Casa Casado is a really beautiful and cozy vacation home in a great location. We loved our stay there and will book again next time we visit the area .
We had an amazing stay at this house, we really loved the location, which is super close to Guiones town and only a 15min walk to the beach. The area is very quiet and residential and we really appreciated the peace and tranquility. There was a construction site nearby (which is extremely common anywhere in Nosara/Guiones), but luckily and for some reason they were very quiet the entire week we were there. The concierge team was super helpful in terms of communication and we really were not missing anything. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because we did find it very expensive for the value. I know this is normal in peak season dates in Costa Rica (we stayed during xmas/the holidays), so any dates outside of this Im sure the price matches the value better. The only other thing, and this is just a small but important detail, there was no door between the upstairs bedroom and the bathroom which we found a bit weird and not ideal for a couple. But this is a small thing and not something that really mattered when you evaluate the experience overall. I would highly recommend this, and anytime outside of peak season Im sure this place is priced well and that you get a lot of value for your money.
This is our second time in the Nosara and the first time at this home. The location was perfect. It was a short 15 minute walk to the beach and five minute drive to the main street. The house was great for our family of four. The management company was very responsive when we had a few issues in the house and they sent someone to take care of it with a few hours. The only negative for us was that the pool got dirty very quickly. Part of it was that there was a lot of tree cover over the pool itself, but I think perhaps the filter wasn’t working properly because even smaller debris was not getting filtered out. We had to do a good 30 minute cleanup each time before we got in but other than that, it was perfect

Very comfortable private and peaceful spot.
I really liked this little casita. It felt very private because you are at the end of the road. Only 10-15 minute walk to the beach and town. I had everything I needed here and loved waking up to the howling monkey's and the birds were so fun to just sit and listen to. I would definitely recommend this place.

Modest with a Great Location
The property managers were very helpful in making sure my husband and I arrived to the location from our previous destination in the Southern Zone and recommended not taking the ferry over from Puntarenas due to the terrible road conditions and we were grateful for the advise given. The roads from Nicoya south are rough and dust is very thick especially during the tale end of the dry season, this was expected. This was not a factor at the house which was a welcomed relief. Not being able to flush ANY toilet paper was a surprise. The location borders one home next door, but the 3 other sides offer tremendous privacy yet being within a 10minute walk to to beach. Bring a camera for each sunset is spectacular. The property does have A/C in the main part of the house and with leaving the bedroom door open with the ceiling fan you can be cool enough to sleep. The small appliances could use a replacement since it takes a long time to make toast or brew coffee. The cutlery was dull and there is a minimalist array of adequate kitchen cooking supplies. Luckily we enjoyed going out to some nice restaurants in the area. La Luna is a must for sunset dining. And it was a nice break from our active meal cooking from home. There were quite a number of ants and spiders that shared our space despite our OCD cleaning ways. In fact the first day before we even had food prepared they came out in the hundreds. We don't consider bugs or ants a huge deal but for those who have an issue sharing their space with them you may want to request a better pest removal system. Luckily my husband and I put our flip flops on and would kill as many as possible before bed, and sweep them up in the am. Yes there is internet but given that it drops often don't plan on it being consistent. Also not a big deal we were on vacation and for the important transactions by internet we left plenty of time to make our connections. There is also a TV but we never got it functioning despite our efforts and know how. But even the DVD player unless you bring your own (there collection was either missing the actual DVD or many times it was damaged enough to either not start or not continue) or you could do an external connection with your laptop. Again not a huge deal since we enjoyed our days out and went to bed early. They advertise there being a hair dyer, there wasn't, not another big deal since my work hair had a nice break from the dryer the whole 2 weeks in Costa Rica. The dipping pool was great.

Nice cozy little house on a dead end road,we enjoyed it.
We had a great relaxing time at casa cansado. This is a nice ,simple and fonctional little retreat. A great advantage this house has is being on a dead end road...To all renters in Costa rica in the dry season..DUST is a Nightmare ..you will breath it,eat it and sleep with it...Not at Gato Cansado...No traffic goes by the house .We had our 5 month old baby and the quiet setting was a +..The howler monkeys will Howl ,thats what they do..Even at 4 am ,but thats the same within a 500 mile radius. Thanks to Virginie and Ivan(the managers) for there help. This house is a 10 minute walk to the beach and a 1 minute drive...Once again ,great quiet and DUST free location...We definitly recomand it...

