Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

If you are looking for a perfect base camp to explore Yellowstone National Park and Montana, you've found it! Our guest house is situated on the banks of the Yellowstone River, just 17 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. It is a free standing structure which sleeps 4 comfortably. Stay with us and you'll have easy access to the river, the national park, and the rest of the "Big Sky" state of Montana.

Our family raises horses and maintains pasture and grazing for clients. In the summer, you'll witness the everyday chores of a working ranch--irrigating, haying, fencing, etc. In other seasons, breeding and training horses take up good parts of the day. While you enjoy the peace and quiet of this agrarian setting, rest assured that it's a short ride to the amenities of town. We think it's the best of both worlds.

National parks, you may know, are not pet-friendly. We offer a variety of kenneling choices for dogs, and corrals or stalls for horses. Guests are free to keep their pets in the guest house, if they wish.

Children especially, but adults as well, are encouraged to enjoy our cats and dogs, collect fresh eggs from the chicken coop, watch as horses are trained in the round pen or as ferriers tack shoes on their hooves. It's a safe, fascinating environment, and a welcomed reprieve from the rigors of traveling.

We're happy to help you plan your days, in and around the Yellowstone ecosystem. Hopefully, you'll return home with an idea of what life is like on a ranch, as well as many memories of Yellowstone Park and "Big Sky" country.

Great Place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property over New Year's 2018. It is a nice property that has a great scenic view getting to it. The evening we were supposed to arrive, it was snowing and we had some mechanical problems with our vehicle, so we were quite late getting in. Just as I was thinking that I should let the owners know we were behind schedule, my phone rang, it was the owners checking to make sure we were ok, concerned as it was getting late and we hadn't arrived. And, I left a couple of items behind, sent them my address and they mailed them back to me. Man, you can't beat that. The house was nice and cozy, the windows at the back of the house look right out on the river - fantastic view. In the yard toward the back of the house overlooking the river, there is an area with a picnic table where you can sit outside and listen to the river going by. Unfortunately, it was near 0 deg. F, so we had to imagine how peaceful that would be. The house is about 10 mins. from the north entrance of Yellowstone, we spent our days hanging out in the park and going over to Cooke City. Every evening when we came back there was wildlife in the pasture/driveway. One evening it was a herd of elk, another night it was deer. The owners have horses, so there were also horses in the pasture. The owners were really nice to deal with through our entire reservation, from making the reservation to when we left. As we were loading to depart, the owner walked over and chatted with us all for a bit, a very nice gentleman, he and our son got to talking hunting and, well, I think they parted new friends. The only downside is the 2nd bedroom is a loft and has ladder access, which is fine for kids but not great for all adults. The kitchen was nicely stocked with most pots and pans that would be needed. Nice roomy bathroom. If you are looking for a stay close to Yellowstone with a great view and on the river, this should check all your boxes. And, as I said, the owners are super to work with.

Quiet, Restful, and Very Pleasant

  • 5 of 5

This is a very good place for a couple to stay and explore northern Yellowstone and the Gardiner area. If there are a couple of kids, they could stay in the loft. The rental agent, Tanya, is professional and very helpful. Vern and Laurie are great hosts. The only issue I had is that the wifi and cell signal is a little sketchy, but everything else makes up for that. Considering the location, there is not a lot that can be done about the cell phone signal. They also provide a free landline in the cabin, so it's really not a problem for phone calls. I would stay here again if in the area. Good job.

Wonderful stay in Emigrant, Montana!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I love animals and wildlife and this place had it all! It's a working cattle ranch so there were horses, cows, sheep, and dogs but we also saw pronghorn, deer, and elk everyday. The ranch is right on the Yellowstone River and there is lots of fish right out back if you want to try and hook some. The property is about 20 minutes north of Gardiner which made it super convenient to visit the north part of Yellowstone. The hosts, Vern and Laurie, were responsive, friendly, and super helpful. The apartment is clean and modern. We hated leaving!

This property is amazing and Vern and Laura are super kind and accommodating!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 nights and our only regret is that we did not stay nearly long enough to do anything other than scratch the surface of what the area has to offer. Its such a beautiful and wild location that Yellowstone national park could almost be an afterthought, although its an easy drive to enter the park outside of Gardiner. The properly was clean, the patio and grill super nice, and the kids loved the loft. Vern and Laura were beyond friendly and took an interest in ensuring that we had everything we needed. We hope to return soon.

Amazingly comfortable atmosphere, great property owners!

  • 5 of 5

My family of four recently stayed at this property and it was a large part of what made our first Yellowstone trip an amazing experience. The Smith family was so gracious and accommodating. The cabin was perfect. Our kids loved the loft bedroom, the beds were very comfortable! Our favorite part was the patio with the grill and fire pit available to use whenever we wanted to. As described it was 20 feet away from the beautiful Yellowstone river setting the perfect backdrop for early am coffee or an evening fire. We can't wait to come back!
