marble bathroom with shower
a hot tub spa
Full service kitchen (with refrigerator, stove/oven, toaster and microwave oven)
Outside barbeque facilities
Camp fire area
With ceramic suns set in it's custom stone exterior, and the cedar and travertine lined meditative interior, the bright and decorative sun house has all you need to relax and enjoy our sierra getaway.
Accommodating 2-4 people, The Sun House has a king size bed in the main living area along with a library that has a custom redwood desk and a trundle, day bed. We also have a flat screen tv, dvd player and a dvd library.
In addition to the marble bathroom with shower, there is a full service kitchen with refrigerator, stove/oven, toaster and microwave oven. Outside we have a BBQ for all your summer grilling needs( each house has it's own BBQ). And just in front of The Sun House is our communal pool and hot tub. But before 10am and after 5pm the pool is exclusively for The Sun House.
We also have large gardens and lawns to play games and explore not to mention that we are in the middle of national forest so there is quite a bit of hiking that can be done right here at Spinning Wheel Yosemite. The Tuolumne river is also just 100 yards away and is great for fishing and swimming.
You might not be surprised but we feel we must let you know, the internet is not a feature that we boast about out here. Being tucked away in the National Forest internet access is technically available, but it is limited, unreliable, and slow (and when we say slow we mean very slow). Basically you can check you email at our airstream business center.
So come on out, relax, read a book, watch a movie, play some games, look for the wild life and unwind at Spinning Wheel Yosemite!
The Barsotti family begin vacationing at Spinning Wheel well before 1982. In 1982 when presented with the opportunity to purchase Spinning Wheel, there was no hesitation. Because of their love for the area they crafted a place where others could come and vacation as well. In 2013 Dharma and Eliote took over the property and are now the owners of Spinning Wheel Yosemite. Spinning Wheel Yosemite experienced a big forest fire in 2013 and as a result we had to rebuild this home. It's now a brand new vacation home with all the amenities of modern living while still in a beautiful forest environment.
Dharma Barsotti & Eliote Durham purchased this house in 1982
Unlike many other vacation properties in the area Spinning Wheel Yosemite offers a very private experience, being in the middle of national forest with no other neighbors for several miles. Each Home (there are 5 in total) is located far enough away from the other where you can feel both connected (if you are renting multiple properties) or private (if you are using one house). Many people come and enjoy staying on the property so much (hiking, BBQing, swimming, lounging by the river and pool, etc...) that they are happy to stay right here. And yes Spinning Wheel Yosemite is just a short drive to the Western entrance to Yosemite making it the perfect getaway just outside of the park.
The middle fork of the Tuolumne River runs through the property and holds a special place in our hearts. In the summer it provides a wonderful place to lounge and beat the summer heat. Not to mention the great fishing! And we are very secluded so no crowds or noise from the outside world
The homes have been individually crafted up to the last detail. Stones were hand selected and placed on many of the cabins and each one has a story. Much of the art within the cabins and on the property is made by one of the Barsotti's. Which helps to make Spinning Wheel Yosemite feel like a comfortable "home away from home" get away.
If you want to get away and relax then this is your spot! Beautiful grounds, cozy little romantic sun house for 2 and lovely caretakers who made us feel very welcomed. The house was clean and comfortable, didn't use the pool or Jacuzzi because the weather was cold and there were lots of little bugs buzzing around (I think it's because of the season) but both were very clean and well maintained. Good distance to a near town and up to the national park, the drive is so beautiful that we didn't care. Loved it and can't wait to go back!
We stayed at The Sun House for three days at the tail end of our trip through Kings Canyon, Sequoia and Yosemite, and boy did we pick the ideal spot to unwind and relax after all the activities in the national parks. The charming Spinning Wheel Sun House, with it's gorgeous, pristine pool and hot tub, and lovely gardens all around, is set in a truly idyllic setting. Our kids slept in the side room, "the library", which thought was great fun, and we all enjoyed perusing the interesting books in there. Our kids had a ball with all the swimming, and playing with the gentle dogs who quietly guard the property. We even had a peacock make a few surprise appearances strutting around the pool.
The kitchen had most everything we needed and we enjoyed grilling on the charcoal grill and having dinner by the pool each night. We all enjoyed the house and pool so much we didn't even make it down to the river until the last day. The couple who take care of the property, Patrick and Heather, were very helpful and friendly.
This is a phenomenal property set in the incredible Sierra wilderness and we truly hope to come back next year, and will consider having friends/family join us and rent out the other cottages on the property. It's a terrific setting for a family reunion.
My parents have always taken us to places all over the US on vacations, but we always camped. Now that I'm older, I decided to treat them and my kids to a bit of luxury. This was a perfect stay. Very close to the entrance to the park and perfect setting. Creek on the premises. Pool. Peacocks. Super nice management in the main house on location. We stayed on a different house than this is for, but I can't find that one listed. All properties on site were just perfect. Super relaxing and fun for all. Well worth the cost for such a great setting.
We stayed at Sun House in August 2012. If we have an opportunity to return to Yosemite, we would love to stay at Sun House. The setting was beautiful. The river provided hours of fun to our adolescent children. We enjoyed the pets--especially the peacock. We took many photos on the property itself. This is a picturesque spot that has been cleverly designed and executed. Delightful details abound--the carvings on the porch posts, lots of outdoor art and charming buildings. There are other guests on the property, but it still seemed private. The owners and the maintenance person on the property were helpful and thorough. Our first VRBO experience made us eager to try VRBO again
We just returned from a 3 night stay in the Sun House. Its truly a beautiful peaceful place. A day or every afternoon there is needed. The pictures don't do it justice.
Take some time to stop by the swimming spot on the main road just over the bridge. We ate in Groveland one evening. However bring food, once you are there you wont want to go far.
The park is about 50 minutes away.
The only issue we had was the fridge was quite noisy at night when it came on, but possibly it was because otherwise everything was so quiet.
We loved this place.
Wow! We just returned from a 2 week trip to California and when I asked my kids the best part, I had a unanimous agreement that the Sun House rocked! We have 2 boys (ages 10 and 13). They slept in the library (twin and trundle). There is a king size bed in the main room. The house is lovely. The setting is amazing. After spending a day in nature we felt we should not return to smelly motel room. We were so happy we chose the Sun House. We were greeting each morning with the owners pet peacock (Alan). The river was fun to explore. The owner (Deborah) and her cousin Tony were extremely hospitable and very helpful regarding the park and things to do in the area. The grounds are beautiful and they are decorated with natural art work (all done by family members). The drive to the Yosemite entrance was about 7 miles. The drive to the valley was about 25 miles. That part was rather long. One day we just stayed at the house and went to Rainbow Pools (nearby). Some tips... make sure you stock up on groceries in Groveland before you get to the house. There is no shopping nearby. Make sure to get to the house before dark each day. It's up a dirt road which could be hard to find in the dark.
If you love nature (and comfort), Spinning Wheel is the place for you!