Love love love this cute adorable Casita!
At the end of the road surrounded by jungle is private one bedroom Gato Cansado. The location is priceless. Walking distance to the beach, waking up to the local troop of howler monkeys and the sing song of the birds is a joy beyond words.
Loved the casita that keeps you drawn outside to the jungle rain or shine.

Awesome!
We loved out stay at Gato Cansado. Quaint and cozy, perfect for couple. The house had everything needed, including kitchen utensils and bathroom/bedroom linens. There's an extra couch/day bed. The A/C was a real treat....get it as it made sleeping that much better. It was so nice waking up to the howler monkeys every morning. I have never been to C. America before and literally thought it was the wind blowing! But no, it was the howler monkeys! The pool out front was also super sweet, especially after surfing, where a quick dip negated the need for a shower some of the time. The house sits at the top of a hill. We had a car, which was nice and convenient, but it's also very feasible to walk to Playa Guiones (maybe 15-20 min walk, less than 5 min drive). Just downhill from the house is a very nice yoga institute, which also offers walk in yoga classes with the most amazing view of jungle and ocean. Can't recommend Gato Cansado enough!

Just perfect!
We loved our week long stay here! It is a beautiful and comfortable little villa with just about everything you could need. We had a car rental, however many things, e.g. beach, yoga, store, and some restaurants, are also within walking distance. The house manager was great in taking care of things. The little dipping pool, patio, and outdoor speakers (bring your own ipod--this plugs into the audio cord, which is plugged into the bluetooth, or some other bluetooth enabled device) were so nice we enjoyed our own yoga practice daily. It was amazing and I would definitely stay here again if I was in Nosara!

Gato Cansado is a tiny bungalow at the top of a hill in K Section. It's a 15 minute walk to the surf. Small and cozy, this Casita was perfectly functional for my wife and me. If you are looking for luxury, this is not your place. If you have simple tastes you will love it. The fence around the property gives you privacy and the cottage is bordered on three sides by forest, so you will see some wildlife. You’ll have neighbors are close by on one side and you can hear their conversations as they sit by their pool. Gato Cansado’s small soaking pool is refreshing after walking up the steep hill from the beach. We did not contract for the AC, preferring to enjoy the Costa Rican heat after a long, cold New England winter. If you want to go out for dinner you will need some type of transportation.
Virginie, the property manager, was responsive and sweet and made our trip hassle free. We would have no hesitation renting Gato Cansado again.

Thank you so much for your review! I'm happy you had such a relaxing trip at Gato Cansado!
For future renters; I have found that most of our guests (of all ages!) do not require a vehicle and will walk or ride bikes everywhere. And yes, we are on a small hill, although the steepness is all relative to what you are used to. We have no problem riding our bikes up the hill after a long day of surfing or at night after dinner. Again, that is all dependent on what you are comfortable with. Pura Vida!

Excellent Costa Rica vacation
I loved this house in Nosara, it is the right size for a couple who wants to get away for a little romance. The house is charming and well appointed and in a quite private area. It is in walking distance to a beach and it is close to the town of Norara which is known for its surfing beaches. I particularly
Loved the beaches at sunset, the colors of the sky and water are amazing. We were able to find fabulous restaurants in the area. We will return again to this cute house for a private and romantic vacation.

Amazing and relaxing
This was by far the most relaxing and fun filled vacation we have had. Gato Cansado is perfectly positioned at the end of a cul de sac-privacy with the bonus of being able to easily walk to the beach or the Nosara Yoga Institute. The casita has a great little plunge pool in the yard and a breakfast table on the front porch. We had breakfast outside every morning and watched the monkeys play in the trees. Sweet little casita, very clean and well appointed. Our hosts were so accommodating and recommended activities and places to eat. Don't miss the Beach Dog cafe or the opportunity to zip line through the jungle. We look forward to returning again to this little oasis.

