TRAVEL DIRECTONS:

From San Jose, take the Panamerican Highway to San Ramon, exit when you see the sign directing you to San Ramon and drive through the town of San Ramon following the signs of the Arenal volcano route. You will go through Bajo Rodriguez, La Tigra, Chachauga and then finally to La Fortuna. We suggest that you use a GPS mapping and routing system. Also the WAZE App for your cell phone works very well. When you pick up your car, enter La Fortuna and select the police station as your destination in your GPS router. Go west out of La Fortuna entering El Castillo as your destination in your GPS router. Upon arriving in El Castillo turn left through the village proper and continue up the hill approximately 1km. There are two stone pillars at the end of the drive holding a gate to the property on the right. You can call 1-303-915-0568 go get more detailed directions to the house.

DIRECTIONS TO EL CASTILLO FROM LA FORTUNA:

When you get to La Fortuna go west through the town and pass Tabacon on your right, then go a few more miles (about 4) until you see a tiny little police station on your right..you will take a left there onto a dirt road. Go 3 or 4 miles until you get to an intersection (T) where you must take a left or right. You will see a lot of signs directing you to different places in El Castillo. You will take a left. Go another few miles until you go over a small bridge and take your next right...at more signs. Keep going straight. You will pass the Sky Trek and continue to follow the road for a few miles, keep driving until you go over another small bridge. The first left after this bridge is the entrance to our village. Go through the village proper and then up the hill and you will pass the Serpentarium, then the Butterfly Conservatory (the house is approximately 600 meters from here)..continue going up and you will see Essence Arenal on the right. You will pass two streets on your right and then your house is the 6th house on the right. There are two stone pillars at the end of the drive holding a gate to the property. Please call us when you arrive in La Fortuna and either myself or our caretaker will meet you there. If for some reason we miss each other there will be a key in a combination lockbox. Please call me at (303)915-0568 for the combination.

About Patricia Davis

I am an accountant and live in Colorado. My favorite places to travel are Costa Rica - beautifully country and love the people, and Italy. I love being active and love to travel. I fell in love with Costa Rica - Specifically the Arenal Area as El Castillo is approximately 2000 feet above sea level in the rain forest where the temperature is moderate 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit with cooling breezes and beautiful countryside.

I cannot live without bicycling, skiing, my friends, my husband, books and Television - Almost but not necessarily in that order.

The most unforgettable book that I have ever read is The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I love the Ender series by Orson Scott Card. My favorite adventure and espionage writer is Nelson Demille because he interjects humer into his main characters. I loved the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon about life in Scotland during its revolt with England and the early days of the settlement of America all combined with time travel.

Two of my most favorite travel destinations are Italy and Costa Rica and when I go I like to join bicycling tours and see the country by bike.

One of my favorite book series and movies was the Hunger Games. I loved the movies Top Gun and also Knights Tale and I mustn't forget The Princess Bride.

I am still a rock music enthusiast as it is very good listening for Biking, skiing and rollerblading. I also like Pucini Operas.

I have to confess that I am a gluttin for carbs which I must reduce at my age and have gotten into juicing. My favorite juice is Banana, green grapes, Orange, pineapple, spinach, slice of lime and crushed ice.

I supplied and decorated the house in a style and comfort pleasing to me as if I were to live there. The renting of my vacation home is a work in progress, and I am open to any and all suggestions because my aim is to ensure my guest's comfort and enjoym

Patricia Davis purchased this house in 2012

Why Patricia Davis chose San Carlos

I came to CR with a friend in January of 2012. I had been to Costa Rica before and had to come back. We stayed in El Castillo at another property nearby and looked into purchasing a property. I fell in love with this house the moment I saw it With it's fantastic view of the Volcano Arenal, and rolling hills and pasture land, and it's location in the village - very country and nestled in with the locals. Also there are many, many adventures within 1, 2, 3, and 5 kilometers of the house. The house is spacious and very cozy.

What makes this house unique

This home is a 3 bdrm home located in the village of El Castillo. There are many things to see and do and the views are beautiful.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The entrance through the twin bed room is not the only entrance to the Master and there is a lock on the door between the two which could be engaged for privacy. The other entrance it through the patio on the north side of the house. It is an outside entrance and this is in Costa Rica where you do not have to worry about cold weather. In addition, the roof has sufficient overhang so it is is raining you will not get wet while walking along the outside of the house on the sidewalk. Furthermore there are umbrellas provided for your use if it is raining with wind blowing the rain onto the sidewalk.

Great house, great region!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at Villa Millón! The house is perfect, plenty of room for our family of 4 (8 and 10 yr-olds). Ericka and Gilbert were very helpful for our activity planning.

