St. Remy de Provence townhome description

“...then I go out into the night to paint the stars...”
(Vincent van Gogh in his letter to his beloved brother Theo - September 1888)

The Roman monuments are still here to be be seen in St Remy, together with its winding ancient streets, the house where Nostradamus was born, and the Hospital of St Paul de Mausole where a poor and desperate Dutch artist found refuge for a year from May of 1889.

In this way, it came to be St Remy and Les Alpilles which he spread before us under the blazing sky of “Starry Night”.

Very many things have changed, but the night sky, the sun and the colours of Provence have not, and St Remy is now a charming and bustling small town with interesting shops, a multiplicity of restaurants: and perfectly placed for the sights of Provence.

The Luberon and its lavender fields are to the North, as is Avignon, with the medieval Palais des Papes. The Camargue - with its white horses and black bulls and the walled Crusader city of Aigues Mortes - is to the South. The great Cistercian abbey of Senanque is to the East, and Arles with its Roman amphitheatre and Vincent’s chrome yellow “Cafe Terrace” (still there) is to the West.

Villanova itself is an elegant courtyard development of 15 town houses adjacent to the original Belle Epoque Villa, and a short stroll from the centre of St Remy.

There is private gated parking and a beautiful central courtyard garden.

The house (over 100 square metres) is approached firstly across the garden courtyard and then a small shaded private garden, and offers a tiled open plan ground floor living and dining area.

There is Corbusier and Heals furniture, a downstairs WC, and a well equipped kitchen with Siemens cooker, washer and dryer; a Whirlpool fridge freezer with ice-maker; Alessi and Dualit utensils and a mix of Villeroy & Boch and Williams Sonoma crockery.

Overall style? Once described as “Laurel Canyon meets Provence”.

The first floor (US 'second' floor) offers a large double bedroom with extensive wardrobe space and an adjacent shower room, and a further small(er) double bedroom which can be available (if required) by arrangement.

The house is a great space for just a couple and best suited to (at most) 4/5 people, and the two large bedrooms are the rooms normally made up for guests.

The top floor offers a master suite with oak four post bed, ensuite bathroom, a seating area with sofa and desk, and a private terrace with table and seating and a view to Les Alpilles.

There is air conditioning on all floors, satellite (only free to air) TV, CD/DVD player, iPod/iPhone player and free wifi internet access.

The linens and towels are changed on a weekly basis.

What a delightful property. The townhouse exceeded our expectations as to presentation and location, being only 500 meters approx., from St. Remy Square, and set in a lovely garden. The owner was very helpful with directions to find Villa Nova and it was a delight to find a nice bottle of wine and a basket of grapes for us to enjoy on our arrival. We will have no hesitation in recommending this property and the owner to our friends, family and contacts.

We could not have been more pleased with our selection of this wonderful property. The villa is located in a small gated community with electronic keypad enter and exit to your assigned parking space. Central courtyard with fountain as pictured. The townhouse itself is 3 stories with living and kitchen on ground floor. 2 bedrooms on 2nd Master suite with a sensational balcony with views overlooking the town and surrounding mountains. Wow! All beds are large (queen-size at least) and quite comfortable. The kitchen is full equipped with the exception of a microwave. And washer and dryer are a real plus as well. And as we arrived during the middle of a Provencal heatwave we were sooooo glad we chose this location with real air conditioning. We saw our neighbors suffering the 90 degree heat with just open window and fans. As they say location, location, location. The villa is only a 2 minute walk to an artisan boulangerie for your morning baguette or sweet treat. Just 1 minute beyond that is the town square of St. Remy where there is ALWAYS something going on. We arrived during the celebration of the grape harvest weekend and there was a wine tasting in the central square. The street that rings the town square is full of restaurants, cafes and shop. And many small streets snaking through the center of the ville are also full of lively cafes and shops. You will not go hungry in St. Remy. There is relatively large InterMarché quite close where you can stock up on any groceries, wines, beers, etc. and there is fueling station there as well with a cash lane. Though we had no problems using a chip and pin credit card. We also chose St. Remy de Provence because of it's central location to the surrounding towns usually no more than a 30 minute drive. We visited Arles, Avignon, L'isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Aix en Provence, and Les Baux. All sensational. The villa staff are extremely helpful in getting you started but everything is pretty straightforward and the owner supplies a nice printout of how everything works. And the owner can easily be reached by phone if there is a question the staff cannot answer. Solid Wi-Fi connection as well along with a pretty decent selection of television stations. We also felt very safe in the location -- even walking back from the town center late at night. St. Remy de Provence is a sensational base for any Provencal vacation. You won't be disappointed!

