Villa Tamarindo is located high on a ridge bordering the VI National park. We have private access to the Caneel Hill Trail which leads to a nearby overlook and on to the North Shore beaches. The villa is only one mile from the shops and restaurants of Cruz Bay yet is tucked away in a private area. The road is paved all the way to your large flat parking area and does not require 4WD. Villa Tamarindo is managed and maintained by the owners and we can assure you everything in the house will be clean and in perfect working condition. We constantly upgrade the house and this year in November replaced the beds, great room furniture, dishwasher and much more.
The villa has two master bedrooms with king size beds making it perfect for two couples or a family with the twin option in one room. The stunning views from every room and the secluded garden pool deck give you a reason to return home early from the beach every day. The ridge top location is almost always breezy and bug free. Individually controlled air conditioning in the bedrooms give you comfort year round.
The villa has a central great room and kitchen with the master suites off to each side. Walk through closets lead into the baths with their stone and tile showers. The terrace deck runs the length of the home with private entries from each room. This deck has a covered dining area with fans off the great room and plenty of room off each side for sunning on the lounge chairs.
The fully equipped kitchen has stainless steel appliances and corian counters. All appliances are state of the art and you will find every whisk, spatula, and knife you need including service for 12, plenty of glasses and cloth napkins. Villa Tamarindo is truly a 5 star facility.
Our great room has Wireless Internet, Satellite TV DVD CD with speakers for the pool deck. The house also has a full laundry.
The antique bricked pool deck has hardwood furniture round a teak ships hatch style table under a thatched palapa for al fresco dining. A large Weber grill will assure the biggest BBQs go off with out a hitch. Or relax in the sun or under the umbrella on the lounge chairs.
Villa Tamarindo comes with all the amenities you will need for your vacation including beach chairs, towels, coolers, and pool floats. Don’t even worry about bringing shampoo, soaps, hairdryers or an iron. There is also a bocce court on the grounds for some afternoon competition between guests.
Perhaps our biggest draw is the proximity of the National Park. Our own spur trail leads 20 yards to the Caneel Hill Trail and the Caneel gut trail. A five minute walk leads you up to the observation platform on Caneel hill and a 360 degree panorama. Another twenty minutes and you are on Soloman or Honeymoon beaches reachable only by boat or trail. Or stroll down the gut trail amidst trees almost as old and impressive as our own giant tamarind tree.
Tamarindo is first and foremost a beautifully appointed villa. We stayed here with another couple, and everything we needed was at our fingertips, from the chef's kitchen for nights we cooked in, to the private pool and sun deck for leisurely afternoons after the beach. Meals on the covered porch with spectacular views to St Croix couldn't be beat, and the two comfortable king en suite bedrooms gave all of us privacy. The owners were great to work with, and Tamarindo was a perfect spot to call home for a most memorable vacation. Thanks, Mike and Terry!
This is the nicest vacation rental that we have ever stayed at. We have owned and managed VRBO properties and stay in them regularly, this property leaves you wanting for nothing. Beautiful home in a very private location with a lovely swimming pool/lounging area. The layout of the home is perfect with the two separate en suites with bathrooms on either side of the home. Mike and Terry do an outstanding job providing everything from beach chairs to meats, cheeses and refreshments upon arrival. This place is truly outstanding in everyday. We will be back!!!
This is a home....in no way feels like a vacation rental....we have visited before, and will again. We feel like we are in a wonderful guest house, cared for by a tremendously gracious host. Everything you need is here, all beautifully maintained.
Two separate ex suite king bedrooms make everyone feel like a winner.. Private plunge pool, dinner overlooking the Caribbean sea....
Mike and villa tamarindo are the best
What we loved about it:
- Basket of fresh fruit, crackers and cheese, chips, wine waiting for us upon arrival (so we didn't have to rush out to get provisions the first evening). There were even packages of coffee in the freezer for the next morning's cup of coffee. So thoughtful!
