About Diane Stevenson
I am a Cath Lab and ICU RN. Due to life circumstance, began vacation renting 2 of my homes a few years ago and find that I love it. It is a pleasure to share my unique homes. Thanks to all that come to them. I hope that all my guests enjoy them as much as I have.
Diane Stevenson purchased this House in 1989
Why Diane Stevenson chose Alta Sierra
This was our family home. My husband and I built it. It is not a 'kit'. He designed it and with a good bit of blood, sweat and tears, it was built with the care of the quality craftsman that he is. We raised our son here. He grew up playing in the creek and hiking in the woods. He is now 28 and with the economy the way it is, renting this home to nice folks helps us finance his education. It is a lovely home in a lovely location. We hope you enjoy staying in it as much as we enjoyed living in it for all those years. Diane Foley Stevenson (OWNER)
What makes this House unique
I love the creek and hiking in the woods. Follow the trail across the creek and up to the top of the property where you will enjoy a spectacular sunset. Walking into the house is like something magical. It really is a unique and special place to spend some well-deserved downtime.

This place was amazing. Everything we hoped for and more. Hope to go back.
Had a fantastic time with kids and grandkids. Thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful home and all its amenities. Great time swimming and fishing in the creek. My grandson and I both caught a 12 in. Rainbow trout! I only wish the neighbors were a little farther away and we could have explored more of the swimming/ fishing holes downstream. Overall, it was fantastic. Hope to go back soon.
Beautiful spot! I hope to come back.
Great multi-family home
This house easily accommodated our three families for spring break week, with adequate space and privacy for myself & my husband, our 2 adult children and their spouses, our 13 y/o granddaughter, 9 month-old grandson, and 2 small dogs. Our granddaughter loved the spacious basement room, with the ping pong table. The loft area was a perfect place for playing with the baby. The house had everything we needed. We weren't able to cross the creek due to high water, but we had no trouble entertaining ourselves. We visited Empire Mines and 49er Fun Park, hiked the Independence Trail, played ping pong, did crossword puzzles, watched the 11-hour extended version of Lord of the Rings, ate way too much popcorn, and maybe did a little day drinking! It was a great family time, and this house made it easy to enjoy.
Comfortable, cozy, get-away
This log home is a beautiful tranquil get-away. It was a rainy weekend and the wood stove kept us cozy. The cabin is well equipped, clean linens etc, all the kitchen items needed etc. The play room looked like fun but we had no time to partake in a ping pong game unfortunately! We were well taken care of by the caretaker Diane with explicit notes, directions etc. We highly recommend this lovely property. (Forgot to mention the beautiful creek and frog seranade!)
Nice Home, Questionable Pricing Process
This is a nice home with a hot tub, a full kitchen (though the kitchen is stocked with few staple ingredients like oil and spices), and an engaged and welcoming owner. The only complaints I have are related to three incidents with rental fees:
First, once I booked the owner called to explain that there would be an additional dog fee because VRBO doesn't allow her to charge for pets as she would like to. She prefers to charge outside of the VRBO charging structure.
Second, the next day she called to request an additional nearly $400 for the rental fee because VRBO mischarged us. She explained that something was wrong with the upgraded VRBO app. As a consolation she waived the extra dog fee and the fee for the last two people in our group, which was a nice gesture. I should point out that she was very apologetic about the fee increase.
Third, the day after we arrived she forgot that she had given us the aforementioned discount and requested that we pay more. I had to remind her of previous conversations.
The owner obviously cares for her rental home and it is in great condition. Though it was expensive it was the perfect size for our group of eight. We had a wonderful time. I was just struck by the requests for additional payment, something that has never happened to me when booking on VRBO or similar sites before.
I have two vacation rental homes and have been in the vacation rental business since 2007. It is very important to me that my guests are comfortable and that they enjoy their stay.
I try to charge fairly for size of group, pet fee and length of stay. I appreciate having this chance to explain my fees.
My dog fee of $20/dog/night is paid for length of stay. This is a fairer method of payment for guests with dogs as the guest is only paying for the time of their reservation. VRBO only allows a set fee for dogs not a per/dog/night.
My per guest fee (greater than two) of $20/person/night has seemed to work well for larger groups and does not penalize small groups.
The error on the website calculation of the the extra guest fee was discovered right after this guest booked. I called VRBO to ask what to do about this and they recommended I contact the guest, explain the error then send the payment request for the extra guests. I followed their instructions. This has never happened before. VRBO apologized and fixed my listing.
I always offer a significant discount to any guest who has been inconvenienced by an error on my part as I want happy and satisfied guests.
Great and relaxing getaway find!
My cousins and I had a wonderful stay in Diane's Log House. A Lovely wooded setting, perfect for our purposes and time there. So nice to have a hot tub to soak in, a deck for outdoor meals and conversation or a night under the stars and a front porch for reading and relaxing and waiting for folks to arrive! I love the layout of the house with its wide open dining, living room and kitchen space and high ceilings. The beds and couches and arm chairs are comfortable and the linens and blankets and towels, plenty. We are already talking of the next reunion... oh, another plus, a friendly and helpful neighbor.
