Why stay in a condominium when you can have your private beach house with pool and heated spa? This house, owned by author Julie Compton and her husband Rick, is located in Daytona Beach Shores, close enough (5 minutes) to the heart of Daytona to enjoy all of the attractions, yet far enough to escape the crowds. You can walk to the beach, a mere block and a half away, or drive your car right onto the sand if you prefer. A park with a playground, tennis court, and fitness trail is at the end of the street, and a block away on the river side is the perfect spot to watch the sunsets.

The house is close to everything the area has to offer: the beach, the river, a water park, Daytona Beach Pier, Daytona International Speedway, miniature golf, shopping, restaurants, turtle sanctuary, Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, and much more. For those who can't imagine Florida without Disney, the house is only a short drive (60-75 minutes) from Orlando and all of its numerous attractions: Disney World, Universal Studios, Seaworld, etc. The Kennedy Space Center is less than an hour away, and only 25 minutes away is Blue Springs State Park, where you can see the manatees.

The house itself is adorable, bright and clean. It has four bedrooms: three with queen beds, and one with a twin and pop-up trundle (which can be used as two twins, or put together to make a king). The fourth bedroom and second bath is in a separate building, perfect for a bit of extra privacy. The pool has a heated spa* and an outdoor shower - perfect to relax in after a day at the beach.

Life's a Beach - Private Beach House with Pool

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Private Homes

The house is a short drive from the Daytona International Speedway, for which -- in addition to the wide, soft sandy beaches -- Daytona is famous. It's conveniently located for vacationers who come for the Daytona 500 Race, or for the many bikers who arrive for Bike Week in the spring or Biketoberfest in the fall. Two blocks to the east is the beach; a block to the west is the river, with its magnificent sunsets. A few miles north of the house is the Daytona Pier and Main Street; a few miles south is the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse and a turtle sanctuary. The numerous Orlando attractions are close enough for vacationers to visit on day trips.

The Comptons chose to buy a house in Daytona because it is one of the closest beaches to their permanent home near Orlando, and they also have many wonderful memories of it from their college days, when they were "spring breakers" themselves!

The Unique Benefits at this House

There's nothing like coming home from a day at the beach to your own private spot with pool and spa . . .

A
Publix Grocery Store

Conveniently located, within walking distance of house

B
Park and Playground

Tennis court, playground, basketball nets, playing field, fitness trail, picnic benches, barbecue grills, etc.

Owner's Map of Private Homes

Julie and Rick Compton are native Midwesterners, but since leaving the heartland they've lived in various spots along the East coast. Though for years they traveled to Florida for vacations, it wasn't until Rick accepted a job near Orlando that they became regular beachcombers. After a number of Saturdays at the beach where they bemoaned the drive home and wished they had a place nearer the ocean to call their own, they took the plunge and decided to buy a beach getaway. They bought the beach house in the spring of 2005, and Julie spent several months painting and decorating as the pool was built. The first rental was in the fall of that same year. As an author, Julie spends many days at the house writing, and the whole family uses the house for vacations throughout the year. They hope guests get as much enjoyment from being there as they do!

Great Time in this lovely home!

My family and I recently stayed at "Life's a Beach". Julie was very accomodating (on short notice) and everything was handled quickly and professionally while arranging my stay. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely space: very clean and so comfy. Everything we had hoped for. The house is close to the beach and the pool and spa were great too. Julie had left us a personal note and a few surprises that started our stay off on the perfect note, and we sailed through the week in the same way. Perfect. I hope to return in the future and hope you have as much fun as we did! Enjoy! Don't miss the lighthouse but be prepared for the over 200 step climb, the view is worth it and minutes from your door.

2011 Biketoberfest

What a wonderful time we had. My husband and I traveled with three other couples to Biketoberfest and lucky enough to have found this property on VRBO. We had a great time relaxing by the pool and enjoyed the spa too! There was plenty of room for all 8 of us. We spent most of our time by the pool if we weren't out riding. We look forward to another vacation or bike event, any reason to come back.

More than we expected - the pictures are great, but you really need to be there to experience the atmosphere!! The house is perfect, clean and neat. The backyard area with pool and jacuzzi are so inviting! We had dinner every evening at the table outside . . .the neighborhood is perfect - walk to beach, river, shopping and park (complete with walking trail, CLEAN bathrooms, play area and exercise area) . .cannot wait to go back!

We had a great time at the beach house. We walked in with our suitcases and had everything else we needed to enjoy our visit. The beach was just across the street and was quite deserted while we were there. The shed in the back had everything we needed to enjoy the beach (the umbrella, beach chairs, and cooler we extremely helpful) The pool was extremely nice to have especially at night. The hot tub was being serviced while we were there, but the pool was the perfect temperature without any additional heat. They provided a binder with several different restaurant suggestions that was very helpful. Our vacation was perfect and we can't wait to come back!!!!

Great family getaway

Guest: Karen (Central IL)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 02/04/11

We stayed at this home in July 2010 with our teenage daughters. It is conveniently located near the beach on a quiet street. You could walk to the beach - about 2 blocks. But we drove and parked on the beach - convenient for all the beach chairs, towels and cooler. The house is very clean and well equipped. We enjoyed BBQing by the pool as the girls swam. We have never rented a house before and were leery of doing so. Julie made this all very professional and easy! Well worth the money. We would definitely rent this house again. For those considering this property: the second bathroom/4th bedroom and washer/dryer are in the pool house with is directly behind the carport. There are plenty of beach towels, beach toys, and kitchen utensils. Check out the pantry before you go to the store as many people leave behind unused items such as condiments, foil, baggies and canned goods. I can't say enough good things about this house. Check it out for yourself.

Spring Break

Guest: Rae (Moore SC)
Date of Stay: 04/25/10 Review Submitted: 08/19/10

We took 7 high school seniors for their last high school spring break! Had a blast. They stayed in the house and my husband and I stayed in the detached bedroom! Worked out wonderfully~ they could stay up as long as the wanted! The pool area is adorable. I loved hearing the pool waterfall from my bedroom. Since it was April and still a little cool, the fence kept out the wind. The sunbathers loved that!

sshhh!! this one is a best kept secret

Date of Stay: 04/03/10 Review Submitted: 04/28/10

my family, my sister and her son, and our parents stayed at Julie's adorable house for Spring Break this year. We had the best time. The area, Daytona Beach Shores, is perfect for a family looking for a peaceful vacation without the noise and crowds and at the same time there is so much to do all within a 10 - 15 minute drive. The house was an absolute pleasure to stay at. The mother-in-law suite was perfect for our parents to be with us but have their own 'space'. The house was stocked with all the imenities we could think of. Julie has a wonderful cleaning crew who ensure you find the place in perfect condition upon your arrival. The house is in fairly close walking distance to the beach, maybe 2 blocks and across the street. My favorite part of the whole experience was the pool and hot tub. The kids loved the pool, we actually spent more time at the house in the pool than at the beach. My parents loved spending evenings in the hot tub. Overall, I would rate Ms. Julie's house as one of, if not the top, our best family getaways. We plan to return both as a family and seperately with out own families. Thank you so much Julie for sharing your awesome home with us.
