Owner's Home...Modern A/C Cabin w/King Sized Bed
Our Cabin on the Property of our The Toucan Stay Inn (but 3 can't)...(a/k/a 'TSI')
The 'Owner's Cabin' is not always Rentable, but the owner lives in the USA and enjoys traveling. It is a separate building from the actual Toucan Stay Inn (TSI) Our "Petite To Be in a Garden by the Sea". It is Very Private, Gated and Surrounded with colorful 10 foot tall Hibiscus hedges and 8' Wooden Gates. Besides being on a gorgeous tropical setting, filled with flowers, bushes and Coconut Palms, the TSI is proud to be on the "BeachSide"…just 3 lots from the Caribbean Sea. Unlike most of our competition, we have Air Conditioning, Screened window and large Screened Patio,, WI-FI and Satellite TV. As of matter of fact, we have A/C in all the Inn's accommodations.
The Owner's Cabin has Cathedral Ceilings, a variety of Local Wood Accents and Furniture, a Custom Made California King Sized Bed, True Quality Bedding (real mattresses) and Linens, a Living Room area, Dining Table, Fully Equipped Kitchen, Private Bathroom, Satellite TV/Stereo DVD, Flat Screened TV, Screened in Patio with Table and Chairs, 2 hammocks and a massage table. (see photos)
The Toucan Stay Inn (TSI) is merely steps away from Playa Punta Uva... rated one of the 'Top 10 Natural Beaches in the World' (says Outsider Magazine). Punta means 'Point' there are two sides to it. Each side is completely different. Our side is called the 'family beach' has been awarded a BLUE FLAG for it's cleanliness and safety. The other side is completely different, and my wife and I love to hang hammocks among the palm trees, bring a cooler with lunch and drinks, books and snorkeling spend the day. Muy Tranquilo!!! (Very Tranquil!!!)
The Toucan Stay Inn is conveniently located within a 'stone's throw' of a grocery store, a beach bar/restaurant, and the Punta Uva Dive as a matter of fact, Punta Uva River...a very sleepy river that meets the Caribbean. Kayaks are rented nearby for your convenience.
FREE WiFi is available, along with Free use of Snorkeling equipment, Boogie Boards, Travel Beach Hommocks and Beach Towels, we are happy to offer concierge services for reservations and suggestions for adventures, tours and our list of 'preferred' dining experiences.
Here are some of the popular things our guests enjoy:
Horseback Riding on the Beach, Scuba Diving, Canopy Tours (zip line), White Water Rafting, Snorkeling, Kayaking, Hiking both the Gondoca-Manzanillo Refuge and the Cahuita National Park, Chocolate Tours, Bri Bri Indian Reservation, Waterfalls, the famous Jaguar Wildlife Rescue Center, etc. etc. Several of the tours will pick you up and drop you off right at our doorstep.
I'm not sure if the Garden of Eden was much better, but instead of apples and serpents, we have coconuts, papayas, bananas and an occasional sloth and toucan.
Although the 'Owner's Cabin' has a fully equipped kitchen, Breakfast can be purchased and served on the Inn's Garden Terrace (with advanced notice)
Garden Terrace and the Garden Pavilion are places where our guests can relax, play cards, board games, or just read or leisurely nap in one of our several terrace hammocks or Adirondack Chairs. We have a small book and DVD library for your use. Wi Fi is Free. And, we have a house computer for you to check you emails.

Within a few miles (or less) in either direction, you can find authentic assortment of Caribbean, Argentinean, Middle Eastern, Italian, Thai, Sushi, Mexican and 'Tico' (Costa Rican) menus. We have our favorites that we will share with you.

