15th Century Garden Home Near Ponte Vecchio

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

Just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, on the “Oltrarno” side of the historic center of Florence, this lovely and elegant home provides all of the comforts of the modern world combined with the rich history of the 15th Century.

This home used to be the 'Forni Reali' or royal bakery serving the Medici and later the Italian royal family when they occupied the Palazzo Pitti. It comprises 130 square meters (approx. 1,399 sq. ft), and has 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a large living room and fully-equipped modern kitchen, small study and additional half bath. The apartment sleeps 6-8 people, and wraps around a lovely courtyard garden adorned with flowers, fountain and goldfish. Decorated both for comfort and charm, the home contains an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture.

The apartment has its own separate entrance on the ground floor, only one step up from the street, and is equipped with all necessary amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, satellite t.v. and DVD/VCR player, Internet connection, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and washing machine. One of the owners is an artist who splits his time between Florence and New York City, and many of his original artworks are exhibited in the home, including large oil paintings in the living room, and frescoes in the bedroom.

The apartment is located on a pedestrian-only street just off a charming piazza. There you will find a famous restaurant and delightful cafe. Just 3-4 minutes away you will find the Ponte Vecchio, and you can walk to the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria in 5-10 minutes. A parking garage is located 1 minute away, and local bus stops servicing all parts of the city are also just minutes away.

Great apartment, great piazza!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful place. Loved that it was close walking to all places we wanted to go and on the "locals" side of the Arno. 3 1/2 baths was great! One toilet leaked, but they will fix it. Great gelato place next door and great cafe across the street. Also great restaurant in the little piazza. Loved the inner courtyard at this beautiful old bakery building. Market close

Wonderful location, wonderful support staff! A seriously wonderful place to stay in Florence.

The garden home is all that is advertised. An upgrade here and there on the showers would only serve to improve an already fantastic vacation home!

Such a special place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as a group of 6 and could not have been happier with the apartment. It was charming, beautiful, perfectly located, and just funky enough to be great.

If you intend on using the kitchen, I would suggest checking the life basics - like oil, salt, etc and doing a bit of shopping upon arrival. Also, if you are not an American coffee drinker, there is only one small stove-top espresso maker (not adequate for 6)...though the bar right across the street is adorable and can take care of your coffee needs...

Honesty and Thoughtfulness When Things go Wrong

  • 5 of 5

Traveling with family, including 2 young grandchildren, so wanting space and an easy connection to tourist sites. On arrival we were informed that the apartment had flooded - Veronica made extreme efforts to accommodate us so that nap time could still happen. We then had to move to another apartment, just upstairs so in the same great area. The owner went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed and Veronica even returned to obtain some items we had left in the downstairs apartment. We loved Florence and this location with the wine bar, restaurant and gelato so nearby. We walked to everything including Uffizi, Duomo, Pitti Palace, Accademia, Mercato Centrale, Museo Galileo and even the parking garage. We also greatly admire how we were cared for despite the unfortunate plumbing issues so highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Lovely Property in an Amazing Location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 (Mom & Dad and our 4 kids, ages 21, 14, 13, 10) spent a wonderful month traveling throughout Italy in July 2016. We used VRBO to rent apartments in Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Sorrento, and Rome. We spent 4 nights in this lovely apartment. Everything about this apartment made our visit so enjoyable...we were walking distance to everything we wanted to see! Our 4 kids loved getting up every morning and walking to the quaint cafe located across the street, in order to bring back the most amazing cappuccino and pastries! We loved walking the streets of Firenze-where we felt safe at all hours of the day. After long days of site-seeing, we also loved eating some of the BEST gelato we had in all of Italy...from the little shop just a few doors down from the apartment.

The apartment itself was roomy, the bedrooms were comfortable, the 3 1/2 baths were a luxury, the kitchen was spacious and well-stocked. We loved eating outside in the private courtyard and we appreciated the washer and drying rack! Add to that the "cool factor" of the history of the property and you have a lovely property in an amazing location!

If we return to Firenze, we will definitely want to stay at this lovely property again!

Perfect Florence expierence

  • 5 of 5

I'd like to preface this by saying that my group of six and I had never been to Florence, or Italy itself before. We had high expectations from renting via VBRO many times before and this place exceeded them.

We'd picked Florence as a "home base" for the week for easy access to other cities, and as anyone who's ever planned a stay, picking a place blindly is a daunting task.

First off, communication is on point. From reserving, to check in, to check out and everything in between.

Veronica warmly greeted us and showed us around the apartment, gave us a map for the lay of the land. Take her recommendations for food, she's a local and knows what she's talking about. The ower Alkan has amazing paintings thru out the apartment he's painted himself and you can tell he takes great pride and care of the apartment.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom and a half bath off the kitchen. The apartment has all the necessities you need (iron, hair dryer, tour books, full kitchen etc.) the main room is split into a lovely living area and a dining area with a study off the side that leads into the master bedroom. The private courtyard, and by private I mean it's yours, leads to the two other bedrooms, one being accessible thru the master bedroom (but has a door in between) the courtyard has a table, fountain and the washing machine (tucked in the corner) which is a great area to relax, host, and decompress.

The apartment is about a 5 minute walk to Ponte Vecchio, with a cafe, restaurant and the BEST gelato right outside. It's about a 15 minute walk to the train station with easy access to Rome, Pisa, Venice and other Italian cities. The apartment is out of the touristy area so you can feel and act like a local.

There is an alley cat who became our friend, you can find him sleeping on one of the many vespas parked on the street.

Parking is available around the corner in a garage, you need to reserve a spot in advance (from the garage not the owner), but honestly ditch the car and take the train.

The list of wonderful delights this apartment has is endless. We loved our stay and can't wait to be back. Many thanks to Alkan and Veronica to making this home away feel like home.
