Thyme & Tide offers privacy and quiet without being remote.
About Jim Russo
Originally from the Boston area Susie and Jim have enjoyed Butter Pt since 2000. Used mostly as a vacation get-away until Jim retired in 2017, we stayed in the guest house until two years ago when we finally finished the main house next door. We've lived and worked in Texas, Michigan, Tennessee and overseas in The Netherlands, Portugal, France, and China. The guest house has several memento's from these travels.
Jim Russo purchased this Guest House in 2000
Why Jim Russo chose Waldoboro
It's our family retreat. Since we bought the property and built the guest house our two children have graduated college, married, and now have 6 kids between them ranging in age from 4 to 12. All of them look forward to their time in Maine, in the summer or at Christmas or whenever they need time away from their busy lives. The location is special. Quintessential Maine with a focus on waterfront.
What makes this Guest House unique
We describe our property as remote without being isolated and isolated without being remote. At the end of a private road (with only an island accessible by a low tide "bar" beyond us) we only have one neighbor. The opposite side of Butter Pt Rd is conservation land. Very quiet, private, and dark at night to enjoy the Milky Way and satellites passing overhead. But nearby is everything we need including shops and stores in Waldoboro, Damariscotta, Rockland, and Camden. There is an Audubon preserve one mile away on Dutch Neck Rd as well as a Land Trust hiking path to the local fresh water swimming hole, Peter's Pond. Lots to do, or just relax and do nothing at all but enjoy the quiet and watch the boats on the bay from the swing on the lower deck. Everyone that visits spends time in that swing.

5 Star Stay at Waldoboro
The property was immaculately presented, and accurately depicted by the photos. My wife and I had a wonderful stay, and Jim and Suzie were really helpful , but unobtrusive hosts.
We mixed up the stay by chilling out some days whilst traveling others. There were some great walks and the kayaking off the pontoon was a highlight. We saw two seals herding fish before they caught them as they jumped out of the water. We saw bald eagles and osprey. Another highlight was when Jim ordered lobster from the local fisherman who delivered it to the dock. Jim them showed us how to cook and prepare them perfectly.
I would totally recommend this property, :-)
Gerhard and Deborah were perfect guests. We hope they come back before they return to Australia.
Heaven on earth!
Jim and Susie's property was gorgeous! Spacious, peaceful and everything you expect from a home away from home. They were busy around the house, but gave us space to come and go without questions. When asked, they offered advice about locations to eat or visit. Exceptional home and furnishings. REALLY enjoyed this property. We'll talk about this for years to come!
A true home away for home!
We are a family of 5 from Michigan and spent a 3 day week-end in Waldoboro at Jim and Susie’s house. Our hosts did a fantastic job to make us feel welcomed. We had a great time! The house is very well maintained and is well equipped. We really enjoyed the peacefulness of the place. We also enjoyed visiting the area (especially Camden). The schooner tour on the bay is a must. The area is really beautiful and has so much to offer. We will definitely come back one day!
Beautiful, Peaceful and Comfortable
Had a great time staying at the Thyme and Tide. Jim and Susie were very welcoming and helpful. The house is spacious, has anything you could need and gorgeous.
We came up for Pumpkin Fest and didn’t expect the cool nights (I think it dipped in to the 30’s) but the house was cozy and warm. The house is in a great location for trips to the North, Rockland and Camden or South Damariscotta and Pemaquid.
We enjoyed the water views and even went down to the dock one night to look at the stars! Wonderful trip, thank you!
Waldoboro's Waterside Wonder
Not one thing could have been more perfect about this property: impeccably maintained grounds and gardens, enormously generous, affable hosts (I want to be Jim when I grow up!), a breathtaking view of the Medomak to enjoy from the deck with morning coffee. And while this property is secluded and private, the idyllic swimming hole is just a short bike ride down the quiet gravel road, and the busy fun and shopping of Damriscotta, or quaint village fun in Round Pond just a few minutes away.
Every detail of the house has been considered, with cherry floors, top end appliances and appointments - but none of it ostentatious or precious. Good taste, accommodation and comfort at every turn. Even quality mattresses, pillows and linens! Cannot wait to return!
We greatly enjoyed having this family as guests and welcome them back anytime. They were thoughtful, considerate, and wonderfully generous neighbors for the two weeks we spent together. Looking forward to seeing them again.
A little slice of heaven
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Thyme and Tide guest house. Jim and Susie were such amazing hosts and the house was everything the pictures and description said and more.
We had the perfect place to relax on the days we just wanted to hang out at the house and float in the tubes or go for a quick kayak ride - and the perfect launch point for some other adventures through Maine.
I borrowed the review title from a comment in their guestbook that I felt was just the perfect way to describe the guest house. We truly didn't want to leave.
It was a pleasure having the Martinez family stay in our guest house. Considerate, quiet, active, and a pleasure to talk to. We would have them back anytime.