Why Jon Stierwalt (owner) chose Punta Uva
In my eyes, The Garden of Eden couldn't have been much better. The natural beauty of not just my property, but the entire area is overwhelming to me. On the property we have limes, coconuts, pipas, guanabana, bananas and other fruits with some incredible flowering plants. The place is surrounded by hibiscus 3 sets of wooden entry gates. Two one bedroom air conditioned suites are also available. The variety of SOME OF THE BEST FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN is incredible, with several of them within walking distance and others within a no further than 5 miles on the same main road. Sushi, Thai, Italian, French, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, Argentinian, and of course, Tico (local) food are all offered. I keep a book listing TSI's recommended restaurants, along with menus. A convenience store (PULPERIA) is located within 50 feet of our front door. Now that's convenient! The owners, Saskia and Connie speaks German, English and Spanish. They are both great people who will fix you up with beer, wine, booze and your grocery needs.

Nice location and comfortable house.
Enjoyed the cabin and location! Caretakers were nice and helpful. Little things would have helped a lot. Dishcloth and dish soap, extra towels, trash bags, and pepper. Smell very strongly of big pesticides. Table leans so badly you couldn’t put food or coffee cup on it. Easy fixes, just details not attended to.
Thank you for your review. As you know, I am the owner, and live in Florida.
There is nothing better than to read your review and know that you enjoyed my cabin, and appreciate our location being on beach side, just a short walk to the beach.
It is also nice to read that you thought my managers were nice and helpful. I was a bit surprised to find out that you were missing things like dish soap, towels, trash bags and pepper. With this being High Season and approaching Easter Week, we have been full every single day since before Christmas. When there is only one day between guests for the accommodations to be cleaned, the bedding replaced, along with other essentials, sometimes the simplest things are forgotten. For that I apologize. The items you mentioned... dish soap, towels, trash bags and pepper were probably just that...forgotten. This surely could have been a "simple fix"... all you had to do is mention it to my managers. I am sure they will be embarrassed to find out that you never had these items during your stay. Getting a 3 star review for this reason is disappointing to say the least, but it will surely help us to make sure this never happens again.
Wishing you a Happy Easter and a big Pura Vida!

Toucan Stay Inn
Excellent Vacation at the Owner' Cabin at Toucan Inn Stay
We stayed for 2 weeks (March 2017) at the Owner’s Cabin at the Toucan Stay Inn. We found the place very relaxing and enjoyable. We spent every night falling asleep in the hammock on the screened porch listening to the rain and the howling monkeys. We would wake to the birds singing. The facilities and grounds were very clean and nicely decorated/landscaped. We spent time lounging in their outdoor hammocks enjoying the scenery. We were minutes to the beach where it was not heavily populated.
Our goal during our stay was to do as much and see as much as we possible could. The owners, Jon and Mabel, where there staying at the Inn during our vacation. They hooked us up with a local fisherman, where we caught Tuna, Red Snapper, and a third species. They set us up on a zip-line adventure. They picked us up, took us to the jungle where we zipped 24 platforms and returned us home. They hooked us up with Junior, a local guide, who took us for the day to see 2 waterfalls (fabulous!) and to the Reservation for a lesson in local fruits, trees, and nuts; each providing medicinal purposes. They gave us directions to some local hiking with an extremely beautiful view of the ocean. We did a hike through a National Park, way cool 8.5 kilometers of platforms through the jungle. They recommended a particular local Chocolate Farm, spectacular. They suggested several places to eat. We so enjoyed all but one place. The flavor, presentation, and atmosphere were incredible for being in such a remote area. Several equivalent to a 5 star restaurant here in the states, but less than half the cost. Mabel made us a delicious mango pancake breakfast. Next door, Bamboocha’ s which was not only delicious, but the back ground and hospitality of the owners was amazing.
We found the locals to be friendly and helpful especially with the language barrier. We speak very little to no Spanish, but were able to find someone that spoke English or be able to find a way to communicate what it is that we wanted or needed.
Jon and Mabel took us to a local friend’s house where we spent several hours visiting. It was a pleasure to meet them and they were so hospitable serving us with a fresh blended fruit drink and scrumptious brownies with coconut toppings fresh from a local chocolate farm.
