Why Owner chose Kerhonkson
This property has been in our family since 1969. When our family bought the Barn it was literally a barn. All the renovations were done by our parents in the 1970s; our father is a carpenter and did all the work himself. We spent summers and weekends at the Barn growing up, and now bring our own children there! Antique stained glass windows have been installed in the lofted second floor, and were all salvaged from brownstones in Harlem and Park Slope in the 1970s and the huge fireplace was hand built by a local artist.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have been renting Blackberry Barn to guests on a short term basis for 3 years now and many people have made the Barn a part of their own traditions. We welcome you to come spend some time at the barn! Its a special spot and we are sure you'll leave relaxed and rejuvenated!

We all had a great time at the barn. Very, very rustic. Great collection of LPs and VHS movies. Best part -- no wifi means unplugging from the hysteria of world events. Like a time machine back to the 80s.
Black Berry Barn Stay 8/30
What a great place, it really was magical. 7 acres of land, a pond, full kitchen, amazing records with surround sound throughout the house, amazing selection of VHS tapes and an easy drive from Manhattan. Stores are right near the location, as well as a gas station. It was a pleasure working with the owner and her staff, they made everything very easy. Highly recommended.
My family and I had a lovely stay at the barn. The property was very clean and well maintained and the owner and manager provided very detailed and clear information about the location, layout, amenities, things to do and see in the area, etc. The location was perfect for visiting surrounding towns and state parks. We really enjoyed the extensive collection of DVD's and LP's. Thank you for a ver special stay!
I can't find the right words to explain how happy and lucky we felt to have found the Blueberry Barn. We've been living in New York for 6 years and I can easily say that this was one of the best get-aways we ever did. Everything was so great (except for the smell of the tap water) that I almost want to keep this treasure to myself and not tell anyone.
Rachel, thank you for having us - we hope to be back very soon.
Serene Location Tasteful Barn Retreat
My two friends and I came up to Blackberry barn the last weekend in June. We had a wonderful time, the area is incredibly rural and scenic. We primarily came to visit Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska which are about a 30 minute drive through gorgeous protected preserves and parkland. The pond and canoe are adorable and we couldn't help but put in and paddle around in circles upon arrival. The home is spacious and tastefully appointed with lots of hardwood pieces and not tacky ikea garbage. You could tell from all the books, records and little details that the owners of the house are cultured people. The kitchen had everything we could possibly want, as well as a closet stocked with outdoors and barbecue equipment. The fireplace is huge and even during 95 degree days the well-ventilated house was cool enough to have a fire indoors. Everything was clean and tidy, including all linens adn towels. The property manager Brinton was very attentive and when we had trouble figuring out how to use the stove after our late arrival he was there first thing in the morning to show us how to use it. Our summer visit was superb and we look forward to another hopefully. However with all the rich wood and fireplace we were already scheming for a winter visit. This is the perfect place to get away from the city stress and grind and truly unwind in nature.
This past weekend I stayed at the house with 5 other friends. Though the profile says it sleeps 6, two of us had to sleep on a very uncomfortable futon on the third floor. We were advised of the critters who live in the roof before our arrival, but being city girls, we didn't realize that they would wake us up before dawn with their scurrying around.
Aside from the lack of decent sleeping accommodations for all 6 of us, we were also disappointed by the musty/mildewy smell of the house, a constant stream of bugs through the kitchen, and only 5 chairs that we could pull up to the table- for the sixth person we had to take turns sitting on a stool or in a kids chair. We called the property manager to see if we could get some more chairs so we could all eat and play games comfortably, but never received a call back. I realize that this rental house was a barn, but for the price we paid I expected it to be a very clean and comfortable place to spend the weekend.
As for the outside, where we spent most of our waking hours due to asthma and the mildew, there were 6 chairs and a table, but 2 of the chairs didn't have seats, and a third broke when one of my friends sat on it, and the lovely pond and canoe didn't work out for us either because there was a hole in the bottom of the canoe.
All in all we were really disappointed in the house, especially considering how much we paid to rent it.
We regret to learn that the barn was not a good fit for you. We want our guests to enjoy their time and try to be as explicit as possible about the rustic nature of the barn, both in our advertising and in the rental agreement that all guests sign. We unfortunately did not receive any phone calls or emails during (or after) your stay. We have a property manager who lives minutes away from the Barn and who is available around the clock to help guests with anything they may need. If we had been able to speak with you during your stay, we could guided you to where additional chairs are located (we have ample seating for 6+ people both inside and out) and/or physically come on site to help you find the seating you needed. We also could have patched the minor leak in the canoe, which we were unfortunately unaware of. For that we apologize.
We regret that asthma/allergies were a problem for you during your stay. We find that folks with asthma or allergies usually ask us about the presence of their particular triggers at the Barn so that they can decide whether the space is appropriate for them. We always answer people's questions honestly and fully. There is no mildew at the Barn.
The space is advertised on VRBO as 2 bedrooms and a 3rd floor hay loft with futon. This is a family property and we use the barn frequently. We have always found the futon comfortable and have never had other guests complain. We apologize if you found it uncomfortable. As for bugs in the kitchen, upon your checkout, we had our property manager thoroughly inspect the house for bugs. He found none. Perhaps a screen door was left cracked and some bugs flew in. The barn sits on 7 acres in the middle of a country field. There are definitely critters and bugs about. We have screens in all the windows and doors but we cannot guarantee that a couple won't sneak in. Our prices are very reasonable for the size, space, and amenities, and reflect the rustic nature of the space. Again, we apologize that the barn was not a good fit for you. If we had gotten a call from you we certainly would have addressed as many of your concerns as we could have immediately. Unfortunately we weren't able to do so.
Our aim is to provide comfortable and relaxing accomodations, and we hope this review and comment help future guests decide whether the barn is a good fit for them.
The Barn is a 10 minute drive from Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Preserve, which have some of the best rock climbing available nationally. This area also features excellent hiking and mountain biking opportunities.
