About Dean and Cathy Chenault
Greetings! We are Dean and Cathy Chenault, the blessed owners of Bay Views, on the quaint island village of Gwynn. We both grew up in Virginia and currently reside in Powhatan where we operate an adult home for the elderly. Cathy is a RN graduate from MCV. Dean graduated from Vanguard University in SoCal with a degree in business and manages the affairs for our business and home.
Dean and Cathy Chenault purchased this House in 2012
Why Dean and Cathy Chenault chose Gwynn
We sailed our Gloucester 19 with our sons and dog for years at Queen's Creek Marina on the Piankatank River. We always dreamed of owning a piece of island life for ourselves and just made it happen in 2012. Little did we realize, Dean's childhood friend purchased his home around the corner that same month! Great minds!
What makes this House unique
We fell in love with our island home upon entering the front door the first time. Water views were everywhere you looked. We love the corner property and the second story deck for observing water life, enjoying a meal, or relaxing in the sun. The propane fireplace on the sun room is great for cool evenings or throw wide the glass doors for that island breeze and to hear the waves lapping the shore. It is like stepping back in time to a quieter small town lifestyle. Your cares lift and your stress melts away.

A little slice of heaven!
We felt at home and comfy here. Comfortable beds, stocked kitchen, lovely furnishings, and more than adequate outdoor space including fire pit, grill, kayaks, bikes and super awesome roof top deck. We had a wonderful time. Plenty of places to bike and the beach was perfect. Hope to return again soon.
So happy we picked this place. We enjoyed the bikes, kayaks, grill, view, picnic table, community beach, rooftop deck. Even sat inside with the doors open and listened to the rain on our last day. The beach was close enough to walk back to the house for lunch or use the bathroom. The house was stocked with bottled waters, toilet paper, and some bathroom items. We would definitely come back!
Awesome view from hidden treasure.
Gwynn's Island and Mathews County were unknown to me even though I was only an hour away, and now I value this hidden treasure. If you are looking for a place for peace and relaxation, a good view of the bay and nature from an actual island, and quaint simplicity with all of the necessities, you should pick this place. The price was right, as was the view and the amenities that come with the place.
My wife and I had the relaxation we were looking for, and even though the weather wasn't ideal for part of our stay, we could still watch the bay from the house while drinking hot chocolate and cooking a meal in the oven. It is better than a hotel because you literally have a whole house and a full kitchen to cook meals and save money part of the time; or you can eat at some of the cool restaurants in the nearby vicinity. Also, it has two bedrooms with a total of 4 beds which is ideal for a family to share. You can ride the two bikes provided with the cottage around the island, walk to the nearby beach and dock, or have fun with the two kayaks also supplied. The people in the area are some of the nicest I have met. Chilling on the roof level deck during the sunset with a beer/wine isn't half bad either. You can also bring your own bikes etc and store them in the spacious shed. Not to mention a charcoal grill and a firepit if you so desire. The wifi was excellent and, for us, necessary to look up local menus and directions to local establishments without killing our data plan. Cell service was also great even though you feel isolated and the satellite TV was also good if you still want to watch a tv show or movie. Gwynn's island comes with its own Pocahontas legend and history lesson at the local museum, if you enjoy history. To sum it up, this property is all about relaxation and getting away from it all, I hope you enjoy it like we did.
It had everything we needed and more!
Loved the view! The fireplace and fire pit were easy to use. Enjoyed the bikes, and the kitchen supplies were ample.
Easy + ample = satisfied stay!
Very nice place
Friendly neighbors. Dog friends. Well appointed place. Has everything you could possibly want. Very comfortable.
Visited Rosewell ruins - interesting.....good spot for picnic.
Isolated - bring supplies. Nice beach.
We welcome you back this fall and look forward to making your stay a five star event.
We loved this property. It was so clean and tidy. The owners had everything we needed for a great stay. They even left dog treats for our fur baby. We will definitely be back when we are back in the area.
Fur babies are always welcome with their human companions!
