I needed a place to hold a going-away party at the beach. Lo and behold, Casa Paradise to the rescue. Gene's staff is friendly and willing to help. Accommodations were good, but do not take Gene lightly when he warns you to bring bug repellent. Perhaps because we went during rainy season (May - November), the little suckers were out in full force! Luckily, w/ the pool (and its adorable table), great company, and libations, the entire group had a great time. Our 6 y/o didn't want to leave! Thanks, Gene, for a wonderful despedida!

Owner response: We are honored you chose Casa Paradise on tropical New Waikiki Island for your going-away party. My entire staff and I enjoyed helping you prepare for your special celebration. A vacation on a tropical island is a brand new experience for most of our guests. And we agree---summertime beach bugs, (the island's original inhabitants), are still around. We are able to keep them out of the 6 bedrooms using window screens. For the outside in our beautiful large tropical garden, I always remind our guests to bring bug repellant. AND...For our guests' comfort, I will add mosquito netting over our several outdoor hammocks, and perhaps add a few more hammocks too. I just learned there is a new water-proof bug repellant available in the U.S. : perfect for use when swimming in our pool, the lagoon, and the Pacific Ocean, five minutes' walk down the dedicated walkway. Edwin reported you and your group were excellent guests. Thank you for respecting the casa. In fact, one member of your group booked more time there--to extend her time at our Island Vacation Home. For me, that is success! We continue to create the perfect tropical island get-away for our guests. You are welcome back, anytime.
A very relaxing trip to the beach!
A very relaxing trip to the beach!
We really enjoyed our visit to Casa Paradise. The home is large and open and the grounds are beautifully maintained and so tropical. Just a short walk from the house is the beach. The weekend was just what we needed to relax! Also, thank you Gene for your kindness in setting everything up!

Great Private Vacation
Great Private Vacation
This is a true vacation home. Everything about the home is great. It is well furnished and plenty of space. We are a family of 14 and we had lots of room. We even had room for weekend quests. We also took a cocker spaniel. He had a great time running on the beach. The kitchen has everything you need. The pool is great for mid-day fun but the beach is best in the morning and evening. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We even had a campfire on the beach a couple of nights and made smores. We have so many great pictures and memories. We also saw sea turtles. We even saw one climb ashore and lay her eggs. On the same island is a sea turtle hatchery that rescues these eggs and then releases the new born turtles. We had the amazing opportunity to release baby sea turtles. Also, the care takers are great. They are kind and thoughtful in their work. They are helpful in every way. The boat taxi service is great as well. They are prompt and helpful with anything you may need. A local grocery store in 15 minutes away and has everything you would need. Enjoy!

Owner response: Great review ! Thank you. I agree with all you have found to make your vacation a wonderful time to remember. You mention MORE advantages than I did. Excellent discernment ! The home truly IS "Casa Paradise." And, I am happy to share my exotic tropical island get-away with you. Please do come again. Clearly, you and I appreciate "the finer things" in life.
Great place. Relaxing. Private. Kid and Grandparent friendly.
Great place. Relaxing. Private. Kid and Grandparent friendly.
Had a amazing 2 weeks there last year. The house is as described, very nice, large and comfortable. Its not 'fancy' but ideal for the gorgeous weather you get in that part of Guatemala. We used the house as a base, it is very easy to get to Antigua for instance from there. Gene the owner was extremely hospitable and helpful, and an excellent communicator. You couldn't really ask for more. Edwin and his wife on site were also very friendly and helpful. We were travelling with a 2 year old and a wheelchair bound 70 year old and the house could accomodate both well. We never had any issues at all. I little bit of an effort taking the wheelchair from the boat, and up a few steps but nothing too tough. The downstairs bedroom and bathroom were a blessing. The beach is very private, and swimming possible for the brave. The sea is tempestuous, and you need to be a good swimmer and respect the power of it, but there is also a very safe bay around the corner where we had young kids playing safely. The pool is lovely. To summarise: Fantastic.... and I am booking again.

My two kids and I wanted some beach time between a busy week of Mayan ruins and Antigua. This is just the place. The house is lovely (basic decorating but clean and outside focused) and in a great location (ie private and tranquil). The owner and his staff are very accomodating. The house is a 4 minute walk down a private path to a virtually empty private beach of black sand. The house is very safe allowing me to let my teens walk around while i stayed in the hammock! Montericco is about one hour away where the kids and i went to see the turtle farm as well as did a mangrove tour (highlight of Guatemala). Casa Paradise is appropriately named. Gene, thank you so much!

