About this property
Amazing artistic home, hot tub, dreamy views! July 28-Aug 6th available now!!
Come enjoy the amazing views of the continental divide and Indian Peaks Wilderness in this one of a kind home! Located just 7 miles from the town of Nederland, 15 minutes from Eldora mountain Resort, 1 hr from Denver, and 35 minutes to Boulder, the house makes you feel like you are way off the beaten path, yet still accessible to so many great restaurants a small towns. The Casita is more than just a vacation rental, it's a piece of art! Carefully crafted with almost all reclaimed materials, this house will truly make you feel at home. There are Breathtaking views of Arapahoe peaks, jetted tub, hot tub, outdoor steel fire pit, gas grill, shower in the master with views of the divide and hammocks!!. The house was initially designed to be a vacation rental and it has a personality unlike any other. It is certainly a one of a kind home! 4 Wheel Drive or AWD is mandatory in the winter and recommended, in general, however, not mandatory in the summer.
The Casita is a modern construction that we have been building since 2012. The house is primarily made up of reclaimed materials with the exception of some of the framing lumber. All of the windows, doors, flooring, cabinets, counters, granite, flagstone, outdoor kitchen, and even all of the appliances came from other resources. We take pride in making luxury out of re-used building materials!
After building our bed and breakfast, Casa Colorado over the last ten years and using reclaimed materials, we thought it would be fun to build another house that could be a vacation rental and would act as an example of a reclaimed design and build project, start to finish. After discovering Resource in Boulder and a few other used building suppliers, I was able to stockpile all of the house parts before we started building. I designed this house by using the pieces that I found, but also prioritizing the artistic integrity, functionality, and overall class of the home.
The house sleeps up 6-8 people, but is probably the most comfortable with 4-6. There is a king in the master bedroom, as well as a day bed with a trundle and a queen futon in the loft attached to the master but separated by French doors. There is a queen in the downstairs bedroom. We have added a 3rd bedroom in a seperate tiny house behind the outdoor kitchen. There are also 4 blow up mattresses and two pack n’ plays for kids.
The Casita Kitchen is built with an open floor plan and features a stained torquoise concrete slab with in floor radiant heat, a beautiful Viking range with a center griddle and a stainless dishwasher and refrigerator. There is also a professional grade blender, coffee maker, French press, espresso machine, 4 slice stainless toaster, and a soda stream for making your own bubbly water. There are professional grade copper pots and pans, as well as stainless for your cooking pleasure. There is a crockpot and a Champion juicer, as well. The kitchen is fully stocked with a full line of savory herbs and spices and a few varieties of sea salts and also fresh organic herbs growing for your convenience (during the grow season).
The lighting in the Casita is really amazing. There are remote controlled full spectrum leds, moroccon sconces up the stairwell, deep blue pendants over the island, and rail and cable lighting throughout the house. Every light in the house has a dimmer. The ability to create a really cool feeling in this house is one of its signature characteristics!
The living room is very quaint and has an 8 ft. cozy designer couch, as well as two comfy chairs. There is a pellet stove that does a great job of heating the space and provides a really warm atmosphere during the winter months. There is also in floor radiant heat in the kitchen and the two bathrooms and radiant wall mount heat in the rest of the house.
There are flatscreen tvs with direct tv in each bedroom and a 55 inch in the living room. There is a Harmon Kardon surround sound stereo system in the living room and speakers throughout the entire house for your listening pleasure. The stereo also has a tablet that you can stream spotify or Pandora or use it to get online. There is also wifi throughout the house.
Design: There are many amazing artistic features to this house. We used custom, handmade tile in the downstairs shower that almost feel ocean like, and tie together the torquoise theme throughout the house. There is a deep blue vessel sink that compliments the tile and sits upon a late 1800's sink basin. There are glass tiles, raku tiles, custom textures, reclaimed 1800’s beams and an ornate Balian architectural piece in the kitchen that truly brings an old world feel to the kitchen. The house feels open and airy and has high, vaulted ceilings.
Hot tub: The hot tub is located right out the back door for easy access and is always set to 104-106 for your comfort. There are two glass enclosed showers, but they are NOT steam showers. They do, however , get pretty warm inside as they are both fairly small enclosures.
Skiiing/ Sledding: The house is located about 15 minutes from Eldora Mountain Resort. Eldora offers plenty of downhill terrain as well as a great Nordic Center with miles of Nordic trails to choose from. Sledding can happen right from the house! The location is perfect for sledding right out the front door! The hill is just right out of the front door. Sleds and snow shoes are provided. The house also backs up to National forest, so it feels very private and really there are 100’s of acres of forest right behind the house. We continue to work on the trail system so that hiking and cross country skiing can happen right from the house.
Hiking: During the summer months there are amazing hikes all within a 15-minute drive. We supply the house with trail maps for your convenience.
Closest town: The nearest town is the town of Nederland. It is located just about 7 miles away from the Casita and has an assortment of restaurants, cafes, bike shops, grocery store, co-op, liquor stores and is a really charming, little, mountain town.
Blackhawk is 12 miles from the house, as well. Technically, we are a Blackhawk address, but it’s actually closer to Nederland than it is to Blackhawk.
The Casita is conveniently located 1 hr. from Denver and 40 minutes from Boulder and are a just a short walk from each other in the mountains 7 miles south east of Nederland. It's the perfect getaway from the city life!! Come pamper yourself with the relaxing, cool breezes at 9,000 ft!!

About the host
Hosted by scott Messersmith

While working on the road as a touring musician, Scott purchased Casa Colorado and began the arduous task of building his greatest creation, piece by piece. A few years later the vision came together when Morgan moved in and they decided to share their home, primarily as a B&B, and later as an entire house rental. By choosing to stay closer to home, they are able to spend more time shaping their vision for a more sustainable lifestyle. Both passionate about high altitude gardening, today they are a little bit farmer, artists, chefs, and professionals that wear many hats to complete the jobs on what they joke has become a mini mountain farm.