The house is located close to everything interesting. We hiked 3 times, did the Zipline (absolutely essential even for someone who's afraid of heights like me!), visited the Butterfly Conservatory, La Fortuna Waterfall and Don Olivo cocoa plantation (really interesting and tasty!), relaxed at the Baldi Hot Springs, ate at Mesa de Mama and Pizza John's (both great), even found a little river to cool ourselves down after a hot day of hiking! Don't miss out on the beautiful sunrises and sunsets from uphill behind the house.

For groceries, I recommend you go into La Fortuna as you will really find everything you need (El Castillo mercados are ok for essentials).

Great house, great town, great and friendly people. Pura vida!

Very quaint!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six loved it here! No air conditioning... no problem! It was very comfortable. Great restaurants in the area and small grocery stores within walking distance. Erika and Gil were wonderful! They offered suggestions and assistance that worked perfectly with our family. They even brought us fresh baked bread! If you're planning on driving yourself, definitely get a vehicle with 4WD because those roads are treacherous.

The beds were super comfy, the views were breathtaking and the excursions were all nearby and lots of fun! After all the long, fun filled days, the kids snuggled on the couch with popcorn and Netflix while my husband and I sat outside with a glass of wine. It was a perfect vacation!

Wonderful home for family vacation to Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful home for three nights/four days as the start of our 9 day trip to Costa Rica. The location was perfect, although the drive to the house is a bit rough due to the road conditions. We didn't mind because had a 4-wheel drive, but it does take time to reach the house because of how slow you must drive. The house itself is lovely, spacious and well-maintained. We had more than enough room for my husband and myself and our three teenagers. The outdoor patio is fabulous; we ate breakfast there every morning. There is great hiking just up the road from the house. Gilberth and Ericka, who live just down the road, were incredibly helpful, setting up reservations for us at Sky Adventures (which we also highly recommend--our entire family did the Sky Limit experience and it was amazing) and Baldi Hot Springs. They stocked the kitchen with cereal, bananas, milk and juice for our arrival, which was very thoughtful. They also gave us information on hiking the nearby 1968 Arenal Volcano trails (another must do). We drove into LaFortuna one evening for dinner and exploring the town, which was a great experience also. Patricia was very responsive and helpful as well. Staying at Villa Millon was a wonderful way to begin our Cost Rica adventure.

Had a wonderful time!

  • 4 of 5

This is a great property and we had a wonderful time staying here. It is a beautiful home, nicely upgraded, clean and well stocked with most kitchen utensils and appliances. Our family of five (all adult children) felt right at home in this large one-story home. And let's not forget the incredible view from the front of the house! Gorgeous, breathtaking mornings and lazy afternoons on the hammocks in the front yard of the house. A couple of things to know: the road through the village of El Castillo where the house is located in very bumpy (probably from the frequent rains they get here) so make sure you have a 4x4 and are ok with driving on such roads, especially if you're going to be frequenting the surrounding areas. Otherwise it's a wonderful place to stay, in a beautiful country. We're certainly coming back!

Cool house, amazing views, but definitely for the adventurous!

  • 4 of 5

I do not have any complaints per se about the house, or Patricia, the owner. She was wonderfully helpful and quick to answer any questions. But I do feel I need to "warn" potential renters - this house is remotely located, meaning, hard to reach. Also to note, the third bedroom is not really a separate room, it is an area separated from the living room by a heavy wooden screen. Also to be aware of (and maybe most of you will have done better research than I apparently did!) - we went in May, the start of the rainy season. So, at least while we were there, there were heavy storms in the evening that at one point left us without power for many hours. This was a little tough to handle due to the heavy humidity and high heat. Again, please know I am not saying this to disparage the house or the owner, but to provide a more complete picture of what you could be getting into. As you can see, I still gave this place 4 stars!

Villa Millon was the Perfect Choice

  • 5 of 5

I do a lot of research before I go on vacation. I looked at just about every villa in the Arenal/La Fortuna area. Villa Millon was one of my first picks. I booked based on reviews, the location and most of all the quick responses I got from Patricia. She was very easy to work with and replied to all my emails quickly.

The house is 100% as described in the listing, with everything you need. The beds are very comfortable, and the view of the volcano is stunning. We were a party of five and had plenty of space. I woke up every morning and took a walk up the road to the top of the mountain for amazing sunrises and views along side horses and oxen. The road to the house in on is not as bad as some people say. in fact when we were the they were doing a lot of improvements to the roads just at the bottom of the hill. The house is in a rural area with friendly locals who make you feel you belong. One neighbor made fresh donuts for us that were amazing. There is a small store just up the road for supplies. There is plenty of activities very close by, without having to go into La Fortuna. Activities can be booked through Ericka the house manager who lives just down the road. Speaking of Ericka, she was fantastic. She met us on our arrival, came by with fresh fruit in the morning and arranged some activities for us.

Do yourself a favor and stay here, it is authentic Costa Rica. Friendly locals who wave and smile, great local Sodas (don't get sucked in to eating in La Fortuna)I am very happy I picked Villa Millon...........PURA VIDA!!!!!