The most amazing vacation ever!
This was an amazing vacation! My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks for our honeymoon, and loved every minute of it! The house is exactly as the pictures show it, so it is EXCEPTIONALLY nice. Initially we planned on not purchasing the AC for the 2 weeks we were there, but after the first day, we decided it was worth it (very hot and humid). We spent a lot of time in the pool and on the beach while we were here.
Agnes, the property manager, was VERY helpful. When we needed advice on places to eat and what activities to do, she made several recommendations, and even went so far as to set up the tours for us. While here, we did the monkey quad ATV tour, which was awesome! We also just rented an ATV from them for a day and toured much of Nosara and neighboring towns ourselves. As long as you follow the road signs and generally stay on main roads, you wont get lost! This is a great recommendation if you want to get to see some amazing sights in Nosara. It includes a short snorkel trip at an awesome beach that made the trip that much better. We also did the Miss Sky Canopy Tour zip lining, which is also a must for the trip!
The beach and a couple of small cafes are within walking distance of the house, but they are anywhere between a 15 and 30 minute walk. We rented an ATV for a day, and found that it was very convenient to have. I would recommend renting a car, ATV or bike while you are here, but its not a necessity. I would advise stopping at the market when you first arrive in Nosara if you dont plan on eating out for every meal. We ended up having to make a couple of trips, and each time we went we had to take a taxi (which is $30 total). We also had to take a taxi any time we went on a tour, which was also $30 total.
We also rented a surf board for a day, and instead of investing in surf lessons just looked up tips for learning to surf and taught ourselves. People that are already surfing are always more than willing to give you advice as well.
US currency is accepted, but only use bills that are $20 and smaller. Most of the places (such as ATV tours, zip lines and several cafes) only accept cash, and they will give you your change in Costa Rican Currency. There is an ATM in Nosara, but I would recommend just bringing plenty of cash with a credit card as a back up plan. There is a safe in the house that is bolted to the wall with a lock on it to keep valuables in.
There is wifi, a TV and telephone in the house if you need them. This place is amazing!

Great place- private, clean and cute!
We had a great time at Gato Cansado! The place is close enough to amenities and the beach, but far enough up the road to be private. We walked to the Nosara Yoga Institute and the beach from the house. The pool is great and the house is well stocked. Perfect for a couple! We enjoyed lounging in the pool and hanging on the front patio. Bring along CDs or some music to use the great outdoor speakers. Awesome place!

We loved Gato Cansado!
We wanted a private location that was close to the beach, but more private than a resort or hotel. Gato Cansado gave us that feel. We made many of our breakfasts at home (GC), some dinners, and while the kitchen tools are definitely used often, we were able to pump out some tasty food!
Sidenote: Go to the M/W/F morning vegetable truck outside of Robin's for fresh & CHEAP produce.
Back to the casita: The locks were secure, there was a safe, linens, towels, a local phone & WIFI are provided.
The pool temperature was perfect while we were there and it was SO great to be able to cool off without worrying about other people.
There were also quite a few services provided: pool maintenance person comes once a week to clean the pool (the net is left at the house also so you can clean too). Our stay was 10 days long, so the house cleaner came on Saturday to clean; she did dishes, laundry, floors, etc. It was great!
The property management company was available to answer questions and send any help we needed.
A/C: We paid the extra fee to make AC available, however, it is really common for the AC unit to trip the breaker. After that happened to us two times in a row, we decided to not use the AC at all. With the windows having glass shutters instead of window panes, it would have been pointless to 'cool' the house anyway. My advice: don't buy AC and drink cold cocktails during the hottest part of the day to cool you down. We truly did not need AC.
Most favorite thing
Front porch and pool
Least favorite thing
The house IS on top of a hill and we had not considered the effect a hill would have on our decision to ride bicycles for transport. We ended up walking our bikes up the hill every time we came home. I would still stay at Gato Cansado again, and would rent bicycles again, but it would be a luxury to have a golf cart or ATV instead.
Loved Gato Cansado. We were very happy with our choice and all the amenities!

Absolutely the perfect little house for a couple wanting privacy and everything you need to feel at home. Fully equiped kitchen, washer and dryer, little pool. Totally private at the top of the road, neighbors on one side only and the rest is just open jungle with many visitors such as howler monkeys and even cows. The only thing missing was a BBQ. Nosara is a great place to kick back and relax, renting an ATV is absolutely a must to explore the nearby towns. Our rental 4x4 was fine for getting there but the roads are so bumpy we just parked it and rented a jungle buggy and it changed our whole experience, not only is it way more fun and comfortable you get places twice as fast. Go south to Samara for cute little town with lots of shopping and go north for secluded beaches and amazing scenery. We did the miss sky zipline and it was amazing. There is a pizzeria near Gato Cansado that is incredible for those nights you dont feel like cooking. This experience was far better than any hotel and if we are ever in Nosara again it will be for the Turtle nesting and we will deffinately stay here again.