We are concluding a week's stay at this place. My wife, our two boys--5 and 10, and myself had a wonderful stay. The whole experience was easy--from contacting the owner, payment, receiving information to coming here and staying. The property is very with comfortable beds, modern appliances, et al. There were 90+ degree days and the air-conditioning worked perfectly. Quiet in the nights and we slept well. Walk to the village is 5 mins or less, although a bit of traffic needs to be navigated especially with kids. Also, property is gated and very secure. I would say the best place we have rented/stayed at after having done this for a good two decades. Enjoy!

Our family (two teenage daughters) stayed for a week in June. The house is spacious, very nice, clean, well maintained, and modern. Having a washer and dryer was nice. The location is amazing. Very short walk to the center of St. Remy, which is a pedestrian only district with good shopping and restaurants. There is a wonderful bakery two blocks from the house. Each morning we would get freshly baked goods to eat with the fruit and jams we purchased at the weekly street market. St. Remy is centrally located for most of the places of interest in Provence. We had a great vacation and loved this house.

This lovely townhouse is in the perfect location for exploring all parts of the fabulous world of Provence. Not only is St. Remy centrally located for reaching all the best places to visit, this small town, in itself, is a delight: full of restaurants, shops, events and beautiful little spots. The home is very convenient for walking into town (about 2 blocks) and is located on the manicured grounds of a beautiful estate that has been recently developed into a group of very private townhomes. This home is spacious and very light. All necessary equipment and appliances are provided and the furnishings are comfortable and tasteful. The master suite in particular is spacious and comfortable, with a lovely balcony and spectacular views of the mountains. A bonus is the delightful selection of music CD's the owner has selected for tenants'use. The owner, not incidentally, is a real pleasure to work with: in 15 years of vacation renting in Europe, we've never seen his equal.A very hearty recommendation from us.

Our group of four women spent 4 wonderful days at this lovely townhouse in St. Remy, and none of us wanted to leave! The house is located in a secure courtyard with parking and shares the grounds with a villa that is also being renovated. Updated and well-stocked, the house was light and airy, and the terrace is the perfect spot for a late afternoon glass of wine and some local cheese. The location, a five minute walk to the center of town, is perfect and we enjoyed a morning cappuccino and croissant on the central square near the fountain. St. Remy itself is a charming town, filled with many fine restaurants and shops, and though we missed the Wednesday morning market, there was a smaller one on Sunday with fruits, vegetables, and crafts. St. Remy is centrally located and provided a convenient base for exploring the Luberon and its charming hillside villages - we particularly enjoyed Les Baux, Bonnieux, and the Sunday market at Isle Sur la Sorgue. The owner, Kieran, was easy to work with and thoroughly answered all of our inquiries, as well as provided detailed directions and information for the house. Coming from the US and arriving fairly late, we did experience a minor communication issue with the local management, but it was quickly resolved with a phone call. I would offer one suggestion though - indicate the "check out" time with the house information; we were in the process of packing up when they arrived to prepare the house for the next guests. Everything about this property was absolutely wonderful, and my friends and I will definitely return for a longer stay!

From the initial contact with the owner to the delivery of the key, this was the perfect location in St Remy. We only felt bad that we were only 2 people staying a short 3 nights....this is definitely a place we will return with friends! Located just 5 minutes from town by foot, we enjoyed the croissants just down the street, as well as all that St Remy had to offer. The secure, gated community of a few beautiful little villas also provided a safe and comfortable spot, where we never felt nervous about leaving our things or parking our car. I just can't say enough about how perfect this property is for a couple, a family, or a group of friends.

We spent 5 nights in this townhouse, sharing with another couple. The property has been nicely updated and perfectly suited two couples. The location was excellent, walking distance into beautiful St. Remy and well situated for exploring the area. The owner, Kieren was a pleasure to deal. We would highly recommend this property to anyone.
