"This was our second stay at Kingfisher…and since our first stay in 2013, we didn't even bother searching for another place. There are lots of great places on Galiano but Kingfisher's Perch has so much going for it: 1. There actually are Kingfishers flying around it all day; 2. we watched a resident otter, right from the deck; 3. the high tide line is literally 30 feet from the deck; 4. the sun sets straight down Whaler Bay, in line with the deck for most of July and August; 5. It's really close to everything - 3 minute walk to ferry, 1 minute walk to "town" - yet is set in a dense grove of cedars and arbutus, which hide the cottage away from such traffic as there is on Galiano (almost none on the weekdays); 6. the cabin and deck are the perfect size for a 2 - 5 person family for dining, food prep, lounging and sleeping…one might even choose to sleep right on the deck on those many perfect nights; 7. cottage stays cool, even on really hot days…and catches even the slightest breezes off of the little bay; 8. we had resident deer on the property, frequently surprising each other; 9. the cottage has everything necessary for cooking…a good library of movies and books, and lots of board games. I can't think of a single deficiency.
My wife was recovering from foot surgery, so the cottage location so close to cafes, laundry, restaurants and groceries was great for her.
I'm a cyclist, so everything on the island is pretty close. I biked the whole length of the island (about 35kms each way) on both sides of the island, and checked out the many unique natural areas, beaches and swamps, that Galiano is known for. There are some remarkable natural beaches: Cain Beach is only about 1 km away from the cottage and has a great tidal zone to explore as well as a lovely sandy section to swim from. Cable Bay and Pebble Beach are lovely and little visited sites about halfway up the eastside of the island. And Montague Parks white shell beach is a classic.
If you stay at Kingfisher…don't forget to just sit on the deck and watch the stars at night, and drink in the absolute silence that envelopes Galiano after the last ferry leaves."

"Two penguins is exactly as described but even better. The location is perfect, private, swimming is great as there's no seaweed. The house itself is really well done, comfortable and has all the amenities we needed for our ladies weekend. Joanne is also very nice to deal with and reponsive. We will definitely stay here again!"

"We stayed for a long weekend, our group had 4 adults and 3 kids. This was the perfect spot!
We all spent hours on the gorgeous sandy beach, just a few steps in front of the house. The water was warm enough for the little ones to swim and we even spotted seals, bald eagles and many many star fish.
The spacious yard overlooks the ocean as well and offers an amazing view of mount baker. The kids had tons of space to run around.
The house was spacious and relaxing, we felt right at home. The kitchen is well stocked and so easy to cook in. We loved the views from the kitchen, dining room, and living room
Each of the 3 bedrooms has its own bathroom which was a huge bonus
Our host, Libby, was friendly and accommodating ensuring we had the best possible stay.
We couldn't have had a better experience. Can't wait to come back!"

"Looking out the living room picture-window, beyond the large veranda, through the treetops of the downward sloping forest of arbutus and fir trees, just carved out enough to get a clear, splendidly framed view of water, islands, distant mountains, to the flutter-buzz of a hummingbird, the same, one is sure, that visited us at breakfast. So you step out onto the veranda to mutter a "hello"' softly, not to frighten him away. The sun, too, steps out from behind the clouds where it had been hiding for the past half-minute and the veranda is bathed in gold. True. Fantastic. Great."
