Accomodations for two couples superb...well equipped. Snorkeling awesome in the cove and very handy. Spent allot of time enjoying the peacefulness, view, and sound of the waves while on the deck. Recommend renting a SUV rather than sedan for travel. Restaurants good in Coral Bay. Well worth the travel to the east end of the island.
You cannot beat the location if you love the sea, nature and tranquility
We stayed for one amazing week on the East End at Cameron Cove. Linda was responsive and all descriptions were 100% accurate. We had everything we needed, including all linens, beach towels, well-equipped kitchen and cleaning supplies. The kitchen is full-sized and we ate all of our meals except one dinner at home. Beds were comfortable and rooms were good sized.
The home opens to the back covered deck from both bedrooms and the great room and we practically lived out there, taking all our meals overlooking the stunning bay views and nighttime stargazing. We never used the air conditioning as there are fans and good screens on the patio doors and we were never hot. In the mornings after breakfast we meandered down the path to the private beach for a long swim/snorkel. Pelican Rock nearby is an easy swim and the fish, turtles, stingrays were plentiful. We took walks in the private community at night and in the mornings and the views are spectacular.
It is a good 15 minute drive to Coral Bay, and 40 minutes to the car barge in Cruz Bay, so plan accordingly. The first day or two, driving the steep winding roads was a bit intimidating, but you will get used to it. The driveway to the house is not bad, but there is an incline. We rented a Wrangler on St Thomas and did our grocery shopping there before heading out to St John on our arrival. We made it to the house just after dark.
The caretaker was warm and welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed and was on hand to give us recommendations as needed. We drove around to different beaches and if you like snorkeling, check out Waterlemon Cay.
We will stay here again if we return to St John. We just loved it here!
Peaceful Hansen Bay Retreat
We have rented Camercon Cove for many years now, and would never consider another place. While not ostentatious in design or furnishings, the house works well and is comfortable, and for peace and quiet, and water access, you cannot beat the location. Life happens on the deck breakfast thru dinner and on into sunset and starscape, or on the beach. Not as sandy as the north shore beaches, but a very short walk, and the 1/4 mile beach is shared by only 5 properties, one still only an empty lot. Right next to Sloop Jones on the map, and walkable close to other uncrowded East End beaches. A regular parade of sail and power boats and kayaks anchor below the house: you can pay about $75 an person to hire a boat in Coral Bay for a "secluded snorkel" trip and they will bring you here to Pelican Rocks, which you can easily swim to from our beach. You need a bit of sang froid to drive the hills of the National Park from Coral Bay-- centerline road from Cruz Bay is just a warm up--but Coral Bay has all you need, and now has several quite fine places to eat. If you snorkel over the turtle grass toward Long Point in late afternoon, you have a good chace of seeing a Spotted Eagle Ray cruising under you, the single most graceful moving creature in the sea ( and air for that matter).
We have stayed in Coral Bay many times. This was our first time on the East End and we loved the peace and quiet. It was a bit of a ride into Coral Bay but worth it. We snorkeled every day at the private beach. Sting rays, sea turtles and a rather large nurse shark on our last day. Bring your water shoes! The rock beach gets the afternoon sun , breeze and wonderful sunset. It was wonderful to have a early morning walk to the top of the hill to see the sunrise- then to see the sunset in the evening from the deck. We were also lucky to have the full moon . It was amazing. We did not miss a moment. We really enjoyed Cameron Cove and can't wait to return.
