Awesome Place
This is our 2nd time staying here and once again we were NOT disappointed! Kids love the double decker dock to jump off and we love the location, very little boat traffic in a nice deep cove. We will definitely be back again next year !

Thank you for your review of our house on Norris Lake. We sincerely appreciate your kind words and look forward to hosting you again soon.
Beautiful property and amazing property owner. A bit of a climb back up from the dock which would not be great for the elderly but it was good exercise for our crew.
This place is beautiful. We stayed 5 days. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need from the ice maker to fill your coolers to all the games for the kids. The house is on a nice cove with a two story dock. The kids loved jumping off the top They also have a nice pontoon available for rent. The kids loved tubing every day This place is top notch Bill the owner does everything you could ask to make sure your stay is perfect We had the best time and can not wait to return.
We had a fantastic week at the lake! The home had everything that we needed and all of the kids ranging in age from 12-21 had a great time. When the weather was uncooperative, we entertained ourselves inside with all of the games that were provided (pool, ping pong, darts and numerous board games).
This house is even better than pictured and we hope to visit again in the future! The homeowner was a pleasure to work with and quick to respond to questions. Now sadly, we must return to reality!

The dock as also on a deep channel so u never have to worry about the water being deep enough. You will not find a better house and view at these rates then right here!! The best deal on Norris Lake !

The Vogel lake house was ...
The Vogel lake house was just perfect for what our family was looking for! We had all ages ranging from 2-77 years old. The house is clean, comfortable, well-decorated and perfect for kids. The paved path, which led to the nicest dock I have ever been on, was perfect for people who might not be so steady on their feet. The special bonus was how kind the Vogel family was on working with us on our last minute stay. We hope to return for many years!!!

the only negative i have is the Wifi issue. We really needed to work a few hours a day and wanted to watch netfliz or a movie at night.......and guests only get 2gb of wifi per day. Other than that, the house and the dock were just what we needed!!! The owner was very helpful when we had questions. The cove was peaceful and we loved hanging on the dock! We would rent this house again!

Thanks for the kind words, Kip. For future readers, please allow me to clarify our WiFi. As of this writing (8/2021) our internet is Viasat satellite internet. While we too are anxiously awaiting Elon Musk's forthcoming and highly anticipated SpaceX internet offering, Viasat presents our best option for speed and reliability to date.
Satellite internet is not unlimited internet. We buy a package of data. Once that data has been used, while the internet will still work, speeds can be impacted. As such, we limit our guests to 4GB of data per day. 4GB per day is plenty of data for web surfing, emails, etc. For example, our neighbors are full time residents, both work from home (he is in tech sales) and they have the same internet service and package I have.
What eats up data is video downloads (think YouTube, TikTok, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc.). We have a full library of movies at the house as well as Dish TV. There is a Redbox video rental at the Walgreens in Lafollette which has a bunch of first run and popular recently out of the theater movies.

Great family home
Awesome house for a family. Bunk room incredible. Dock was insane for kids! Hill is no joke. Hope you are in shape if you rent.
Only feedback. Bill the neighbor is very nice. But startled us as he let himself In the house when we didn't answer door! 😳

Response from VrboOwner on 21 Mar 2020
Thanks you for your feedback. We are really happy the house and dock met or exceeded your expectations.
Regarding our hill - the last 1/3 of the hill to our house – We have a paved concrete walkway from the house to the lake. No way around it, 1/3 of the hill is steep. For Norris Lake it is steeper than some houses but not as steep as many others. The good thing is that there are no stairs to climb from the lake to the house. As such, we recommend that our guests consider renting a golf cart. Ron’s Golf Carts in Lafollette has provided carts to many of our renters over the years.
Finally, our neighbor Bill comes by to each rental and introduces himself. He is a 75 year old, married and full-time resident of Norris Lake. I sincerely apologize that he startled anyone in this group. I will discuss this with him to make sure it doesn't happen again.
I do hope that once you did meet him, that you are as engaged with him as many previous renters have commented in their reviews.
Great Extended Family Trip to Our Special Place, Norris Lake
My sisters and I enjoyed a trip to Norris Lake with our families and our father in July 2023. What a gift to find this wonderful listing. The home is even more beautiful than the pictures with plenty of space for families to spread out as well as come together. The indoor and outdoor living spaces were very much enjoyed with outdoor dining, late night card games, and s’mores by the fire pit. Bill is a great and accommodating host offering us detailed instructions on how to find the property, how to make ourselves at home, etc. We all highly recommend this location and home for your next group gathering, your expectations will be greatly exceeded!

Everything we hope for !
We have been coming to Norris Lake now for over 13 years, we have done the Houseboats ,camping and Vacation Homes. This house was everything we had hoped for, it is very spacious inside, plenty of room for the family, the Double Decker Dock was a HUGE hit with the kids. The location of the house is very close (about 8-10 mins. by Jet Skis) to Marina for Gas and beverages and is in a nice quiet cove. I highly recommend this house (just not on our days please) and Mr. Vogel was responsive to my emails and texts, we WILL definitely be back next year. Thank you again for the wonderful time !

Will NEVER be back!
This was the second year we rented this property and it was very different than the previous year. We had several problems with the property. The washing machine did not work the entire week, along with several things run down. This property does NOT include a covered slip. Read your rental agreement thoroughly before renting.

