Central Oregon Getaway! Incredible Lake and Mountain views! Dark Sky Area!
Views to die for in Central Oregon's high desert. Beautiful, rustic (but very nice) cabin/home situated on 20 acres of untouched land, 17 miles S.E. of Prineville. Just up the hill a ways from Oregon's first designated Dark Sky Park. A stargazers delight! Three sides of the property abut undeveloped Bureau of Land Management public forest which allows for unobstructed and amazing views of the Prineville Reservoir, volcanic rock formations, and surrounding mountains as far as the eye can see. Watch eagles, hawks, deer, and other wildlife from the porch just a few steps out your front door. Step out at night and you will be enthralled by the brightness of the stars, planets, and Milky Way Galaxy. This is a wonderful getaway for couples, families, friends, and even business get-togethers. Our cabin features a full kitchen with modern appliances, living room area with fireplace, TV with cable, internet, two full bathrooms, washer/dryer, and garage. The cabin sleeps 8, with a room of 4 bunk beds and two bedrooms with queen-sized beds. All bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom features a patio deck, perfect for morning coffee or tea, night caps, or sunbathing in solitude. Onsite activities include horseshoes with a regulation-sized court, slate pool table, darts, swing, bar-b-que grill and a seasonal fire pit. Relax at the end of your day under the night (or day) sky in the private hot tub just off the porch. You will feel totally secluded. Memories of bright blue skies and fresh clean air will linger long after you've ended your stay. If you are looking for adventure or other outdoor activities to explore, just a mile down the hill is the state park and boat dock. Bike, hike, rock climb, swim, boat, fish, go on spectacular sightseeing expeditions to the Painted Hills or John Day Fossil Beds or just simply stop anywhere in the most incredible surroundings of Oregon's High Desert lands. Prineville is known as the "doorway" to the pine studded Ochoco Mountains, Ochoco National Forest, and the Crooked River National Grassland. There are good restaurants in town, along with some great little antique, home decor, gift, and clothing shops. You will find several spas, coffee shops, and, of course, really nice people. For a taste of Old Prineville, stop in Prineville Menswear on S. Main where "really good stuff' is available. Lunch at Dad's Cafe next door or have a burger at the Tastee Treat on Highway 26, across from Pioneer Park. Pine Theater is just like yesteryear showing current flicks ($8) and concessions for $2 or under. Although this vacation spot isn't about crowds or malls, the trendy (and friendly) city of Bend, with its wonderful shopping district, is an easy drive 35 minutes from Prineville.
Your pet will be welcome with permission from managemnt and acceptance of the Pet Policy. Please communicate the number of pets with your inquiry. Pets are limited to two dogs and the pet fee will be $50 per pet per stay.

Stayed for our 24th anniversary and we loved every bit of it.From the star gazing at night to the sunrises and sunsets to the beautiful views all around and the hot tub a big plus.We got to see Tumalo falls,Painted hills, and we went shopping in bend.It was a wonderful and relaxing trip.
The land, the skies, and the sweeping views are absolutely to die for. The cabin is exceptionally well equipped to complement your outdoor adventures, while also offering a comfortable, fun-filled interior. Whether you’re relaxing and gazing out the windows at the stunning scenery, playing games, shooting pool or darts, or cozying up by the fire, this cabin has it all. This was our second visit, and we only wish we had the freedom to return more often. The property manager, Lorrie, is truly one of the most amazing humans—she represents the wonderful people of Prineville so well. We owe her immense gratitude for turning a horrible mishap on our part into a survivable life event.Thank you to Lorrie and to the current owners for allowing our friends—and our pups—to enjoy this beautiful space and land.
Our vacation was awesome. The house was better than I thought it was going to be. The view was amazing and so quiet. If we ever are back in that area we will definitely stay here again. Thank you for Shari g your house.
Such a beautiful environment. The house, the view, the air. The weather was perfect. The view also includes our own Painted Hills. The dark sky was amazing! It had everything we needed! We will be back. Thank you for sharing your home.
Third time to this amazing property! They’ve even added a big screen TV this year! Great and helpful communication, well outfitted, and very fair price for this home. A view like no other, pics almost can’t do it justice!
Terrific, quiet, unbelievably scenic location that is truly away from it all. Will definitely be back!