Owner response: Thanks for your glowing review. "Spot On" as a Brit might say. Of all the many guests who have enjoyed my beach house, yours is the most detailed and positive response. You also asked me the most questions before you booked the rental. That's a good sign. It told me you are an experienced destination vacationer, and you want all the details before you commit. I always respond with accurate, full information. No surprises. In my many years in business in the U.S. before I retired and bought this lovely property on the Guatemalan Pacific Coast, it was always my practice to give my clients full knowledge of what to expect. And it still is so. I am happy you found the home and it's unique setting to be all I said. Armando the boatman, Edwin our overseer, his wife Siomolia our houskeeper, and Gaby, our manager, were all pleased to serve you. My staff reports that you and your family were excellent, considerate guests. I appreciate that so very much. It was my pleasure to share my vacation beach home with you. You are welcome back anytime.

About the owner: This Retired High Plains Drifter from Wyoming/Montana just couldn't take the dark of winter in the North anymore, so I became a Supercharged Snow Bird (Drifter) and landed in Guatemala, in 2006. Seeking at least 12 hours of daily sunlight, and wanting to shovel no more snow, ever, I headed for Guatemala, the Land of the Rainbow of Colors. Worth it. I spend six months a year in Guatemala. My second home here is my second Paradise. The native people here are friendly and welcoming. Many native cultures still flourish. My old teflon brain resists learning eSpanole', but I get along well with the people here, even if they don't speak English. My Border Collie 'Tinker' travels with me. This landlubber dog was at first terrified of riding the taxi boat to our island home, but he has gotten used to the sea spray, and he looks forward to swimming in the quiet lagoon. We've made good friends here, and I am accepted as a friend who talks kinda funny. Oh well. Edwin, the security guard, is helpful to my guests, and is a patient, quiet man. His wife and child also share the property, in a staff home at the back if the property. Don't get me wrong. I still love my mountain cabin in Montana and spend six summer months above Red Lodge, very near Yellowstone National Park. Tinker loves the freedom of the Montana mountainside, and all the wild critters that live in the Beartooth Mountains, but only in Guatelama can he try to catch a gecko. ( Nope, he's just not quick enough.) In my most humble opinion: Montana and Guatemala are the 'Last Best Places.' Please see Facebook page 'Casa Paradise' for more information.
Why the Owner Chose Monterrico:
I like slightly remote places, --- close enough IN to be convenient. Far enough OUT to be private, secure, and tranquil. This large home on New Waikiki, a Pacific Coastal Island, accessible only by boat----well, it 'sings to me,' I guess. Privacy, security, tranquility. I know absolutely one else in Montana who owns a tropical Pacific Coast Island Beach House. That's remote enough for me. A vacation on a lush tropical island? That's more than a little romantic. The area is a get-away destination for both Guatemalans and visitors from other nations. The location is very convenient to services, even for this landlubber. Moist Sea Air is so soothing and sooo different from the dry, high plains air. A welcome change. While winter winds are shuffeling the snow around in Montana, I regale in the tropical climate and verdant green beauty of Mangrove Country. More Information on Facebook page 'Casa Paradise.'
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Located in the heart of 'The Sailfish Capital of the World,' this unique home offers just about everything any vacationer could desire. For me, an early morning walk on volcanic beach sands with my dog Tinker gets me in the mood for a fresh hot cup of Guatemalan Mountain Grown Coffee, from farms only a few miles away. Activities? Mucho Energy?--try Deep sea Sport Fishing. The quiet type?--Enjoy the safe lagoon and private pool swimming, canoeing, small catch fishing. A little more adventuresome? Consider renting a jet ski, or power boat. The natural Channel offers protected space for excellent water skiing, and net fishing. On the wilder side, the Pacific Ocean affords a safe beach for beginners' surf boarding, (lessons available), and Ocean sailing. The volcanic sands welcome sunbathers on our private beach. Just want to relax and watch the clouds float by? Wile away some hours resting in a hammock strung between two of Casa Paradise's many coconut palm trees. Take your meals on home's lanai, or the 1st floor deck, or the 2nd floor deck, or at the swimming pool's table with submerged seating. There's a Barbeque for brazing your fresh-caught deep sea mahi mahi. Prefer a dinner out? El Capitan Restaurante', an excellent seafood &Guatemalan native food restaurant is just ten minutes away by taxi boat. Their Italian menu items are excellent, too. Ask for a menu in English. Some of the waiter-persons are even learning English ! By car, Monterrico is just 20 minutes away from Iztapa, for more restaurants, tourist shopping, and services.