My husband and I ended up only staying here for one night! Tory the owner e-mailed us the night before we left for our trip, to tell us that their was construction going on and asked if we wanted to stay somewhere else. It was too late for us to find something. But once we got their it was AWFUl! The construction is RIGHT next door, and they started sawing and hammering at 6am. And then the house itself was filled with bugs, and my husband ended up killing a scorpion in the kitchen too! We e-mailed the owner, and requested our money back for the 2 nights we didn't stay, and she would only refund one night! The construction is not even close to being finished, so I would not recommend staying here. Its not a safe area either!

Response from VrboOwner on 24 Mar 2020
The lot next to Gato Cansado has been under various stages of construction in 2011. I was assured it would be completed by November 2011, prior to Amanda’s stay. We stayed at Gato Cansado for the 10 days previous to their visit and experienced the construction noise. It was an inconvenience and we immediately notified them so they could seek other accommodations. We provided full disclosure as soon as we knew its status and the extent of noise. We offered to let them out of their rental contract and refund the full amount. Those chose to stay, so splitting the difference was a compromise. The construction of the house is done and the remaining activity is the woodworkers making the furniture, which should be completed in January 2012.
As mentioned, we were at Gato Cansado right before their visit and the house is in excellent shape. Nosara is in the tropics and there are bugs. However, my husband and I have traveled all over the world and Nosara is far less “buggy” than many other places we visit. Simply keeping the screen door closed will prevent them from entering the house.
As for the xenophobic comment about the area not being safe, the people we have met in Nosara and Costa Rica are some of the friendliest and warm-hearted in all of Central and South America. We very much enjoyed talking with the carpenters working next door and all of the locals. They are always waving and smiling at us when we go by- they even showed us around the house that was being built. We have never had any bad experiences in all of Costa Rica.
It is unfortunate that this couple did not have a good time in Costa Rica and should maybe choose and alternate destination for their next vacation.

Great pied-a-terre in Nosara!
Located on a hiltop, this one-bedroom hideaway is equiditant and a short walk from Playa Guiones and the Nosara Yoga Institute. Featuring a sparkling dipping pool and a lovely patio for breakfast and watching sunsets, the house has a washer-dryer, modern bathroom, and air conditioning if you need it. During our late April stay we found the ceiling fans to provide enough cooling. Kim, the on-site property manager, could not have been more accommodating, orienting us on the windy roads of Guiones, and assisting with a grocery store stop. While walking everywhere is a possibility, we rented a cute yellow Honda ATV, and strapped on our yoga mats for trips to the Yoga Institute and everywhere else. Renting a car is also a possibility, but bikes or a 4-wheeler seemed more fun for around town. The town has some 12-15 good restaurants, so while cooking in is a possibility, we limited that to breakfasts, and sampled the local venues for dinner. Nosara and the Guiones beach area have bumpy gravel roads, sometimes dusty, and this includes the road into the aarea from Nicoya. So we opted to fly in with Nature Air from San Jose. It was a wonderful flight with breathtaking scenery. The beach is super-clean, full of surfing activity, and backed by a 200-meter conservation area. This means that there are no beach joints for hanging out, and the bars and cafes are centered more around the adjacent village. So it has a different feel from most beaches, which have development right up to the tide line. (There are beachside hangouts on nearby Playa Pelada, if you need to experience someting less pristine.) So, all in all, we loved our time in Nosara and bid a fond farewell as we moved on to the Arenal Volcano and the interior rainforest.

Great Vacation Spot!
I stayed at Gato Cansado in spring and the weather was great. We could watch the monkeys and birds right from the porch and the pool was perfect for cooling off in the afternoons. The house was perfect size with all the amenities, very clean and new feeling. Its just a short walk or bike ride to the beach and cute little town. The beaches are beautiful! Shallow water and perfect waves for learning to surf or playing in with kids. I would highly recommend Gato Cansado!