We truly enjoyed our stay, as well as the pleasure of meeting Jon and Mabel. They made sure our vacation was exactly what we were hoping for. We look forward to returning again.
Thank You So Much for this lovely review. As I expressed to you in an early correspondence, our goal is to wish all of our guests safe travel, decent weather and fond memories. I don't want to interfere with people who "Vant to be alone"...but if they are open for recommendations of places to go, things to see and our list of favorite restaurants...consider me that "friend or uncle you have in Costa Rica" who knows a bit more than a guide book writer who spent a few days in the area.
Sorry about that one restaurant that I recommended that didn't cook your steak the way you like it. But, I'm happy to know that your husband enjoyed his shrimp dish. OK...so, I only batted 500 on that one.
It is such a pleasure to have guests who want to know more about the culture, visit unique places that might not be in the guide books, do some adventures, and tours. Mabel and I were thrilled that you relaxed in our Cabin's screened in patio, slept in our garden pavilion's hammocks, but took advantage of the weather, and kept experiencing so much of what our property and area has to offer. Come to think of it...you even used the BBQ grill to cook that fish you caught.
By the way, as soon as you left, the sea turn flat as Mabel's pancakes, and the snorkeling was great. Oh, and I will send you a photo of the 6 foot Iguana that visited our property, within an hour of your departure.
Please do return again, and I promise that the acquaintances you made on this trip will remember you when you return. That's just the way it is here. Punta Uva is a special place, as you found out.
Jon and Mabel
Most Enjoyable. Thank you.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks at the Toucan Inn. Mike was there to meet us and go over all of the details about our accommodations and gave us all the information about our immediate area. Beach. Store. Restaurant. Ect. The cabin was big and bright. The bed very comfortable. It was clean. The property was lovely, gated and private even though we were near the beach road. The beach was a two minute walk. The location to surrounding villages was central to all. We had the pleasure of meeting Jon, the owner of Toucan Inn. He shared with us many stories about the history of this beautiful area of Punta Uva. We would certainly return to Toucan Inn without hesitation. Thank you Mike and Jon for making our first trip to Costa Rica a most memorable adventure. Pura Vida. Deb and Lew.
Hola Deb and Lew!!! Thank you so much for your lovely review.
We hope you made it home, safe and sound.
Prior to my arrival in CR, when I spoke to Mike, he told me that you guys were "GREAT!" and now that we have spent some time together, I totally agree with him. I'd give you both 4 STARS (lol). I so enjoyed the time we spent together, and do hope you return soon.
Five nights was not enough!!!
This is what vacations are supposed to be like. After a superb time hiking around volcanos and kayaking down gorgeous rivers through the rainforest my wife and I spent five glorious nights at Toucan Stay Inn in the Owner's Cabin. It was like having our own little home away from home. The grounds consist of beautiful tropical gardens hiding behind a secure fence and gates, and it's just a very short walk down the road to the beach. The Owner's Cabin is a large one room, combo kitchen, living room, bedroom, with a full bathroom and a large screened porch. There is plenty of hot water. After a great night's sleep in the king size bed (some nights with the A/C, some nights listening to the rain) we'd have coffee, take a long walk on the beach, come back and make breakfast, then grab the beach towels, books, etc. and head back to the beach. We picked up a couple inexpensive low to the ground beach chairs at Walmart in San Jose earlier in out trip and they were perfect for the beach. There are hammocks to use to sling between trees if you prefer. If you want a beer or a cocktail, burger, or pizza, there is a beach bar right there. Better yet wait for one of the local women to come along with hot homemade chicken or veggie empanadas. After a day of total relaxation we'd venture out to one of the many many local restaurants nearby for dinner and then back to our cabin. Night life is available if that's your scene but we prefer our solitude. After seeing many of the other accommodations in the area we could not have been happier with our choice. Mike the grounds manager will soon become a welcome friend and give good advice on local attractions and activities. A couple things we did not know but were not a problem. You have to buy your own drinking/cooking water but there is a little grocery store across the road. $5 for 5 gallons almost got us through our five nights. Also, there is no housekeeping so you can leave your bed unmade just like at home. There is not a house safe but one didn't seem necessary. The wifi worked great, there is no house computer, if you want to ride a bike you'll need to rent one nearby, and breakfast is not included. Some travel sites have not been updated with that current information. Mike informs us we would not have enjoyed his cooking anyway! Oh, the owner Jon, is always reachable by phone and is also a trove of helpful information. Although not entirely necessary since there are taxis, I would recommend a car for greatest convenien
Thank you John and Kathy for your wonderful words. Responding to the few negatives is something we hate to do, but must be stated. When I live there, I was known for my breakfasts...and we were called a B&B...since Mike took over the cooking...we had to change our name to just an INN. (lol) As for the bikes...well living so close to the ocean destroys metal BIG TIME...and we were spending more time repairing and replacing...so we left that to the folks who Just Rent Bikes for a living...several blocks away.
