Property Summary
Winsford Cottage is one of 6 cottages converted from farm buildings in 1989. Located in the heart of Exmoor within walking distance
across the fields of Wheddon Cross village which has a welcoming pub and shop. Local landmarks include Dunkery Beacon, Dunster medieval village, Tarr Steps and Porlock

Main Description
Winsford Cottage Overview:
Single-storey accommodation for up to 2 guests and 1 dog.
Flexible start dates but we prioritise Friday-Friday bookings during peak season.

Description:
Winsford Cottage offers a charming single-level retreat with east and west-facing views. It's snug and welcoming with a lovely outlook over the grounds  There’s a small, sunny cottage-style garden facing east and south with garden furniture and views across the Little Quarme gardens.

Interior Amenities:
Lounge: Features a comfy sofa and armchair, dining table with 2 chairs (we can provide more if you have guests), a 32″ TV equipped with Freeview and DVD player, a classic stone fireplace with an electric log effect fire, and a radiator.
Kitchen: Fully stocked with modern appliances including a microwave, electric cooker, and fridge with a small freezer compartment. It also has a kettle, toaster and sufficient array of china, cookware, and utensils. We provide tea towels, washing up liquid and a surface cleaner for your convenience.
Bedroom: Is en-suite with a double bed set with crisp cotton bed linens.
Bathroom: Comes with a bath, overhead shower and is equipped with towels and loo rolls. Both the bathroom and bedroom have radiators.

Amenities:
Parking is conveniently located just a short walk away up or down a short flight of steps.
The cottage benefits from gas central heating throughout.
WiFi is available inside the cottage and in the adjacent barn.

Additional Information:
All guests are provided with an online app which gives full information about Little Quarme, optional items that we can provide and recommendations for places to visit, local pubs and restaurants etc.

Outdoor Description
All guests have access to two acres of gardens including a lily pond, lawn with picnic tables, giant BBQ and games room with table tennis, small pool table and table football. In the summer we set up croquet on the lawn and football goals in the field. There is car free access across our fields to the bridleways and footpaths of Exmoor National Park.


Parking
Parking is available on site.

Pets Description
Dogs - We ask that dogs are kept off the furniture (even with a rug) and are not allowed in bedroom please.

Horses – For horses we offer DIY grass keep for £25 per stay (up to a week). Do get in touch to discuss your specific needs.


Restricted mobility
Due to the sloping nature of the site unfortunately we don't recommend Little Quarme for wheelchair users.

Exit in case of emergency
Safety instructions will be provided in our online welcome book sent to you upon booking. If you would like to see a copy of our Fire Risk Assessments please get in touch. Emergency exit is via the front door. In the event that this is inaccessible then there are two ground floor windows in the living area and one in the bedroom which could be used.

The region
Wheddon Cross is a village in the parish of Cutcombe in the heart of Exmoor, based around the crossroads; the roads run from north to south between Minehead and Dulverton, and east to west between Taunton and North Devon. The village is argued to be the highest on Exmoor, standing at 980 feet above sea level, and the highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon (1704 feet above sea level) is the focal point of the village. Dunkery Beacon is about three miles from the village, there are fantastic panoramic views from Dunkery; wild moorland to the west, the Bristol Channel and Wales to the north, the rolling Brendon Hills to the east and the Quarme Valley to the south.

In recent years the village has become famous for the abundance of snowdrops in the nearby valley which has become known as 'Snowdrop Valley'. The snowdrops bloom around February and is often referred to as a "carpet of snowdrops"!

Wheddon Cross is surrounded by beautiful countryside; open moorland, wooded valleys and farmland. An abundance of wildlife can often be seen, including Exmoor ponies and red deer. There are a number of great walks along marked footpaths and bridleways, including the famous Coleridge Way which passes through.

Wheddon Cross is a thriving community and offers many local services for a small village. The village shop is a well-stocked mini-supermarket incorporating a Post Office counter, petrol pumps, cash point machine and has good opening hours. The Rest & Be Thankful Inn is the village pub which serves food and is child and dog friendly. The village also has a first school, church, playing field, public conveniences, and various bus services.

Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 9 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town), high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops, cafes and restaurants, etc throughout the town

Staying at Little Quarme

Had a lovely weekend. Beautiful location. Host Nick was very friendly and helpful. Our little cottage was just the right size for us. Everything worked. Went to local pub for food & they were very friendly. We’d definitely stay there again.
