About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Alpenglow Chalet - This beautifully constructed custom home is located well within Yosemite National Park entrance gates, just 8 miles from Yosemite's Valley floor. It is located at 4200 feet elevation in the peaceful, quiet area of Foresta.

The Alpenglow Chalet has a spacious, well designed open floor plan, comfortable for eight people. Pride of ownership, attention to detail, quality, and cleanliness are evident throughout this home. This unique and comfortable home is so named after the beautiful reddish glow often seen on the sierra summits just after sunset, or just before sunrise.

The beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range views, with it's alpenglow at sunset, and awe inspiring starlit night skies, can be experienced from the decks of this home. These awesome views were opened up in part by the 1990 fire that swept through some areas of Foresta, which has now seen rapid new growth of 20 - 40 foot pine and oak trees. A spectacular year-round waterfall is an easy one mile hike from the house.

Best Home rental Ever

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and 3 friends arrived on June 1st for 5 nights. We were set to do 4 day hikes in Yosemite and this would be our home.

My first reaction upon seeing the home from the inside was "Wow!, it looks bigger than the pictures". The living room, dining room, and kitchen are immense, modern, just perfect.

Wonderful backyard with large BBQ (full propane tank) and table with umbrella.

The 2 bedrooms upstairs have California King Beds. Downstairs there's a Queen bedroom. ALL bedrooms have their own bath, which is super convenient and makes it more like home.

They also have a den with Satellite TV.

The main downside is the Internet access which is very poor but the owner is exploring HughesNet Satellite Internet. But trust me, we did not mind at all. Verizon cell phone signal was good.

The only beef is that we, as renters, have to do the kitchen cleanup and hauling of all trash to the dumpsters 1.5 miles away. Again, I would do this all over again. But thought you should be aware.

The coffee machine needs basket filters which you should bring.

The kitchen is so well equipped with pots, pans, etc., that of our 5 nights there, we cooked and BBQ'ed for 5 people 4 of those nights. The cost of groceries at the Village Store was not as bad as we expected. That is 30 minutes away.

The owner was communicative and helpful.

You will be glad you stayed here.

Thanks Lucy!!

Beautiful, serene house in paradise

  • 5 of 5

This is a seriously beautiful house. Located in the heart of Yosemite with views to die for. Dawn, sunset, the stars, the trees, the mountains all create memories which will last forever. Such a quiet, seclude place makes a contrast to the bustle of the valley. Great kitchen, huge master bedroom and a good TV room to keep the kids happy. An extended family of 7 Brits absolutely loved this house especially the stars at night. They were incredible as were every second of our stay. Lucy, the owner, was in touch regularly via email to check if everything was fine - it was more than fine! A fantastic, unforgettable place.

Wonderfully perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 5 days at Alpenglow. There were 6 adults and 4 kids...with PLENTY of room for all of us. A nice large living room to sit around the fire and play games, chat, or read. A den with a tv and games/books/movies for kids kept the noise away from the main living room. Beautiful deck, great space for kids to explore right outside the front and back doors. Kitchen had great appliances, bathrooms were well stocked and super clean.

My mother had a broken knee cap and was in a full leg cast during the trip...and while the place is probably officially not handicap actually worked out just fine for us. There is a walkway from the driveway up to the back door that does not require steps, just a gentle she was able to get in and out of the house just fine. There is a bedroom on the bottom floor with a king-sized bed and bathroom for those that might have mobility issues. Everything worked out great for her.

The kids slept in every possible place because there were so many to choose from. Futons, beds, pull-out sofa sleeper, etc. They said each of them was plenty comfortable and they loved trying a new place each night. It was like an adventure for them to explore all the different options.

We had all different weather while we were there...snow, sun, rain. The house was well controlled by the heater and insulation...we weren't too hot or too cold. Lots of blankets, sheets, towels, pillows...never lacked for anything to feel more comfortable.

We highly recommend taking the short hike out to see Foresta Falls. And, if you find that you're just dying to use your cell phone...the reception on that hike is unusually good for the area. Better than within the Foresta housing area and the Valley floor, actually. Wifi at Alpenglow is slow (and the owners tell you that in advance)...but you shouldn't be there for computing anyways, right?! If you just have to post photos to it on the hike to foresta falls.

The caretakers obviously love the house and put a great deal of effort to keep it nice for their visitors. The house was ready exactly at the time it was supposed to be for check-in...the instructions for check-out were easy to follow. We couldn't find anything wrong with the place. Seriously a wonderful time!

All that we hoped for....

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Alpenglow Chalet 08/30/14-09/05/14. The house is beautifully designed and appointed; it met all our expectations. We were pleased that the house was very clean, furniture was comfortable, and linens were good quality. There are several bookcases throughout the house, with a good choice of reading. There are children's books and family board games in the den. The kitchen was well stocked with all needed cook ware. As there were only three of us in our group, we decided to eat breakfast in, pack lunches for daily hikes, and have dinners in Yosemite Village. The house is so lovely and inviting, it was sometimes hard to leave it in the morning to explore the park.

Groceries in Yosemite Village are expensive, so if possible, plan your menus and grocery shop before you arrive. Deer are easily seen from the house. We spotted a bear across the carport once (around 6:00 PM). He paused for a few moments then raced away. Another time, a bobcat crossed in front of our car as we were leaving the neighborhood.

It's about a 30 min scenic drive into Yosemite Village; speed limits are 20-35 mph. And it was about an hour drive to the Wawona area, which is an area in the southern part of the park. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Alpenglow Chalet.

Amazing home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful home June 12-17, 2014 with our 2 children ages 10 and 6 and both sets of grandparents. Immediately upon our arrival we felt at home as the Alpenglow is clean and welcoming. We enjoyed our mornings on the porch as we were out seeing the park during the day. We saw an abundance of birds, ground squirrel, deer and even a coyote one morning! Our evenings were enjoyed around the fireplace sharing our favorite experiences of the day. We loved reading the guest book too, seeing how much everyone else has enjoyed the home and the park. It is about a 20 minute drive into Yosemite Village (where the general store and restaurants are). Once we learned the area, it was a nice drive in for things that we needed and another chance to see the wildlife and the beautiful scenery! We did get a glimpse of a bear one afternoon! If we ever come back to Yosemite, we will not hesitate to rent the Alpenglow Chalet again!

Comfortable and Elegant Winter Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home with its incredible views of Foresta. We enjoyed the wonderful layout of the home. The great room with fireplace and views, the "man cave" TV room, and each bedroom with its own bath. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware, etc and had great appliances. The location was quiet at the end of the street. There was snow on the ground which was beautiful, but made the trip from the carport to the front porch a bit treacherous. That was our only concern. We would love to come back again in the winter as the park is magical in the snow. It only takes 30 minutes to get to the Ahwahnee Hotel, in snowy conditions, from the chalet. P.S. I would recommend the brunch over dinner at their dining room. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.