- Beautiful, beautiful grounds - landscaping, pool, patio, bacci court (yes!)
- Well designed and decorated interior with dining table on the terrace overlooking Cruz Bay, kitchen open to the living area and wall of glass doors looking out onto the terrace and the bay.
- Loved the two master suites - no "fighting" over the nicer bedroom -- with the en suites
and open showers. Really appreciated the high-end toiletries, the big towels, and the beach towels.
- Great cooking facilities. We cooked breakfast every day and dinner 5 of the 7 days we were there - used the kitchen and the grill on the patio. Ate outside every morning/evening.
- Loved the pool, sitting on the terrace, lounging in the sunshine.
- Mike (property manager) recommended taking a bottle of wine and some bread and cheese up the trail behind the house to the top of the hill to watch the sunset. We did this several times and each time was a delight.
- Located outside Cruz Bay, it was a quick and easy drive to and from the villa. We rented from Conrad rental, which allowed free parking in Cruz Bay at their location (at least they did the week we were there).
What we hated about it:
My family just came back from a wonderful vacation in St. John. Aside from the beaches being gorgeous, this house was perfect for our needs. The photos accurately represent what is offered. The place is extremely clean, well stocked with the basic necessities like paper towel, toilet paper, dish towels, etc. and then they owners to out of their way with nice surprises like OJ, milk, etc. to get you started the first day. They also supplied nice beach chairs, beach toys, towels and coolers. The owners (Terry and Tom) were very responsive to our needs when we needed help with the internet and coffee maker. The couples lives really close to the property and is there to answer any questions you that arise. My husband and I hiked the trails every day from the house. The views from the deck are beautiful (you can see St. Croix way off) and the pool area is great for sunning and reading. The drive in town is approximately 6-7 minutes. Once we mastered driving on the hand side of the road . . .getting into town was easy. The owners gave us some good tips on where what beaches to see and what hikes to do. You will hear roosters in the morning . . .as we slept with the windows open - so be prepared to be awake early or sleep with windows shut. We ate out at Cafe Rosa (really good), the Ocean Grill (mongoose junction - pricey but good) and the restaurant right across frmo the ferry - all very good. I would NOT recommend Morgan's Mango - wait staff was indifferent - and they were out of everything. Overall our vacation could not have been better. Loved the house and would stay here again - by the way ages of our kids - 5 and 12 . . . .
We just returned from a tremendous week at the villa. We could not have been happier, everything was just as we'd hoped. The villa is perfectly appointed. Beach chairs and coolers were top of my list and they were very happily used!
The beds were extremely comfortable, the pool, the view, the grill - all just as you'd expect / need. The house was well thought out, clean and super comfortable. Everything you'd need was in the kitchen.
The house is 1 mile up the centerline road from Cruz Bay which is super convenient to the north shore beaches, the grocery and the restaurants. I'd definitely recommend reserving a jeep for your visit.
The hikes out the back are fun and a don't miss...to Caneel Hill and Margaret Hill. Be sure to take your bug spray and camera! As an FYI - I had hopes that we'd treck out the back door, down to the north shore beaches and back up. You'd have to be in tremendous shape for that - and carrying chairs, cooler, towels isn't really realistic. Plan on loading up the jeep!
Lastly, the welcome package (eggs, bagels, milk, butter, cheese, crackers, rum, beer etc.) was REALLY helpful - especially the first night / first morning. We purchased some rum before getting to the villa, and we could have done without. Prior visitors have left some things behind, so the bar is pretty well stocked already! My advice is to check it out before you purchase. We left a nearly full bottle of citron rum ourselves... So buy some things, bring some things, and leave some for the next folks. We all benefit!
We are absolutely looking forward to our next visit.
Lastly, I am also going to do a full trip report and post on trip advisor - st. john forum. I did a lot of research there so paying it forward... look there for more details if you are thinking of a st. john visit.