I must say, that it is wonderful to read how open you both were to adventure (white water rafting), and yet, enjoying the nature within our property, the beach surroundings...and truly appreciating our "little slice of paradise" is all we can ask for. The very few guests that expect to be able to "hail a cab" in Punta Uva are the types that you can't please no matter what. Thank you for being you.
Might I suggest, that the next time...bring two other couples and have the entire property to yourselves. What Fun!!!
PURA VIDA...and thank you again for choosing the Toucan Stay Inn's Owner's Cabin
our 2016 vacation
This was a nice place it was clean and had lots of hot water. That being said this was said to be a bed and breakfast we never saw the breakfast the whole two weeks we were there. The roof leaked on our bed but not to much. We told Mike about it and he said that he knew about that. The beach was really nice and the people as always were great. Mike the manager was nice and told us about all the things to do and where to eat. Jon the owner was very helpful in getting us to the place and answered all the questions I had which were a lot.
Hi There! Beach Girl,
Thank you for your review.
I am so sorry to hear that there was a leak over your bed...but that it didn't interfere with you stay. Thank Goodness! As you can see by our other reviews, this is something that has never happened, and surely was been taken care of immediately.
We are happy that you mentioned that you enjoyed our location, our comfortable bed and clean room. Being close to the beach for a "Beach Girl", I'm sure, is important.
I am delighted to hear that Mike's (our manager) recommendation were helpful. And, it was nice of you mention that our communications prior to your arrival were appreciated.
Of course, we do hope you return, and I promise that I will make a special effort to make up for the unfortunate "leak" that you had to deal with.
We realize that vacations are too infrequent for most folks. So, we strive to help assist in making them unforgettable...but not with a leak. lol
Pura Vida, Beach Girl...Pura Vida!
My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary in Costa Rica and stayed at the Toucan stay inn for 6 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The unit was very clean and cheerful. The king size bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure and never ran out of hot water. The grounds were lovely, full of flowers, and very well maintained. The manager, Mike, and owner, Jon, were both very friendly and had lots of good recommendations. It was a very short walk to the beautiful beach which was never crowded. There are a few very good restaurants a short walk away.
I would highly recommend the Toucan Stay Inn!
Play Punta Uva (our beach) is just a short walk away (actually only 3 lots away). Within 3 miles of us is the Famous Jaguar Rescue Center, Canopy tours(zip line tours), horse back riding, Iguana Sanctuary, Yoga, Surf Lessons etc. I REPEAT...we are only 600 feet way from swimming, kayaking and snorkeling, which are all available at our Beach..."rated in TOP TEN NATURAL BEACHES IN THE WORLD" by Outside Magazine and Travel and Leisure. Our 'Owners Cabin" sits is next to our Toucan Stay Inn. Our manager at the Inn will be happy to assist you with recommendations for restaurants, private beaches, tours, etc. Our little "paradise" sits between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. Both are places that you should visit. Each with their own Caribbean "vibe".
