Amazing Family vacation

Guest: Kim (Philadelphia)
Date of Stay: 07/31/11 Review Submitted: 10/04/11

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday with his entire family and could not have been more pleased. Everyone was thrilled with the accomodations, the bedrooms were spacious, the dining area/living room area was wonderful for guests of all ages. We especially appreciated the amazing gourmet kitchen; we cooked for an average of 20 people 3 times a day and never felt crowded in either the kitchen or around the table. That kitchen is stocked with everything you need! The location on the sound is breathtaking-we enjoyed a sunset every night on the back patio. It was also a very close walk to the beach (less than 5 minutes). The elevator was a must for my husbands parents and we were so grateful for it. Having our own sound beach with kayaks was great. This was our first trip to OBX and I won't have to look for another house again. We will be back!

Owner response:thanks Kim hope to see you all again!

An Amazing Trip!

Guest: Danielle (Philadelphia, PA)
Date of Stay: 09/18/11 Review Submitted: 09/26/11

We all had an amazing time. The house was perfect for our group and we enjoyed all of the amenities of the house. One of our favorite things to do was take late night swims and enjoy the stars. We watched movies in the theatre and made delicious dinners in their amazing kitchen. With such a large group, it was so nice to have 2 dishwashers. It made clean up a breeze! We had to call the caretaker only once because of an issue with the projector and it was immediately fixed. Even prior to our trip, the homeowner answered all of our questions and was always so polite. We really enjoyed working with him. We would give this house 5 stars, but we had a couple of small issues. They mostly stemmed from the wedding that was held prior to our arrival. There were a ton of flies in the house, trash hidden all over the house and outside (which resulted in fruit flies), and blinds were broken. We understand that this was out of the control of the homeowner. When we arrived at 4 PM the housekeepers were still working hard and trying to have the house perfect for our arrival. We’d defiantly consider coming back and we wouldn’t hold these minor issues against the owner.

Owner response:Hey Guys, thanks for the feedback. there was one heck of a large and fun loving wedding there before you. very sorry about that. we're trying to replace those vertical blinds with curtains this winter so they're not so fragile.

Hurricane Irene Didn't Thwart Us!

Guest: Katie (Washington, DC)
Date of Stay: 08/21/11 Review Submitted: 09/19/11

We had a wonderful trip planned and we were able to enjoy most of it before Hurricane Irene put an wrinkle in our plans. However, we had 4 nights and 5 days in at the house. Everything was wonderful. Tons of space/materials for cooking and great outside space (gated pool/spa) etc. All told, we had a wonderful experience. We had several conversations with the property manager (leaking dishwasher) which were addressed immediately, pre-Hurricane. The plumber even looked at a leaking faucet while he was there. The house is in a great location and we would absolutely stay there again! And we are so happy to know that the house sustained no damage from Hurricane Irene, clearly the house has good karma! Also, extremely pet friendly (if you pay the deposit!).

Owner response:glad you enjoyed and bought trip insurance, thanks!

My vacation

Guest: Mickey (Rice Lake WI)
Date of Stay: 05/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/31/11

My family just returned from a weeks vacation. We found the property to be even better than it looked on the website. We found the location to be perfect; a very short walk to the ocean and the beach on the sound was perfect for 5 children under ten to play on while we relaxed on the dock. The pool was a perfect temp, we had it heated, because of the time of year , and was used whenever we weren't at the beach. We especially loved the kitchen, and found it well equipped for preparing meals with four cooks at a time working in the large space. We also found the house to be very quiet from room to room; the kids never woke anyone up, and they loved the theatre. We definitely recommend this rental to anyone. We can't wait to go back.

Fantastic

Date of Stay: 04/20/11 Review Submitted: 04/28/11

We had a large group of 5 families (10 adults and 9 kids) and sayed 5 nights over Eater weekend and had so much room. Having 5 rooms with King beds was perfect. The house is beautiful and well maintained. Both the owner and caretaker were great, answering questions we had. It is a easy walk to the ocean side. We enjoyed the fishing pier and kayaks! Much time was spent out there crabbing! The pool and hotub were perfect for all of us. Some of our group have never sayed at a large home on vacations and are now sold on it. We all agree we would reccommned this property!

Owner response:glad you enjoyed come back soon!

We had a wonderful stay at West Ridge. The property is just as beautiful as the pictures shown. Our kids had a great time on the sound kayaking and fishing. The view of the sunset is absolutely amazing. We didn't even visit the oceanfront! The theater room was awesome and our dog loved the backyard. A great family vacation!

Owner response:thanks debbie! we're constantly trying to improve, come back soon!

Amazing Memories for Life

Guest: JB (Downingtown, PA)
Date of Stay: 07/01/06 Review Submitted: 04/20/11

We rented this house for our wedding, rehearsal dinner and July 4th family BBQ. It fit the bill then some! Everyone had enough space (and bathrooms). The view was amazing and from the first day we were relaxed. The backyard was perfect for a small wedding and lots of fun! The outside deck and fishing was fantastic. We still talk about the sting ray that was caught!

Owner response:cool thanks!

40142 REVIEW

Guest: Sandy (Scottsdale, AZ)
Date of Stay: 09/12/10 Review Submitted: 09/22/10

We had the opposite experience as the above visitor. The house was quite dirty when we arrived--crumbs on table and in drawers, greasy children's hand prints on mirrors and doors, dirty carpets .I could type a long list. Light bulbs were burned out, bedroom tv remote controls did not work, there were no hangers or waste baskets. Towels had seen better days. Store room smelled of what seemed to be caustic chemicals. Not up to par with other VRBO rentals we had used. Locaton good, yard and water front great and gathering space is pleasant. Needs an overhaul and some upgrades.

Owner response:Folks, please take in to account our caretaker's experience with this large group of women from the west coast... "they at first couldn't figure out how to get the key out of the world's simplest lock-box, they needed help with such simple items as opening blinds, working a dvd player, moving a high chair, etc. there were hangers, maybe not enough for them, there was a wastebasket in every bathroom, they apparently needed one in every bedroom to as the attached bathroom's can was maybe to far. nobody said anything about any remotes not working. they were easily the most unpleasant group i have come across, trying to find as many things possible to complain about. they were so miserable i didn't want to go back to replace the microwave bulb (the only bulb out in the hosue). They kept calling me about the pool heater not working but it was at 84, so i bumped it up to 86 (its highest setting), the next day they called back saying the same thing, but it was still at 86. apparently they didn't realize that when the outside temps go from cool to hot the 86 pool water doesn't feel as warm anymore." btw -what were you doing in our store room? yes, there is paint, stain, chemicals etc in there, that's what a store room is for...

Great location, great house, wonderful week!

Guest: Heidi Norris (Ohio)
Date of Stay: 06/13/10 Review Submitted: 07/29/10

This house is just as wonderful as it appears, if not more so. It was a nice distance from the beach, a short 7 minute walk, and felt very private. We had 24 people in our group but it never felt even remotely crowded. The house and yard are so spacious you could almost forget that there are even any other people around. The house was immaculately clean when we arrived, looked fresh and clean and smelled fresh and clean as well. The pool, hot tub and yard were well kept and were even maintained mid-week while we were there. The only thing that could have made this place any better, and this is minor, would have been if there were some sort of paper upon entering that told some of the specifics about trash management (i.e. pick up day and recycling information) as well as a note about the fact that someone would be coming to do the pool and the yard. All in all, this was the perfect vacation.
