Relaxing Ocean Front, Whale Watch, Fish, Golf, Tide Pool
This 2800sf oceanfront home, located on the California coast North of San Francisco and the wine country, offers spectacular ocean views, soothing ocean sounds, awesome sunsets, excellent wave and aquatic viewing and an opportunity to unplug from everyday life.
Flying enthusiasts will enjoy the convenience of the local airstrip, golfers can experience coastal golfing, fishermen can seek adventure with chartered fishing trips, children will enjoy tide pooling and lovers can stroll the long stretches of local beaches.
The golfing enthusiast will enjoy a round of golf on this unique golf course designed by Larry Hughs. This 9 hole, 33 par, 110-slope rating golf course starts at the Community Center at the south end of the run way and surrounds the air strip. The distance between holes ranges between 135 and 477 yards. Views of the ocean and local animal life are just a few distractions you might find while playing a round on this course. Currently this golf course is on the honor system as there is no Pro Shop available. There is a set of clubs at Seadance for an impromptu round of golf.
For pilots wishing to fly their personal aircrafts to Shelter Cove, there is an airstrip for day use. Please see our website for airstrip links.
Fishermen looking for an exciting day on the Pacific currently have local charter boat operations available to help you catch a fish the size you won't need to exaggerate to your friends.
Within a short walk you can tour the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse at the Mal Coombs Park, take the stairs down to search tide pools at low tide, watch Sea Lions at Seal Rock Picnic Area, or watch Abalone divers from the balcony or back yard in the cove directly behind the house.
A short scenic drive through Shelter Cove and you can hunt for shells, the perfect rock, watch the magnificent wave’s crash on rock outcroppings, and walk down the long expanse of Black Sand Beach.

Awesome property! It is above & beyond my best expectations. When I entered the front door the beauty of the view of the ocean & the decor of the home took my breath away. I knew at once that I had found the perfect location for a relaxing & restorative holiday. The accommodations are superior to most found in vacation rentals. You will find books, CD's,games, even golf clubs for your enjoyment. Do bring your own groceries & beverages. There isn't much available in Shelter Cove.& it is expensive. If you don't wish to prepare meals, there is a charming restaurant in walking distance & a grill at the marina. For fishermen it is outstanding location & the harbor also is in walking distance. You can hike for miles from the black beach along the coast. Just enjoying the beauty of the ocean from one of the decks or the patio with a good book was my favorite pastime. I highly recommend Seadance on the Lost Coast at Shelter Cove.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.
Owner response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay at Seadance and Shelter Cove. The view from the house is captivating and instantly relaxing. Since your stay there is a new and lovely stamped/colored concrete patio with rock seating areas and new patio furniture on the ocean front side. I hope you will return to Seadance and post your impression of the improvements. Thank you for your review. The Owner

We've stayed at this house many times over the past five years. I can honestly say I'm so relaxed by the end of my stay I'm actually ready to go back to work. The view of the little cove out the back of the house is enthralling. I find myself wave and wildlife watching for hours. My husband will read which really ends up as a nap. When I need some excitement there is a nice restaurant just a block away that is ocean front as well and they usually have live music. They also have local wines available if you're into finding a new favorite. Black Sand Beach is magnificent. There is black sand to the west and larger rocks to the south. If you are into Geo Caching, there are locations around Shelter Cove. Plus there is hiking along the King Range, charter boats from the marina, and golf right across the street. One of the pictures on the website shows a deer in the back yard; visiting deer have been pretty common when we've stayed here. The house is well appointed and very comfortable. The views are spectacular from inside the house. The owner has a VCR and a huge VHS library as well. If you bring your computer, you'll need dial up service and cell phone reception is hard to get. I've had reception in Shelter Cove in the distant past, but the past few years I can't get a signal. I've heard locals talking about possible cell tower coming. Additionally, stop in Garberville for groceries before you head down the winding road to Shelter Cove. The store there is eclectic as are the people, don't miss this shoping experience. If you need to get away to somplace that is completely relaxing without the fuss of every day life, this house and Shelter Cove should be your destination.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
