Private Log Cabin with luxury conveniences in wooded setting with lake and creek
About Tammy Donelson
We love hosting people from all over the world in our Captain's Cabin Bed & Breakfast. We opened Captain's Annex in our home for Derby and special events. My husband, Jan, is a licensed architect specializing in log and timberframe homes and distributor for Hearthstone Homes. When we found this property featuring TWO log cabin homes, we had to live here. I, Tammy, am a marketing consultant for healthcare companies and home sharing hosts. I love to cook and spoil my guests with gourmet breakfasts and lots of goodies. We are history buffs, especially the Lewis & Clark period. The cabins are full of artifacts and historic replicas from Jan's 2004-2006 bicentennial trip to the Pacific Ocean in a keelboat to commemorate the Lewis & Clark journey of 1804-1806.
Why Tammy Donelson chose Louisville
This property has a peace and tranquility that is hard to find. Wildlife abounds. The front porch provides a great view of the lake. The creek is just a few steps away where you can go wading of explore the waterfall.
What makes this Cabin unique
Gourmet breakfast is served on weekends! Cherry Oatmeal Scones, Wild Mushroom Frittata, Scotch Eggs, Apple Cranberry Compote, French Toast Strata and Pumpkin Praline Waffles are just a few of our featured recipes. They can also be found in my new cookbook, Captain's Cabin Favorite Recipes.

Lovely rustic cabin
Our stay was just what we needed. The hosts are very thoughtful and you are served a fabulous breakfast! Wonderful bike trails are a short drive away and we got to go on a bike ride on a beautiful spring day!
Totally enjoyed the stay!
Hosts were extremely nice and Cabin was a great experience.
Staying in the Captain's Cabin is like a going back to a more peaceful, simple time, without giving up modern conveniences. We felt the magic of the setting immediately as we drove up the long drive and the owners welcomed us into the candle-lit living room with cheese, crackers, and wine. And everything continued to be perfect: the huge fireplace with logs close by, the cozy bed, a luxurious clawfoot tub (with handmade soap!), wonderful breakfasts, and fascinating, authentic décor. From every window we could see trees in fall color and if it hadn't rained while we were there, we would have enjoyed a walk to the lake and stream nearby. Don't leave without requesting a handshake from Captain, Tammy and Jan's Newfoundland. He topped off a beautiful experience!
Churchill Downs and wonderful museums are just minutes away.