Thanks so much for your kind words about the cabin. Please come again!
This spot was an awesome find for our family of 4. It's the perfect combination of accessible, private, comfortable, and well outfitted for relaxation and adventure. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub with gorgeous views of the surrounding reservoir, painted hills, and jagged hilltop rock formations. A lot of time was spent on the perfectly situated deck just reading or rocking in the hammock while taking in the scenery. Internet able to support our movie streaming during down-time was a welcome bonus. The clear star filled nights and nearby rockhounding opportunities were the icing on the cake. Loved it, no notes.
We loved Pete's cabin! The house is just adorable and has everything you could want. We especially enjoyed the solitude and the fantastic views. This is definately the best place we have ever stayed and we plan to come back again.
Came here for an anniversary getaway trip and was perfect! Rustic cabin and very private setting with gorgeous views! We spent alot of time on the front porch that has gorgeous views every time of the day. Great fire pit for bonfires and so peaceful and quiet
Unbeatable view, excellent condition and amenities!
My fiancé, friends and I stayed at this home for an extended weekend and it was simply wonderful! The view was unbeatable, hot tub hot the spot, and the amenities in the kitchen and pool table/darts board were awesome! Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here looking for a quiet and nature-filled retreat. It was a bit far from the closest town (Prineville, OR), but we loved that it was more isolated and on its own piece of land.
The view is so spectacular you will never want to leave, the most peaceful and beautiful place i have ever stayed, wish i would have stayed more than 3 nights. Hot tub, fireplace and breathtaking views what more can you ask for?

Pete's Cabin is amazing! We so enjoyed the quiet beauty and the amazing scent of Juniper in the air! (So many Juniper tree's!) We also got a HUGE rainbow across the sky while we enjoyed the hot tub. This place is incredible.
Our year is not complete without at least one visit to Pete’s Cabin. Life is crazy, loud and stressful-this all melts away in this priceless vacation home. We unplug, unwind, and enjoy taking in the endless beauty. We LOVE Pete’s Cabin!

Family vacation
We had a great time at the cabin. It was very remote and quiet. Loved the fire pit outside, hot tub and the horse shoes. It was a very relaxing and the views were amazing!! The only negative were the beds were not very comfortable. Otherwise the cabin met all of our needs.

Thank you for your kind words about the Cabin. We have recently added new mattresses to the cabin, and of course mattresses are such a personal preference. Firm, soft...etc. We tried to go middle of the road. Most people sleep like babies on them, sorry you did not! Again, Thank you for coming to and taking such wonderful care of the cabin. Please come back!
This was our 3rd year at Pete’s Cabin! We had it all--deer, coyotes, lizards, snow, windstorms, and sunny skies. This home has become a special place for my family to find peace after a stressful year. Thank you for sharing this magical place with us!

About the host
Hosted by lorrie peterson
Mat and Nicole purchased this property in 2017. Mat retired from a private engineering company as a map maker almost 10 yrs ago. He started his own handyman business at the time and retired from his business about a year ago. Mat enjoys using his handyman skills at Pete's Cabin, updating and improving the property, making tables and lamps from juniper wood found in the surrounding area (you will see these items on the porch and throughout the cabin), and just generally enjoying doing the things he loves to do in the beautiful and peaceful surroundings around Pete's Cabin. Nicole grew up in Portland and met Mat when they both worked for the same mapping company in Portland. After they had their 2 girls, Nicole decided to return to school to become a registered nurse. She currently works in Portland. They have two college aged children who live in the Pacific Northwest and two cats who still live at home.
Why they chose this property
It is simply beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. If you are looking for a vacation location to "get away" with beautiful views of Central Oregon, this is your place. Mat enjoys adding fun things to keep you busy while at Petes cabin. For example, hanging a comfy hammock where you can read your books or take a snooze, a trail to our new horseshoe pit, and a swing to just "while away the hours". We also really enjoy exploring the area. Hiking all over, visiting the Painted Hills (there is a sample you can see from the porch! ), kayaking at the reservoir, and exploring nearby towns. The little town of Post, Oregon, just 14 miles from the cabin, is Oregon State's geographic center.
What makes this property unique
Star gazing in the hot tub is simply the best. The sky is amazingly large and the stars and planets are so bright. We love looking at the Milky Way and tracking the constellations as they travel across the night sky. Occasional shooting stars certainly add to the enjoyment.
