Rustic, but perfect getaway
Wonderful views, many extras! We enjoyed the hot tub, frisbee golf and ping pong. Lots of room to enjoy the quiet but easy to find even late at night (excellent directions, thank you). Some things are a bit unfinished and eclectic, like a 2×4 as a stairway banister, but then there's a nice soaking tub and huge picture windows. Hope to be back!
Charming home nestled in forest;breathtaking views
What a true gem! We came for a wedding nearby but also got a mini vacation! Matt & Shandra have made this home into a slice of heaven. It can be hard to please everyone in our family of 8 usually, but this property made it easy to make everyone happy. It is a large, charming home with wonderful details. The saddle benches were so fun, the porch swing, so relaxing, the wrap around decks were amazing with weeping views for miles! We wanted for nothing. Thank you Matt & Shandra for sharing your beautiful home! We look forward to our next stay in the future.

Beautiful private rustic mountain home.
We recently took a family trip to California. We spent the first few days in the San Francisco Area. Needless to say everybody was more than ready to check into our private rustic Mountain home. The beds were comfortable the view was spectacular and there were plenty of activities to enjoy around the house such as ping-pong, basketball and swimming. Don’t come to this house expecting new construction but let me assure you we were more than comfortable. Matt was very accommodating and tried to help us through a few hiccups. Like the power being out one day due to maintenance. We stayed for a total of eight days and were sad to go. I would recommend this house to anybody!
Amazing, comfortable, homey, fun, fantastic mountain retreat
We had such an amazing time at this beautiful property! It was perfect for our family reunion.
It's a one-of-a kind house designed and built by the owners. The amenities (pool, hot tub, basketball, pingpong, crazy saddle stools, fire pit, gorgeous scenery) made it feel like vacation but it was also homey and comfortable. We had 5 adults and two kids for a mini family reunion, and we had such a wonderful time. We wanted to spend time together, so we mostly hung out at the house and took advantage of all the stuff there is to do there, but we also made short trips into downtown Eureka (30 min), Arcata National Forest redwoods (20 min), and Trinidad oceanfront (30 minutes).
The beds were comfy and the sheets were soft, plenty of warm blankets. The house was very clean. There are three bedrooms upstairs--an amazing master suite with porch access, a room with a double and a single, and a third room with two queens. There is only one bathroom upstairs and its access is through the master, so people in the other two bedrooms will either have to go to the half bath downstairs or use the master bathroom.
The mountain is absolutely gorgeous--misty and mysterious in the morning and bright sun (at least in August!) during the day.
The hosts were so warm and welcoming, with really nice and personalized touches like a welcoming balloon to mark the turnoff and a s'mores kit that thrilled my kids. They actually live in this house sometimes, so it's incredibly well equipped with all the kitchen stuff, condiments, toiletries, etc. that you could ever need.
We had a really wonderful, special time here, and I would definitely recommend it. Wonderful home, hosts, and setting.
Terrific rustic retreat
We arrived at the house; there were nine in our party (with my wife and three kids, sister with husband and son, and my mother), and stayed for a week and loved it! It's very spacious and rustic; it has all the amenities you would need, but has parts that are not completely finished. If you're ok with that (and we were), this place can be great for you. It is quite secluded, overlooking a valley, with a lawn, ping pong table, hot tub and above ground pool - all of which we used a lot. The kitchen is large and well equipped (we cooked every morning and night there). And the hosts were very friendly and accommodating. It's about 30 minutes inland, which means that it's considerably warmer in the summer (like, 20 degrees warmer!) than you might expect if you looked at temperatures in Arcata or Blue Lake.
Great overall, if we come back to the area we would stay there again!
