Our new favorite place. The place was clean, had all the amenities we needed, and was spacious for our family. Thank you for allowing us to bring our dogs. It was a great trip!
This was our fifth vacation to Cape San Blas, and our third in Barrier Dunes. The location is wonderful. The house had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation.
This little cottage is perfect. It’s like it’s advertisement and an easy walk to the beach. Gated community brings reassurance and cleanliness. Kids can ride their bikes. Great area to fish. Property management was available. We will be back!
We booked last minute and were so very lucky to find accommodations above and beyond any expectations. The place was fully stocked, clean, and in an unbeatable location. Would definitely stay again.
What a great little cottage in a nice community! We really enjoyed our time here, had everything we needed for our stay. Location was great for us because we brought our bikes and we were right outside the state park and the beginning of the 8.7 mile bike trail! The pools were nice although we spent our time at the beach. Loved being at the north end of the cape because it was peaceful, beautiful beaches all around you!
What’s not to love about this house! The decor, comfy beds, amazing laundry facilities and of course, the kitchen! We always cook when we’re on vacation, and your home made it easy to do so. Thank you for supplying such a great assortment of high quality pots, pans and utensils. It’s the best we’ve ever seen. Your house really felt like a home. We truly enjoyed our stay and we’d love to stay again in the future.
Barrier Dunes is a great location. The house is great but does need general maintence. One of the showers doesn't have a seal on the door so the water flows on the floor. Over all it's a beautiful home and great location.

Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
Needs deep clean
Pictures on VRBO are false. The furniture has been changed and the ceiling in the living area is unfinished with open vents. The kitchen cabinets are filthy with splattered food. Knives in knife rack had dried on food and cookware was not clean. Toaster oven full of baked on food. Coffee pot stained. Multiple roaches alive and dead .
Caretta Cottage was exactly what is listed! The cottage is beautiful! It had everything we needed and so much more! We met several nice, friendly people with their fur babies at Barrier Dunes. We loved the beach, caught several fish surf fishing, and our fur baby loved playing at the beach every day. The food was excellent in the nearby restaurants!! If you want the best ice cream treat go to Shoobies in Port St. Joe! Overall, our vacation was FANTASTIC!! We are looking forward to going back!!
We stayed at Barrier Dunes six times now and love the area. Beautiful beaches, great pools and tennis courts. This is the first time we stayed at Caretta Cottage and we really liked it - lots of room and laid out well. We did have concerns about the cleanliness - the window sills were dusty and full of dead bugs, there were some dead bugs on the floor. The bathroom (not master) had glass shelving that was very dusty and the shower glass door lower hinge area was black with dirt/mold. Kitchen cabinets had dried, sticky drippings on the front of them. Overall the cottage needs a major decluttering - lots of "stuff" jammed into storage areas. The beach chairs, etc. were just in a pile under the back porch and mostly unusable. We would definitely rent it again, but would like to see some cleaning, decluttering and maintenance done on the property.
We come to the Cape every year and this would have to be the best trip here yet. The house was great. The kitchen was well equipped, had high quality dishware, etc. The master bedroom suite was very comfortable. It was nicely decorated throughout the home. We loved that the house has a little side yard for dog potty breaks. We enjoyed all the wildlife, from turtles in the pond in the backyard to the tiny frogs you can spot around the porch, to the crane sauntering down the middle of the street early one morning! And there was no shortage in the water either, having seen dolphins at close range and even a manatee when on the paddle board. We appreciated having a laundry room directly off the kitchen and the kids enjoyed having their own space upstairs. The walk to the beach truly is only 5 minutes (I timed it!) though it seems like it would be longer. And a true bonus in my eyes is the boardwalk down to the beach is a ramp and not stairs! This was very convenient for hauling our cart of stuff. Overall everybody in our family loved this vacation and the house was a big part of that. We would 10 out of 10 rent this house again.
Overall the location was great. Very safe and friendly neighborhood. I chose this because I had my elderly grandmother who has mobility issues, but there weren’t many stairs to navigate. The photos listed are not quite what was in the house and that’s okay, just a little out of date. This house is quite roomy, but overall is quite old and in need of quite a bit of maintenance. The cleanliness was lacking quite a bit. There was pet hair everywhere on the floors, in the bed sheets, and in the dryer. While the kitchen was VERY WELL equipped and I appreciated that, we were constantly having to clean everything prior to use because appliances had been stuck in the cabinets without being cleaned. We also saw a roach in the kitchen, but I firmly believe it was a water roach so it didn’t deter us that much because there was only 1 the entire time we were there. This is a high humidity area so there was quite a bit of mold in the bathrooms. The ceiling in the living room also had unfinished work to it from where the popcorn ceiling had been removed, but there was still tape on the walls and unpainted. There is a lot of clutter in the house that could be cleaned out because it was just collecting dust. Overall for the price I paid it got the job done. The area is really nice and quiet. The best part was not having cell service truthfully. On a scale of 1/10, I’d give this rental a 7/10. We still had a great time and enjoyed it a lot.
Overall, a great spot to vacation for our family. The cottage was supplied with every kitchen utensil that one might need during your trip. The only negative were the couches; they need to be cleaned.
This was our second time staying at the Barrier Dunes.
We selected this home because we have a very elderly dog with arthritis and the stairs in the condos would have been too much for him to navigate.
This cottage was perfect and the steps were not too many nor too steep.
We did not want for anything! Very well supplied.
Thank you

We had a restful week at the cottage. It was well kept and very clean on arrival. About a 5 minute walk to the beach (with kids) and half that to the heated pool. Playground within 100 steps of the front porch. Neighborhood is perfect for families with small kids and was quiet. Would certainly book this home again.
