct time for 30 cities of the World got zapped out of comission by this microwave and has to be sent back to the manufacturer. There is no place to go for a walk on the property or near by except a gravel road or the deck. As I said before it is just meant to be a "Crash Pad" for weary skiers. It has an excellent view of Grand Teton if you are out on the deck. The window that faces the Big T is disclored between the glass panes so don't bother. I may suggest that if you like to eat toast at breakfast time you better bring your own toaster because there isn't one there. $20.00 in Driggs at the Ace hardware will also correct this. We have travelled all over America and Canada but this was the first time I felt like I was under house arrest. Fortunately, we brought reading material and enjoyed that. We paid for a Cleaning fee but We left the premises cleaner than we found it! The lady we made this deal through had a lot on her plate at that time. Her Son's wedding and a lot of people staying over here and there, which probably was how we came to be staying at this cabin and not at the Lodge/Resort etc. I am 70 years old and very active and anything but sedintary. This property simply has no place to move around in due to the foliage, terrain, etc. BUT, as a skiers Crash Pad it would more than accomodate your needs. High point of the 6 days and nights there would be on day five. My wife was standing on the deck facing Grand Teton and noticed some movement off to her left. She was suprised to see a Bull Moose standing about 30 feet away from her. She let out a scream of surprise and scared the Moose. Off He ran followed by his lady friend. It would make a great honeymoon retreat!

Owner response:This review really came out of left field for me. I am sorry that your trip was as miserable as you described. This is a first for us. Everyone who has rented the cabin in the past has had a thoroughly enjoyable time. We have gone in an added a regular toaster in addition to the toaster oven on site and we have had an repair person check out the microwave and it appears to be in fine working order. I do apologize for the oversight of not drying the last load of clean towels. I feel it as bit unfair that you failed to mention my arrival at 9:00 p.m. to help you figure out how to run the direct tv remote. Happy to hear that your wife was able to see a Moose on the trip as that was one her "bucket list". It might seem like alot of skiing motif, my wife and I were racing skiers and have used some photos in our decor. I will make sure to continue to leave Teton Valley area maps as well as Jackson Hole, dining guides and information on all the parks, in case someone need help in planning their days. In a tough economy, we do not want our visitors to feel as you do. I would offer you a free night if you ever come back which I know you won't. I have also, as I mentioned earlier, taken your suggestions to heart and will make the necessary improvements. Thank you for your comments and hopefully your next vacation will be more to your liking.

We stayed in this cabin with our two kids and friends with their two kids and had a wonderful vacation. The cabin is is perfectly situated to so many fun activities for every level. Our kids absolutely loved the horse back riding and the hiking that is literally out the front door. (We are all beginner horse people). The 15 miles to Grand Targhee provided an easy chairlift up into the higher elevations of the Tetons. Some of us hiked to see the Grand Teton up close and others mountain biked down the fun trails. The cabin is roomy for two couples and our kids. It also has a great deck which provided a very fun atmosphere to have great family BBQ's. My kids even camped on the deck one night to see the unbelievable stars that came out at night. We used Dry Ridge outfitters and World Cast Anglers that the owners have a personal connection to and I can only say that these guides provided some of the most memorable experiences of any vacation we have had. They also work great with kids.We took a day trip to Yellowstone which was amazing. We spent another day in Jackson Hole and hiked in the Grand Teton National Park. Afterward we had a great time in Jackson Hole. The kids loved the Cowboy shootout and the Bar T 5 Covered Wagon Cook Out dinner adventure we went on. The drive time is about 1 hour and it is a beautiful drive. We liked coming back to the Idaho side as it is so much less crowded, more private and most importantly less expensive. We really felt at the end of the vacation that we had only really just begun to explore the area. We can't wait to return in the winter to experience a whole other range of activities. The owners are really helpful in making great suggestions for things to do. If you are looking for a place to just relax and read or paint or just hang out you will have a lovely setting and lots of privacy. We really recommend this cabin.
