Space 1,399 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, on the “Oltrarno” side of the historic center of Florence, this lovely and elegant home provides all of the comforts of the modern world combined with the rich history of the 15th Century.

This home used to be the 'Forni Reali' or royal bakery serving the Medici and later the Italian royal family when they occupied the Palazzo Pitti. It comprises 130 square meters (approx. 1,399 sq. ft), and has 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a large living room and fully-equipped modern kitchen, small study and additional half bath. The apartment sleeps 6-8 people, and wraps around a lovely courtyard garden adorned with flowers, fountain and goldfish. Decorated both for comfort and charm, the home contains an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture.

The apartment has its own separate entrance on the ground floor, only one step up from the street, and is equipped with all necessary amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, satellite t.v. and DVD/VCR player, Internet connection, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and washing machine. One of the owners is an artist who splits his time between Florence and New York City, and many of his original artworks are exhibited in the home, including large oil paintings in the living room, and frescoes in the bedroom.

The apartment is located on a pedestrian-only street just off a charming piazza. There you will find a famous restaurant and delightful cafe. Just 3-4 minutes away you will find the Ponte Vecchio, and you can walk to the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria in 5-10 minutes. A parking garage is located 1 minute away, and local bus stops servicing all parts of the city are also just minutes away.

Perfect Florence stay

  • 5 of 5

This was the ideal place for us to stay in Florence, across the Arno from the crush of tourists who clog up center of the city. We had tons of room, and a courtyard that separated the sleeping areas. What a luxury to have separate bathrooms! The apartment was fascinating, full of what I assume was the owner's art and steeped in the history of being a 16th century bakery. It was super clean, had a well equipped kitchen, a cafe across the street where we got our espressos and dulce each morning. Plus loads of very good restaurants on the square. We loved it! Thank you Alkan.

An Absolute Delight

  • 5 of 5

Our family trip to Florence was a grand success in large part because of the the apartment which was perfect for our multi-generational family of eight, including two toddlers.

The ambience inside the apartment was very Italian in nature and it was immaculately kept. The amenities as mentioned in its write up were accurate and it felt like a home. The location was excellent for exploring all of Florence. We could easily walk to the grocery store, have a cappuccino in the cafe directly opposite the apartment, and satisfy our gelato cravings with the gelateria two doors down.  It being on a pedestrian street made us feel more secure and safe given we traveled with two toddlers. It felt like we lived in a genuine Italian neighborhood.

Upon arrival, we were met by the manager Veronica who was absolutely wonderful. She not only oriented us to the apartment but also gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants, most of which we ate in and enjoyed. She recommended places for us to visit that were suitable for our granddaughters as well as we adults. Throughout the week, she made herself available via text to address any need or question we had. She helped make our stay in Florence stress-less and delightful.

11/10, 6-stars.What more can be said?

  • 5 of 5

A perfect base for a holiday in Florence. Our family of parents and 2x teens spend 3 wonderful nights here. Everything about the apartment: facilities, location, local restaurants, etc was perfect. Quiet, yet seemingly mere footsteps to everything you could possibly need. Would not hesitate to stay again, or recommend to anyone I liked. Great communication, and very friendly and effective greeting just added to the attraction.

We enjoyed a family vacation with our mother and it was perfect in every way. The spaciousness of the house, the kitchen was fully equipped with all dishes and pots and pans. The close proximity to The coffee shop, gelatto and dining was perfect for our Mom who is 76. The courtyard is beautiful...I could go on and on...We will be back!

Awesome Apartment - perfect location -ina great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

Loved the apartment ~ roomy and accommodating! There were 4 of us and we never felt crowded. The rustic touches of wood and stone with the antique furnishings give a real feel of authenticity and being some place special. Kitchen is well outfitted for cooking at home and the location is PERFECT! Just around the corner from the Pitti Palace and situated between the Ponte Vecchio and the Ponte Sta Trintina for easy access to all the sites on the other side of the river. We loved the neighborhood! Immediately across the street was an awesome little café ~ best cappuccinos we had the entire trip! It's also a great spot for an aperitifs or night cap! If you go be sure to say "Hi" to Mathew - the best barista in Italy! Be sure to visit Ali - Leather Craft and Bead Embroidery Workshop just 2 doors down. Delightful family business that designs and manufactures right there. Beautiful bags - beaded jewelry and if you are a dog lover you will definitely want to take home one of their hand crafted collars or leashes!

Thanks so much to Francesca who made arrangements so easy and Irene for her wonderful welcome and introduction to the apartment and Florence! It was a perfect trip that all started with the perfect place to stay! We hope to go back soon and will definitely want to stay here again!

Fantastic location - could use some maintenance

  • 3 of 5

The location of this home is fantastic. It is just over the Ponte Vecchio near the Patti Palace. It is a perfect place to make your base while in Florence. The home itself is also very nice. The issue we had with the home was the maintenance of it. We had to sweep and mop the floors when we arrived since they were dirty as well as wash the shower curtain because it had mold on it. There is a nice courtyard, but it was not very inviting since all of the plants were dead. We were never able to use one of the bathrooms since the water did not work and we were told that they were not going to attempt to fix it during the week we stayed there. If the maintenance issues were fixed, I would have no issue with rating this 5 stars.
