About Suzann Pilot

Martin and Suzann are owners and full-time managers of Olympic View Cabins. They are close by so are available whenever you might need. Their son designed and built the cedar Compass Rose House in 2010.

Suzann Pilot purchased this house in 2004

Why Suzann Pilot chose Port Angeles

We had a vision for over 30 years of a family compound where we could live and share a beautiful natural environment with our son and daughter. We traveled the Pacific Rim, New Zealand and Canada in search of a place. When we found this place 14 years ago it felt like we had found our dream.

The Olympic Peninsula provides remarkable natural beauty of almost every sort. We climb mountains and get into areas with pristine glaciers and lakes and see bear and goats and deer, and a huge variety of birds. We love to find waterfalls that few people have found and explore the rainforest mysteries summer and winter. Our children surf the waves as we explore the beaches which have unusual pinnacles and formations, and we collect driftwood and bask on the white sand. We take our family picnicking on the beautiful clear rivers where they often catch Steelhead or Salmon. Skiing and snowboarding and several winter sports are a big attraction. And always, we make sure visitors get into the exceptional Olympic National Park.

What makes this house unique

We take great pride in the home we offer to you with meticulous detail. Our son designed his Compass Rose House and we all built it together. Some refer to it as 'elegant camping' since you feel like you are almost out of doors with the openess the home has to all the surroundings. You have all the luxuries for truly comfortable living; excellent beds and linen and great cooking facilities--even the best of organic local herbs.

Our specialty in life has been to enjoy and appreciate nature and to help others have that passion too. And that is witnessed in our lovely property and the beautiful homes we have blended with the natural environment. For those who want privacy, we provide it. For those who want a serene and restorative Northwest experience, we provide that. Our homes are surrounded by meadows and a pond filled with fish, with majestic trees lining the edges and wildflowers. We have tried to make nature available and enjoyable out of every window and from every deck. Our hot tubs are outside so you can view the stars. You can see the Olympic Mountains in all their array from nearly every window. We want to touch people, to leave a lasting memory of enjoyment and rejuvenation, to have an infectious experience that compels them to want to pass on the importance of our natural resources to everyone.

Magestic views right from the living room, front porch and hottub. Secluded, quiet and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here January 2018 for a week of peace and quiet. Got everything we needed and more. From the breathtaking views to the herd of deer that traveled through. We have been renting cabins throughout Washington on both sides of the cascades for over 20 years. The compass rose house has got to be one of our, if not favorites. From the breathtaking views, to the beautiful well equipped cabin stocked with everything you need. The wood stove with wood provided, the hottub, ponds to fish if your lucky (we weren't) and owners who are near to serve you if you need them or not to be seen if you don't. Suzann and martin are the best of people to work with. When exploring the Olympic peninsula and all it has to offer I couldn't imagine wanting to stay anywhere else while doing so. We can't wait to come back Lord willing. You won't be sorry staying at this little peace of heaven on earth, we didn't want to leave!

Charming cabin with a stellar view and all the finer details covered

  • 5 of 5

I rented the cabin for out of town guests, but found it so charming I decided to stay there as well during their stay! The cabin is so well appointed, and very welcoming. We especially enjoyed sitting by the warm wood fire stove and looking out at the deer playing in the yard. The hot tub was heaven after a long day of hiking the near by trails in the Olympics. Every detail of this little treasure was well thought out, and the location was perfect. I look forward to staying again as new guests come to explore the beauty of the Olympic peninsula.

Reconnect, Rebalance and Replenish

  • 5 of 5

Escape the fray and mundane – find nature’s beauty and perhaps yourself in this breathtaking cabin. Enjoy the beautiful forests, bountiful gardens and beckoning mountains practically at your doorstep. We spotted a wild deer and enjoy the sounds of nature.

If you are seeking some peace and quiet and quality time – then look no further. Connect with nature and feel at home. Here you can nurture your body and give your busy mind a rest. Take a deep breathe of fresh air to reground and replenish your spirit with the natural beauty that abounds here. Reconnect, Rebalance and Replenish your Heart here.

The cab itself is beautifully made and kept. It literally has everything you need to feel right at home. Everything from the dish soap to the laundry detergent!

The owner Suzann was so nice and professional. She has obviously taken her time reading through previous renters request. She had a list of how to do or find anything in the house.

Being from the big city of Houston, TX we didn't even know how to use the chimney. We were so thankful to find instructions. lol

I loved this place and I can't wait to visit again one day. We will defiantly stay longer next time. This was an awesome getaway before heading to Seattle for the big Texans - Seahawks game.

Thank you Suzann for an amazing experience!

Wonderful, gem of a property!!

  • 5 of 5

Me, my wife and our 3 children had the pleasure of staying in the Compass Rose House for 4 nights in August 2017.

The little house is a beautiful gem and perfect for a family with kids - there is only one bedroom on the first floor and then a sleeping loft accessed by a ladder (which the kids thought was cool).

The house was very clean and well maintained and had all the comforts of home. My wife and I both like to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed, including a nice gas range and all the basic sundries we needed (oil, vinegar, basic spices, ketchup, mustard, etc.)

The area is convenient enough to town but far enough away so one could enjoy the 'country', including the peace and solitude we were seeking. Absolutely Perfect.

The surrounding property and deck were perfect for us and we enjoyed the hot tub after long days of hiking in Olympic National Park. We also enjoyed eating dinner on the deck while overlooking the Olympic Range.

We've rented many houses over the years and this was one of the best. Would recommend this place to anyone without any reservations. The owners are also very nice and responsive.

A few notes:

1. While this house says it could sleep 8, I'm not sure this house would be comfortable for sleeping more than 2 adults and kids, unless two adults like climbing the ladder to the loft and sharing space with the kids. The house is absolutely perfect for a couple or small family.

2. The hot tub cover weighed a ton! I tried placing it back on the tub myself and it fell and cracked. I nearly had a heart attack with worry (lost deposit, causing damage for something not my fault). The owner assured me the next morning that lid was old, and degrading so soaking up water and they should have told me ahead of time. They refunded me security deposit without delay.

Don't hesitate to stay here - just awesome!! You'll love it!!

Beautiful place - quiet and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This location is off the beaten path but really worth the drive. We enjoyed the property and its proximity to all the wonderful outdoor activities in the area! Every amenity you need is on site and the owners all always there to handle any issues that arise...which never happened! This is a perfect getaway location where, after a long day of hiking or other adventures, you can retreat too and enjoy the birds, deer, and privacy from the awesome deck! Can't wait to return! Thank you for the great time we both had!
