You'll go cray-sea for the calm coasts of Crikvenica
Are you craving quiet beaches with crystal clear water and pristine nature? Crikvenica vacation rentals will shorely hit the spot. This coastal treasure along the northern Adriatic Sea has a mild climate, chill vibes, and a rich history. The city used to be a Roman-era settlement and military base, and now is the largest settlement on the Vinodol Coast. It was a haven for health in the early 1900s, and you can still soak in the thermal baths after an invigorating day of swimming, boating, or hiking.
A day trip or 2 is looking pretty attractive
Dive into marine life at the town's aquarium. Or check out the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a circa-1412 church. Or for an ancient religious dwelling, cross the bridge to the island of Krk to see the 5th-century Krk Cathedral. While you're there, do some spelunking (that's cave exploring to you and me) at Biserujka, a subterranean cave with stalactites and stalagmites, and even a concert hall. The city of Rijeka is another great day trip. About 30 miles up the coast, its streets are lined with Hapsburg-era (15th century) buildings and you'll love touring the impressive Trast Castle, a reconstruction of an ancient Illyrian fortress.
Boatloads of fun activities in Crikvenica
The beaches are the shining star of Crikvenica. Some are sand and some are pebbles, and most have calm, shallow water that's beautifully clear and great for kids. Many beaches also have playgrounds, volleyball nets, bars, and restaurants, so you're bound to find something to float your boat. Or just rent a boat in the harbor for some waterskiing, fishing, or cruising. No worries if you don't have your sea legs: there are hiking and biking trails all over this area. You can also channel your inner monkey at Adrenaline Park, which has a climbing trails, trapeze platforms, and rope courses.
Raindrops keep fallin' on your head—from June to November anyway
There's another thing that's been drawing people here for centuries—the climate. The summer is glorious, with temps in the upper 70s, and seawater in the mid-70s, which is pretty perfect for swimming. Summer's the busiest time for Crikvineca vacation rentals. Winter dips down to the 40s, and a rare snowfall will flake out pretty fast. Precipitation is common from June to November, and the fall foliage is pretty epic. Between late January and early March, this area gets lively with the Rijeka Carnival, a Mardi Gras celebration.
Feeling outdoorsy? That's the nature of the beach
Crikvenica vacacton rentals are scattered around the Vinodol Coast lowlands. The skinny beaches are lined with pine and palm trees, and the Crikvenica waters are part of Kravner Bay in the Adriatic Sea. You'll see many of the bay's islands from the coast, the largest being Krk. Further inland and at the nearby National Park Risnjak is the typical karst (limestone) landscape of Croatia: jagged mountains that are covered with dense forests that peak around 5,000 feet. The area's home to some rare flowers such as the alpine yellow violet, and animals such as brown bears, boars, deer, badgers, and wolves.
