Perfect getaway in wonderful Trinidad

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here in past and it continues to delight: house is very clean and roomy, view of harbor and sounds of the sea are worth the long drive from Sacramento.

Great house at a great location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Crow’s Nest and had a wonderful time. The house was ready for us when we arrived and the owner was very responsive. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back.

Magical place and amazing ocean views!

  • 5 of 5

The Crows Nest was the perfect weekend getaway for us. The house was super clean and had everything we needed to stay indoors. The location was fantastic because we can walk to the local beaches. It was also a 30 minute drive to the Lady Bird Johnson Redwood Forest. We also loved the place because there were many local restaurants nearby. We will be back!

Nice Location and Views - Unfortunately Back Room Not Clean - Kids Got Lice TWICE in 2017

  • 2 of 5

I've rented from Karen (owner) and stayed in the Crows Nest total of (4) times since 2015. Recently my family and I stayed there twice in 2017 - 3 nights in July; & 4 nights in October. While the property has a great view and location the cleanliness of the back room where the sleeper is located is suspect. Read further: After the last stay in July 2017 kids came back from vacation with LICE. First thought it was due to contact with relatives but after subsequent visit Oct. 13-16th and kids contracted LICE again knew there was a smoking gun. This last time the LICE (nits) were noticed 2 nights after our arrival and no contact with others were made at all. (Tally -53 nits on one head; 9 in the other) Upon leaving we notified Karen of the issue and she seemed surprised but also said changes to the backroom were made with new pullout and in addition had new sheets. I advised Karen that I inspected the pullout bed upon arrival due to the July incident and did not see conclusive evidence of LICE but noticed there was several long black straight hairs on the sheets - how could this be if sheets were freshly laundered as she stated? (Karen does not clean the house - her niece cleans it). So instead of arriving home rested and refreshed we had to remove LICE nits and perform treatment. My girls were horrified of the experience and now call the vacation the "worst vacation ever" which is not the lasting impression I was hoping for. In summary we love the house and views but after our last two experiences in 2017 its pretty clear that the cleanliness of the back room (not pictured) where the pullout sleeper is located is suspect (black hair on freshly laundered sheets? and debris on floor are red flags). Unfortunately we will not be staying at this house again and will find other rentals in Trinidad for future vacations. A sad ending to such a great location.

Owner's Response: I don’t want to be nit picky, but the accusations about the Crows Nest having head lice are very unlikely. Head lice have to feed every few hours and do not live much after 24 hours without blood from a host (human). The house had been vacant for over 24 hours. You can rest assured new bedding and towels have been put into the house. The house has been cleaned thoroughly. There have been over sixty- five guests that have stayed at the house between July 10th and October 13th, none of which have mentioned head lice. I have personally contacted several guests that have stayed during that time frame and none of them now have or have had head lice. Fortunately, I was told about the head lice, so appropriate measures could be taken. However, it was the last day of their stay. If I had found head lice in my hair or on one of my family members while staying in a hotel or vacation rental, I would have left immediately. Head lice facts: They die within 24 to 48 hours without a human host. They do not jump or fly. They do not live on or in furniture or carpets. 130 degrees will kill them. When a dryer is set on medium or high the temperature is 135 degrees which will kill them. My house keeper is a professional and has been cleaning bed and breakfast inns, private homes, and vacation rentals for nineteen years. The Crows Nest vacation rental has been in business for over ten years with no complaints about head lice up to this point. Please take time to read the other reviews. Thank you for taking the time to read my response. Karen

What an exceptional view and lovely home

  • 5 of 5

The view is amazing. An unobstructed view of the Trinidad Bay is seen from a wall of windows at the front of the house. The home is clean and comfortable with comfy beds and beautiful wood floors and paneling. The house is surroumded by beautiful flowers with garden views from every window. There's plenty of room to relaxed on the deck or one of the patios. We didn't want to leave! We will surely return!