Owner response: This unfair review is from a disgruntled renter that caused damage during the rental and became belligerent when a portion of the deposit was not returned. While 3 different items were in good working order the weekend prior to their rental (I know this because we were using our house immediately prior to their rental), they denied any responsibility for the very obvious damage and became confrontational when a portion of the deposit was retained to repair the damage and replace the items broken.
Furthermore, they were notified the week prior to their rental that the washing machine was inoperable, that the repair had been initiated and that parts were on order and in transit.
These negative comments are unfair. I have a robust email trail showing the belligerence and irrationality of the issue as well as pictures as confirmation of the damage done. I would happily provide this as background to my contention that this review is not factually correct and unreasonably slanderous.
Please note the comments this renter made the year prior to see that they are in line with each and every other review we have ever had:

We've rented homes at Norris everywhere from Deerfield to Twin Cove, to behind the Jumping Bridge to Bubba Brew's. This home, the setup, and Bill's care and attention to the property and his guests were all exceptional and we rate them among the best properties we've seen across Norris over the last 12 years. The house and dock were fabulous. Clean, great accommodations, and a perfect setup for a week having fun on the Lake with a medium size group. Bill sent lots of great information prior to our stay. On his recommendation, we docked at Whitman Hollow and spent a couple great afternoons at their newly renovated marina restaurant and bar which was awesome. We added a golf cart rental Bill recommended and zipped up and down to the 2 story dock all week. Lots of extra touches on this property including a freezer to store always needed ice. Kitchen and grill were perfect for a big breakfast each day and a big steak night dinner. We all loved the property almost as much as we love being together with our friends on Norris. We will definitely be back if Bill will have us again!

Norris Lake Rental
This is a tastefully decorated gorgous home. We arrived to find the home clean, modern, well furnished and stocked with every ammenity imaginable. The best features of this home are the large, modern, open kitchen/dining area, the exceptional master and master bath, the massive bunk area for children and the large dock. We had children ages 2-13 and they all LOVED the jumping dock as much, if not more, than anything else. The dock area is well stocked with high end, comfortable, padded furniture and a excellent ladders that make exiting the water easy for the older crowd.
The downsides to this property would be the lack of cell service (there is NO cell service at all, with any carrier) and the last 1/3 of the hill. While the hill is very nicely paved and the 2/3 from the dock up are easily managed, the top 1/3 (getting close to the house) is extremely steep.
While I would recommend renting a golf cart, I will caution you that when we attempted to rent one, it did not show up. We contacted the golf cart company recommended, set up the rental and when it didn't show up, attempted to reach the owner of the golf cart company. He didn't call back until the next evening (24 hours later). He didn't seem to care that he forgot our rental. In fact, he claimed that he simply forgot (as if it were our fault) and still planned on charging us the same rate for the week. We declined the rental. I'm not sure how he stays in business with that type of customer service.

Response from VrboOwner on 21 Mar 2020
I hope future prospective renters will see that there are four concepts discussed in this review.
1.) Our house and dock
2.) Cell service at our house
3.) The elevation change between our house and the lake, specifically, the steepness of the paved walkway the last 1/3rd of the hill to our house
4.) The unaffiliated third party golf cart rental company that was a disappointment to this renter
While the first point speaks for itself in the comments provided, I would like to address the other three:
Cell service – There is poor and uneven cell service all over Norris Lake. Some carriers work well in one place on or around the lake but poorly in another. We have Verizon and are able to text reliably from our house, however, the call quality is inconsistent and depends on the phone, location in the house, dock, lake, etc. We provide a landline for our guests to use and include complimentary long distance for any calls that need to be made.
The last 1/3 of the hill to our house – We have a paved concrete walkway from the house to the lake.
Golf cart rental - We are in no way affiliated with a golf cart rental provider. We make a recommendation of one who has garnered good reviews from previous renters. With that said, while the above Renter’s experience is obviously disappointing, I would hope future readers of this review would separate the experience with the golf cart rental company from the house that was rented.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have regarding our house.
The house was very nice with plenty of room. The beds were quite comfortable. We had a hotdog & s’mores eating contest at the fire pit. Had so much fun jumping off the dock and boating in that beautiful clean lake. Thanks Bill and family.

Everything about this stay was outstanding... from the initial contact with the Bill (the owner) until we drove off of the property on our last day.
Bill was communicative and helpful. The property was exactly as represented in the pictures. The house was spotless and comfortable. We'd stay here again in a minute, and give it our highest recommendation!
Thanks Bill and family!

This property is so very well maintained and the location in the cove was great! The downstairs set up was perfect for our group of teenagers while the adults could enjoy upstairs.
The party dock was also a big hit for all of us. Thanks Bill! You've got a great home

House was very nice with an excellent dock to hang out on and swim off of. The house set up was great. Three nice sized bedrooms upstairs and a perfect set up for kids in the basement with their own living room, 4 bunks, pool table and air hockey. Owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about the lake. We had an issue with the AC and Bill took care of it ASAP.

This is a wonderful property to host one or more families for a great lakefront vacation. Host Bill is wonderful to work with! He's organized and on top of everything; he really wants guests to have a great experience. The house was well appointed, beautifully decorated and very clean. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. Bill provides access to tie up a boat or waverunners to his private pier. There are 5 (yes 5) outdoor decks and seating areas. The only drawback is that it's a very remote area and there's little to no cell service at the house and for several miles from the property (Bill does provide use of his house phone, which is great). And the internet can sometimes be spotty too. The town itself is 30 minutes away. But if you're looking to disconnect and enjoy some time at the lake, this is a great place to do just that! We really enjoyed our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Bill Vogel
This is our 16th year owning the house. This is not a program rental but our personal lake house that we rent when we know we will not be using it.
Why they chose this property
Look at our pictures and reviews. The dock is one of the largest on the lake in a wide, deep water cove.
What makes this property unique
This is our personal lake house, not a program rental. The kitchen is fully stocked.
